Well Maka and Rodwell have proved they are first grade quality players now. Hollis hasn't.
Coming through the grades, Sam Hughes was the forward who was the one to watch and was regarded as more likely to make it than Hollis. No one knows the back story to his removal from the playing group, guess judgement can be made if and when the real story is known.

Unfortunate, as physically he was the one to watch.

I didn't watch a lot. From what I saw.

Cartwright played silly.

Arthur's made some great tackles.
Stones defense is great. If only he ran better.
Makatoa is bog average. Big motor but I don't see the love. Huge plodder with a big heart.
Perhaps has a nice step
Hayze Perhaps goes alright. Agreed on Makatoa. It's obvious why it took him so long to debut. He is a reserve grader. High involvement is an asset is you're elite but otherwise just means you're taking carries from more effective runners. If we needed long minutes from him in defence (and we obviously did) he would've stayed effective for longer with fewer carries. Give them to Ferguson and Lane instead. Opacic's hit ups are quite good too.

JFH - 14 runs for 84 metres - 33 post contact metres
Considering how well the rest of the Panthers forwards went against our fatigued and lightweight pack, JFH was weak as piss.

Pou table:

PlayerPCM per carry
Yeo5.38 (but boosted by a linebreak)
Leota5.15
Kikau5.00
Rodwell3.75
Cartwright3.63
Martin3.55
Capewell3.33
Makatoa2.95
Kaufusi2.56
Pangai2.38
Fisher-Harris2.36
Stone2.33
Sorensen2.17
Lane2.13
Hipgrave2.00

Watching penrith last night. There ability to get 3 in a tackle regularly and basically gang tackle the opposition coming off their own try line and drag them back is impressive.

There forward pack looks very tall and strong.
It's their mobility that is their strength. They were bog average prior to the Covid break and the rule changes demanded by the TV providers. Suddenly they became world beaters.

However, if the opposition is allowed to slow the game the Panthers forwards can't get momentum. Their only big merkin plays out wide, which is why they signed TPJ.

On the refereeing, i know we will have a largely different team when the time comes but if (and i mean big IF) we win next week, the week after we are going to have to beat the referee anyways.

The referees tend to let the teams that they perceive to be the better team do whatever they want in the ruck, especially in big games, they generally have a pre conceived winner (just like last night) so they will referee accordingly.

Obviously we were no chance last night and the scoreline probably flattered us in the end but as has been mentioned, we got nothing at all.

So for me, the only chance we have in the finals it to play with last weeks desperation and commitment to each other to beat the opposition and the refs because they will let the top 4 do whatever they want in the ruck.

Kind of like in 2009, after such a shit 2008 wrestle fest and boring as batshit footy they changed some interpretations of the ruck and they were pretty good with it up until the GF, then they reverted to ensure that the Storm could use their grubbiest of grubby tactics for victory, and we still got closer than they would have ever liked!!

Anyways, i expect the Storm to up their grubby tactics from next week and they will be hard to beat.

Any dubious call ch 9 doesn't do a replay. It is annoying.

Hasn't been seen since he played for Turkey on Anzac Day.

Thought JA did ok, in pretty trying circumstances. It wasn’t like the middles was give him much to work. And it was against the panthers….

Defended ok and was pretty willing to run the ball (made more metres/runs then lussick/Smith combined).

obviously nothing brilliant but considering his experience and the circumstances it was a fair effort
