People overestimate the risk in going for the short dropout. The biggest risk is you don't go 10 and give away a penalty, but that doesn't apply when the opposition is chasing a big total. As for territory they're usually back in the twenty on the second or third anyway, and you've saved yourself running out to meet them and have a set defensive line. This is why we are seeing the short dropout more and more.

Well in a waybyes but a short drop out if you dont get ball means they have 4 shots at you. Being you tackle them in the first kick. A standard drop out means they need 3 runs together to your 10. They get 2 shots at you or 3 at best. So it's a difference for sure.

And if you get the ball back they don't get any shots at all. The odds almost always favour the short dropout.

I prefer the short drop out

What we did with the Bronx was perfect

I think guth changed it this week coz ba knew Bellamy would do his homework and so he kicked it down the middle instead.

The storm didn't give lane any freedom

Most teams can attack well from 30m out. A long dropout has you within 30m after 1 or 2 tackles .... its not that much of a disadvantage.

Having said that, i reckon we should have gone long late in the game .... sprung a surprise long dropout

Its a good tactic as the opposition are usually setup all across the field for the long drop out so it takes them2-3 plays to get set when there is a short drop out. Plus the defense is already on the line so no long kick chase.

Gutho has generally gotten the short drop out in the right spot for our chasers, I'd just like to see a range of drop outs. I'd like to see short ones along the ground, short high ones to Sivo, short high ones to Lane, long ones. The short drop out works the best when the opposition don't know it's coming.

Also for the final 2 kick-offs NAS was standing in the first line but rather than standing on the 40m line he was 35m out and about 20 in from the sideline. We needed to play heads up footy there and drill it towards the sideline
