Who else was getting visions of Brad drew, Jamie Lyon, Vaileki etc yesterday??? What a great season....too bad it all evaporated once I realised I was watching lussick, harper and sivo....
I was all of nine when 2001 happened, so my memories of Brad Drew are that he existed, Jamie Lyon is a f**king rat and I liked Vaealiki because I thought his name was cool. Thankfully that also helps the 2001 Grand Final not sting as much as 2009 and 2022.

That requires experience and confidence. Not a skillset you get from backups. You bring the backup in and he might do more of the kicking if that's his skillset, otherwise more senior members of the spine step up. At Penrith that's Luai. At Parra it's Dylan Brown.

What are your thoughts on Dylan brown not having at least a mediocre long kicking game after 100 FG games and playing alongside one of the best long kickers in the game?

Like Simonsson is the answer as well. Please..he's barely 1st grade.
We need to recruit a winger, centre, 2nd row and hooker for next yr.
These are our problem areas.
We also need start looking at the fullback situation and a genuine halfback back up...
A real coach would also be very exciting!!

Improving players skill sets are not the coaches job mate.

I wish he did. It must be hard to do, considering that there is only 3 or 4 players who can actually do it. Cleary, DCE, Moses and Burton ? Burton isn’t really good at it even though he has a huge boot.

Edit: I got it all wrong. Fogarty is the gun !

Actually when you think about it, there are some missing metrics. A team may have a very capable kicker, however may find himself mostly at T5 40m out, vs a player who always finds himself 60m out on T5. So the type of kick required will differ.

Oh I can find more of the tigers flopping in if you want... At least we got pulled up for it once...

Also leg pulls seem to be ok again in tackles Seyfarth was a fan on doing them.
Mate, it sounds like at least 2 of us are one-eyed.
It would be interesting to watch the replay, over a couple of bourbons, and have us both pointing out where we (think) were wronged. We would probably not shut up.
I'd finish the post with " at Commbank, Parra get so many home team leg-ups, it makes you sick" . . . but you might disagree somehow ! ;)
Good luck in the season, Moses will be back soon enough.

Games played but not total kicks so doesn't mean Fogarty has the longest boot, might just be that he kicks more often.

Correct, plus as I said field position will dictate the type of kick required.

I reckon it's a coaching thing. I dont know if they do or dont, but they should get him to practice OT. I think long kicking is more about timing coz alot of little fellas have big boots, and Dyl is coordinated and athletic enough to do it but I think he just doesnt practice.

I think the coaches leave it up to the players and think, our backs wont get injured. Case in point, no real good enough backups like fullback

If only Dyl had Cleary's or Reece's mindset to be the best that you can by being a student instead of riding off his athletic abilities.

I dunno. Every player has strengths and weaknesses. Is it possible he doesn’t work hard enough to improve his kicking?

😂 that sounds like how I watch every replay after a loss bourbon in hand angry face applied.

Most of the time though it's me replaying where the Eels players f**ked up though not where the other team got leg ups.

enjoy the week off!

This new penalty is the most inconsistent.
We were penalised for one in the lead up to the opening try where I thought it was part of the tackle and there was no twisting or anything but if that’s what it is, that’s what it is.
But then there were countless (by both teams for the benefit of our Wiger fan, and in all games) where a tackler grabs a leg as he breaks and runs back to marker/line that I think is way worse and they aren’t called.
Crichton is a special for it every tackle.
What the f**k is the actual “interpretation”?

Why do people say he doesn’t have a long kicking game? Is it simply because he doesn’t attempt them, or because they’ve seen him try to kick long and fail at it?

Can only go off what we have seen in his 100+ games.

But I’m genuinely interested. I agree he rarely puts in a clearing kick. I’ve put that mostly down to having Moses who is one of, if not the best, at them. We also have Lussick and Hands who are acceptable long kickers out of the ruck.
Now Gutho I remember doing long kicks and I know he’s not great at them. Not bad but he’d be well entrenched in bottom half of current players who regularly doing kicking.
But Drown I don’t recall doing a clearing kick. His midrange kicks are good bordering on elite. His bombs are good, but usually we want him as a chaser anyway. And his short kicks are fine.
But yeah interested to know why he doesn’t do clearing kicks (other than Moses being better at them)

Edit - but also his kicking game wasn’t a factor on Monday. His continued insistence to push sideways was. Not all on him but without Moses, we need Drown to be the one to tell the forwards to grow a collective pair and get f**king smashed for 10-20 minutes so that we could’ve rolled over the top of them in the last 20 minutes. The biggest disappointment for me on Monday was that I felt our players left a lot in the tank at fulltime
