Is it ONeils responsibility?
No
Why does anyone sponsor an individual?
Why are tennis players, swimmers, cricketers etc sponsored and not their sport or their team?
Tennis players and probably swimmers too participate in an individual sport, and if you've ever heard of them it's in the context of the individual not the organisation. I understand there are swimming teams but I couldn't name a single one other than national teams, which then would have little marketability outside their national market.
Get off the grass Poo! It depends on where they can get bang for buck. Its about marketing and sales. Like all things in life some do it better than others.
They do but this is about individuals, not clubs. Where a player can get a 'genuine' TPA that isn't counted against his NRL club's salary cap, it should make no difference which club he plays for. The TPA money is his and not a reason for any club to underpay him. He will still go to the highest bidder (or whatever the clubs are offering that he cares about) because he will be getting the TPA money regardless.

Here I assume you are talking about TPAs that require a player to play for a particular club for less under the cap than he would take to play elsewhere. Otherwise it isn't the responsibility of Mark O'Neill or any other official of any other club. It's got nothing to do with them other than their requirement to declare it to the NRL.

And if it is something the club needs to arrange then it needs to count under the salary cap, as per the rules. It will provide no recruitment/retention benefit outside the cap.
Probably best to just give up eh? Ffs Poo! For a fellow who constantly debates any subject you surprisingly accept defeat way too easy.
Well if we sign Papenhuyzen his TPAs should theoretically follow him and the Storm should get no advantage. Just like the Keno TPA that Moylan lost when he left Penrith but was then supposedly being transferred to Maloney:

It appears the Keno 3rd Party deal worth around 200K that was previously with Moylan looks likely to be knocked back by the NRL.

It is quite clear that the club has organised it and not Maloney. All 16 clubs probably do this but Penrith has made it pretty obvious by trying to transfer the deal from one player to the next.

Maloney even said he is waiting for the club to finalise the 3rd Party deal. Which makes it even more obvious!!!

If you read the bottom of this article it says the paperwork regarding Maloney's 3rd Party deal was submitted on Nov 3. The fact it hasn't been approved yet is very concerning.

Maloney will either have to source another 3rd Party deal or Penrith will have to shed a player on around $300K. This is due to having to replace this player in the top 30 with another player on minimum wage ($100K).

Penrith will definitely move a player on and get Maloney because it will be a PR disaster if Maloney doesn't come now. Gus will look like an idiot.

Papenhuyzen is marketable because of his public profile. Regardless of what you might think of his stature within the game it's self, he's very well known outside of die hard fans, and well recognised by casual NRL fans and probably a good whack of people who don't follow NRL at all.

It really doesn't matter that he has a shit haircut, it probably helps, given it likely makes him more recognisable being different to the norm.

Papenhuyzen has the benefit of playing for Melbourne which means he has access to 3 markets.

A Parramatta player isnt going to attract TPAs in Melbourne while papenhuyzen will and also attract those in RL heartland in Sydney and possibly Brisbane.

Papenhuyzen is also a good lad see him around the hills area from time to time during off-season as he grew up in Kellyville.

Who is this Papenhuyzen you lot are talking about? I’ve never heard of him. Does he play rugby league like those superstars, highly marketable and all round good people Clinton Gutherson, Viliame Penisini, Dylan Brown, Mitchell Moses, Ryan Matterson, Junior Paulo or Reagan Campbell-Gillard? Now if I were a sponsor there’s some players I’d want to be associated with!
And not just with the rugby league crowd.
Dylan Brown’s a hit with young females, Junior Paulo draws in the pronunciation aficionados, Reagan Campbell-Gillard the Freddie Mercury fans and Viliame Penisini penetrates many markets.

I feel TPAs may change if we play exciting brand of football or win a premiership. Why would a big brand pay our players right now when we play boring ass football and no one outside of this club's supporters cares about us?

We have a big following but that's not going to help someone in QLD make a decision.

so who from Parra do you think IS getting TPA money now? and who do you think is marketable for the future?

I would say ...
Gutho IS now - he is on radio and that betting ad (ladbrokes?)

Who else might? ...
Moses - has shown a tempremental side in the past swearing at teammates etc - so dunno if he is overly marketable
Rheed - he seems marketable, tho he manages to get into the odd fistycuffs onfield. I'm sure Gus will get him something
Dly - tbh talks like a dill, so I don't see much for him
Penisini - I think he is most likely (outside gutho) to get tpa interest in the future
Others - I don't know if anyone else is worthy of much other than a smattering of one off appearance type money

Moses has a TPA with BMW (Parramatta I think). I reckon he might also have one with Fox.
Gutho has one with Puma too.

No idea about anyone else.

does having a TPA with a car manufacturer equate to getting a car to drive?

yeah true, I imagine companies that make shoes/clothes might have many players on their books - but I dunno how much its worth ..... on the weekend on the radio they were talking about how Josh Morris had a deal with nike (or adidas or someone) and that it was cool to go shopping with him and get some free gear - open ended freebies?

Imagine if you got to the register and it turns out you're with Brett.
