Rd6: Eels v Tigers GAME DAY THREAD @ Commbank Stadium 18/4/22

What wanker writes glad the opposition won...
I think he was meaning that if we had won then we’d be glossing over some major issues. Our defence from the start of the season has been woeful. Even the coach admitted this. Sometimes a loss could be a wake up call that things need to be fixed. I hate losing but we definitely did not deserve to win today. We were poor.

Yes and no

We have been scrapping in some wins but looking at our points against before today should have raised a few flags.

After today our defence is still poor and the attitude shows it.

Lane is lazy AF I guess that's why you can't have Cartwright in the side as well.

At this point in time this is a poorly coached team. We consistently dominate the forward battle against most teams and yet still continuously get dragged into dogfights no matter the quality of the opposition. Any well coached team would know how to take advantage of such fantastic field position. This isn’t a new thing. Its been going on for the last 3 seasons now. I get the impression we are only as good as we are sometimes because of the quality of the roster (mainly forwards) who manage to get up for certain games. We seem to win in spite of the gameplan rather than because of it. The run lines in the 20m zone are crap, the goal line defence is awful and the use of the bench is terrible.

The worst thing about yesterdays game was these standards are acceptable under this coach, they don't happen at the top club's under the top coach's.

But here they do, but with the bench he picked and the clueless rotations he was just as much to blame as anyone out there, and do we practice field goals??? I seriously doubt it after the Mel game and then this one. Our attention to detail and the 1%ers are still shithouse and have been in all the time Bea Arthur has been here. That also goes back to shit standards being good enough. But don't worry we will go out with a real brave effort in week 2 and everyone can feel real good about themselves and then delude ourselves thinking we will be a the next season........

Probably an unpopular opinion, but our pack is over rated, sure it's one of the stronger packs in the NRL, but it's not as dominant as the press keep making out. It's Moses long kicking game that gives us the advantage going set for set, and relieves a lot of pressure when our go forward doesn't make the meters through the middle.

RCG's one of the best props in the comp, Paulo's hands are more important than his go forward ( we missed that yesterday yet not a mention ) and then Maka - Oregon, both average to below average props. Marata's go forward on an edge is awesome, but then Papali'i's lost that zing, maybe doing too many minutes? Matterson's a great defender, but very average in the go forward stakes. Brown eats up meters before first contact but rarely busts the line. And our PTB speed is slow.

Oh and Lane is either a champion or a liability depending on which Lane shows up.

Im a huge fan of Lane but gee he looked off the pace yesterday. He played in slow motion. I counted 5 bombed Eels trys yesterday. A couple of times Penisini ran in front of his inside man when a try was on. He was really poor. I also watched the guy drop many bombs put up to him in the warm up. The Tigpies missed a huge opportunity there. Rheed tidied up really well at times and definitely needs relief but waiting till he's gassed to make the substitution is crazy. Im pretty convinced Rein and Perham only got on because of injury. Our ruck D was awful. Reg was absolutely wasted long before injury saw him replaced. No injury he would have played 80 no doubt.
If Oppy is out I fear next weeks TLT. The 2s were gash. Next man up has to be Cini. We need a genuine winger. The last thing we need is a backline reshuffle to accommodate a non winger. Definitely didnt deserve the result yesterday. The better team won.

Jake the worry is every week sides find space out wide against us.
Its very rare we create an overlap for the winger to stroll in untouched. I'm unsure why we aren't able to create these type of overlaps anymore
Our structures are fine according to the coach, this is also the idiot who still can’t pick and rotate a bench after 9 seasons so who knows???

Too right and then Jnr will get flogged on Sunday wanting him to play 78 mins.
Player load management is horrendous.
Why pick 17 players when you almost have no intention of using the lot.
Epic eff ups year in year out
The dope just doesn’t learn from his mistakes, but let’s face it he only has to make week 2 of the finals. That’s good enough for this mediocre club to give you a 2 year extension.

The play with Gutherson taking the ball on the last and kicking it dead, while DBrown looked on, was classic Gutho trying to hard and overplaying.
I think it was only the 4th, making that play even worse. f**king hog, I’ll say it again easily the most replaceable of our spine.

A genuine question for those in the know. Is McGreggor still part of the coaching team? Ive seen no pics of him at training, hes disappeared from the coaches box and Ive heard no mention of him for weeks. For that matter theres been little on Ennis either.
Thanks.

Watching Gutho from behind the posts, his positional play, defence and energy rivals any 1 in the game. Its when he overplays his hand is when he can look poor. He has kept out of the halves way these past weeks but when things got a tad desperate yesterday he panicked and felt the need to interject. Sadly that was at the expense of his support play which was ordinary yesterday.
