But I’m genuinely interested. I agree he rarely puts in a clearing kick. I’ve put that mostly down to having Moses who is one of, if not the best, at them. We also have Lussick and Hands who are acceptable long kickers out of the ruck.
Now Gutho I remember doing long kicks and I know he’s not great at them. Not bad but he’d be well entrenched in bottom half of current players who regularly doing kicking.
But Drown I don’t recall doing a clearing kick. His midrange kicks are good bordering on elite. His bombs are good, but usually we want him as a chaser anyway. And his short kicks are fine.
But yeah interested to know why he doesn’t do clearing kicks (other than Moses being better at them)

Not properly utilising a long kick on Monday killed us. Whether or not it is down to having a capable player - I am not sure.

Our fifth tackle options in general were terrible.

I don’t think it did other than maybe it was a factor in our poor attempts in going early to edges. The times we took tackles on fifth in horrendous positions weren’t really long kick situations, they were mid to short range.

Yeah I thought some of our decisions around when to shift the ball were the biggest factor in the loss rather than anything to do with our kicking game.

I didnt think the lack of long kicks killed us. We were camped in their 20 but got the dropseys or threw stupid passes trying to get SIVO one on one with Stains and as 84 said, when they were a man down we should not be throwing them side line to side line without anyone straightening up.

We should really turn on the power game and then spread it or use offloads to really bugger them out

Our tactics were all wrong

It was old Parramatta score with every possession mentality. This to me is the “soft underbelly”. It’s not weakness with avoiding tough stuff, it’s laziness with not doing tough stuff when “you don’t have to”.
It’s not even an attitude that “I need to rock up each week to run through brick wall, get up and run through it again”, it’s f**ken self awareness that you’re being a lazy f**ken shit. It’s trust when your teammate yells at you “you’re being a f**ken lazy merkin” to think oh yeah I am f**ken slacking off.
I get annoyed with people on here when they say BA is all about nepotism, or doesn’t want his hookers doing anything, or loves a turd polish, or we can’t score points, when in my opinion this consistent f**ken attitude is BA’s biggest f**ken failing. It’s not new, can forgive it happening in 2017 when we stepped in quicksand vs Cowboys, but it’s f**ken 2024.
And some of you lot should f**ken learn it as well. I said it last week, I’d be happy to win by 1, while some of you f**kers were expecting us to be top of table. Merkins need to stop worrying about playing “badly” vs “bad” teams.

This is 100%

I've said it before. You need kids come thru who played together to get that desire or mentally those type of players. We have Hopgood,Will,Guth,Morretti who have it. Unsure about the rest. Lot are easy come easy go types. Win or lose or whatever

Will yes
Moretti we’ll see
Gutho…. Yes but he needs to be better at getting his teammates to do better
Hopgood has been part of problem so far this year. But last year yes

There are a few players in cup that put in even when getting pumped.

Maybe that's Cayless's job just to tell them to keep putting in..

If anyone watched the last CUP game how Melbourne ESQ was our last try....

I have heard BA say numerous times previously over the years in a press conference we were chasing a soft win.

I heard it again on Monday and wanted to scream.

Same old excuses with everyone at this club from coaches through to the players.

What was the message last year after missing the finals i heard off-season from the group.

Every 2 points is critical in this competition.

4 rounds in we have already tossed 2 points down the drain.

Unfortunately as you get to pro levels, there’s a minimum standard of skill and less emphasis on minimum standard of putting in

Yes! “We tried to take shortcuts”, BA it’s been the same f**ken players trying to take those shortcuts for 5 years! At least I can bet BA tore them apart yesterday for it BUT WHY THE f**k ARE THEY REOCCURRING?!? The saving grace is that it’s only week 4. It’s salvageable but FMD I’d have been happier losing by 12 but playing correctly then the shit that was tossed up

he said something like : until the players realise they can't take shortcuts every week .... it baffled me. Most of the team has been with BA for so long and they still don't want to do it... Then drop them if their attitude stinks. He dropped NRown

I reckon BA changing it up by starting Paulo & Matto only added to the soft mentality of the players we will piss it in today.

We don't need these blokes coming off the bench that has worked for the first 3 weeks. Its only the tigers we can put our feet up pretty early.
