And there’s also the possibility of the opposition knocking on. It’s a good tactic.

It's a good suprise tactic. Doing it everytime now. Sides are training for its and non come off against Storm. Felt like 0/3.
A good long.drop out and you can stop then more then 35 out. I'd mix it up. Some long and some short. But if had Burton I'd probably go long most times.

I prefer the short drop out

What we did with the Bronx was perfect

I think guth changed it this week coz ba knew Bellamy would do his homework and so he kicked it down the middle instead.

The storm didn't give lane any freedom
I reckon they were miss kicks.

People overestimate the risk in going for the short dropout. The biggest risk is you don't go 10 and give away a penalty, but that doesn't apply when the opposition is chasing a big total. As for territory they're usually back in the twenty on the second or third anyway, and you've saved yourself running out to meet them and have a set defensive line. This is why we are seeing the short dropout more and more.
Agree I can’t believe the amount of whinging about the short dropouts

You give yourself a chance at getting ball back and give up only problby one tackles worth of territory ….

It's the same mentality regarding taking the two. And dare I say it not attempting to take the one because if you miss you give up a seven tackle set. But people hate being on edge.

It depends on the circumstances whether to go long or short. If a team is getting pumped on the scoreboard and have had to do a few dropouts in succession then the short kickoff is the best gamble. If you're comfortably in front and have to take dropouts 1-2 times in succession then kick long.

i don’t think he’d be any faster, he just seems to be playing with a better attitude. He’s numbering up and showing signs of urgency when need be.

He looks faster to me - I remember him making linebreaks in years gone by, and looking for support.

This try was 40m, or so, and he never looked like getting caught.

Plus, he burned Coates, which is no mean feat.

He looks sharper with his running motion to me.

Which is awesome, because he is an awesome player.

Any ideas on when next weeks game will be based on recent years?
It will never be based on recent years. It's all based on our results over 25 rounds this year. We finished fourth so we will play against the team that finished first after 25 rounds, just this year.

i've always thought someone should learn how to do a drop kick as hard as f**k along the ground towards the guy standing on the sideline - see how the merkin handles it
ive seen him do it on kick offs - alot easier when the ball is placed
I saw our NSW Cup side play some random team this year and they employed a hard shallow grubber kickoff which was angled to the sideline. Once they got the ball back because we tried to trap it and failed and at least twice it just went straight out which gave them the feed in a scrum in an attacking position. 😳

Sivo has def playing at a different level. He’s actually being a aggressive merkin in defence. Never thought he’d had it in him.

Its a good tactic as the opposition are usually setup all across the field for the long drop out so it takes them2-3 plays to get set when there is a short drop out. Plus the defense is already on the line so no long kick chase.
The best thing about it for me is the unpredictability. High risk, high reward. Too much boring safe shit in the game.
