Rd23: Parra v Bulldogs GAME DAY THREAD @ Commbank 20/8/22

Big crowd again 26k yesterday despite a few empty seats.

It's interesting though how much better our team plays when we pack out Commbank.

We have had 8 games there since 2019 where we have had at least 25k attendance for a match.

Out of those 8 games we have won 7 of those games with the scoreline sitting at 300-95.

So we average 37.5 points a game and only conceded 12 when we reach thay minimum 25k for a home game.

It's inflated a bit by the Tigers opening day and the Broncos semi final demolitions.

But it shows how much a different side we are when we pack out the joint and the stadium is pumping like a cauldron and the team feeds off it.

Advice if you can attend the Melbourne game try and get to it even on a Thursday night especially if it's to get into the 4.

It's a hard sell and obviously won't be as many away fans.

But we have 35k members we should be aiming for around that 25k crowd most home games weather permitting

Souths are exceptional when they are on song. I don’t think it’s that easy.
I don't think so. It's whether they put effort in training to practice it.

Though I do agree that we need to fix our defense first.

Hopefully barrett can bring that. My only issue is that joey said he worked with the spine

Ba said baz will work with the halves.

That's no good if the support and decoy don't know what line to run.

And that's where We have a disconnect

All the panfers are on the same page. We are not. We are like soo 1.the forwards didn't really know what the others were doing so jnr and RCG were in effective

I watch the replays when the other teams score out wide and its all the decoys

Panfers uses kikau alot as a decoy but he actually also has another decoy near him and sometimes in an I formation. So our centre and half don't know who to take and they are held in the middle

Souths uses decoys too and the same thing happens. Johnston speed also helps but we have sivos power and close to the line he'll most likely score

Now that the opposition's know about lane, we have to get him to run lines as a decoy with oppa as another decoy which leave sivo 1 on 1 or with his opposition winger a little bit in field

In defense pou and the others are right. Pappa has to put effort across to cover so that the centre doesn't get held in field. That's why I prefer marata on the edge. He seems to cover laterally better and he sticks. Will also has to trust Moses and not stick to him so much in defense. Will doesn't have to speed to chase

Gutho has to come across to help Moses if he struggles instead of will sticking so close to him. So then the winger and centre doesn't get flanked

It's better now that simonssen is not there and always coming in

Fairy sure BA said Baz would own the Attack 100% so why would he not also work with the whole team not just the halves?

I wonder if we get a bit fixated with X is the attack coach and Y is the defense coach and Z is the halves coach.

I realise people who are part time consultant types might be very specialised and have limited time, so are narrow focused .... and maybe some assistants have their strengths ... but i would have imagined the entire coaching staff would have input to the coaching as a whole.

I thought Drown started the game a bit off yesterday. Droppsies and some dumb shit.

I think he switched on after he threw that shit pass which gave the dogs possession for their try.

And once on was f**king awesome. I reckon he is legitimately the best defensive half in the NRL. And his attack is constantly improving. The pass to Sivo was as sweet as anything more highly rated merkins have done over the years.

Rheed’s passing was crisp yesterday. Well I’m front of the receiver, putting us on the front foot each time. Hopefully we execute just as well over the next two weeks.

Ironically our wing stocks look stacked next season.

Russel gains another year and if the kid is ready its 2023 I would imagine.

Dunster will be back. No idea how he recovers but SIVO come back well. Haze would of had 13mths before season kicks off. I assume he'd be running now or shortly.

Cini - If we keep him

Superman Simmonson - He isnt great but not horrible. From rnds 6-12 he actualy looked quite good. Then dropped off.

All 4 above could handle the wing at NRL level I reckon. Russel probably the most upside.

What we do need is a centre. Id rather not put Waqa back there.
Fenning or Laizou may get a shot.

I expect Naiduki to to let go. Unsjre about Komalafe.

I haven't seen a cut out pass that good since Tim Smith in 2005.

Pass to Sivo was brilliant. His defence is excellent. His only flaw is his inconsistency, he can go missing. Apart from that dumb pass and that dropped ball he had a blinder. That soccer kick for that try screams natural

Yesterday I thought the defence was great, I know the Dogs didnt offer too much but the Eels looked aggressive at times and made the Dogs panic a bit and whenever there was an overlap, the Eels scrambled well in defense, that play where Allen was heading for the line Sivo stayed on the outside the cover came across, great stuff.

And how good is it to have Moses back. Hopefully yesterday's game was a start of a winning streak.
