No one talked the refs into favouring us in the first half .... the second half seems a different story tho

Ha! I would have put money on the refs evening out the penalties in the second half if I had the taste to gamble.

I understand this but why should it be so pronounced in one half and not the next? The players don't run into the sheds after a great first half then become the exact opposite in the second half. It's as if a team has to be penalised in the second half for having a good first half, as far as penalties are concerned.

As I mentioned before, i reckon it all comes down to completion rate and a good kicking game. What came first in the second half the Souths penalties/completing sets or us not controlling the ball.

For example I think after going to 20 to 6 after the penalty goal we drop the ball ib the following set, Souths get good field position and we are under pressure in the ruck potentially giving away penalties.

Did BA make Moses kick out of the full? Peni do a shit offload? MK push a pass (as all was mentioned by previously by posters)? Norman lay in ruck?

We looked small and unfit in comparison to Souths. When we had a lot of possession we looked rigidly structured (like an old man with a lower back problem). Only when Hayne came inside and just played what was in front off him did we look threatening. \
Defensively we looked clueless on the outside and the Rabbitohs could have scored more due to overlaps. Like last time we played Souths the defensive alignment looked like the players were trying to work it all out on the field.

I reckon most teams have 2 guys on top 17 money in reserves ... salaries of fringe players are probably all pretty similar .... so maybe even 3 or more

I'm guessing.Evans is on $300k minimum. There can't be too many blokes on that in the Reserves for many clubs.

Fair enough. However, I've seen far too many of tonight's game examples to put it all down to coincidence. There is a definite 'even up of the penalties' during the course of any game IMO.

Yeah im not gonna get into a discussion over him - he's been a dud so far

But yeah there are some guys on that sort of coin playing reserves ... farah was until he switch, austin spent a bit of time in reserves ... hastings was lol .... brisbane probably have their entire reserve grade team on 300k tpas

Evans presumably had a great game in the 2s last week so possibly his fitness/desire is now at a required level. Our reaction to that is let him have a week off. Im obviously missing something. Gower tried hard but was ineffective tonight and has been the last few times ive seen him. Im not saying Evans had to play 1s but to give him a week off? Its not as if we are heading for the GF. Its also doubtful Gower will be with us next season.

Yeah I think some refs, ref on perception like “shit the bottom side is leading better even up”.

It’s also been mentioned refs ask for stats during games like the penalty count, that should never been given as it changes the focus of the ref.

I reckon the penalty counts tend to even out because all the teams play exactly the same way with the same tactics and are really coached by the same guy...Bellamy or lesser versions of Bellamy (such as Arthur).

I really don't think it's where a team sits on the ladder. I'm going to look into this further when I have the time.

Brisbane squad in reality is quite small. They've got hardly any NRL experience outside of their Top 17.
