If that's what we have next year then seriously I'll give up.

We need to get a least one top class center, obviously a halfback and even a 5/8th, the more I see of Mullen the more frustrating it gets. Forget Simmo and Doogs they are way past it. Another front rower would be nice, and throw in a backrower as well. At the moment we have a team of mostly second stringers. The club needs to put it's hand in it's pocket a buy some class.
While we're at it, a coach would be good too, I thought Stone would do the job but that was way off base.

If we can get:

Halves - talk of Kimmorley for a year and Beau Henry for a long-term contract would be great. It gives Beau the time to settle in to the team and someone to mentor him. Finch wouldn't do - too young, would expect more than a year or two;

Centre - this is what we lack so badly. I just don't know who we approach is all. There is talk that Inglis might be the one player moved on from the Storm however he is not effective enough for the cash he commands.

Front Rower - we are one quality front rower short. Blair or Manu from the Storm would be handy? Retaining Cross is also key.

They need to be the priorities over someone like Luke O'Donnell to be honest. We don't need to be going after any old rep player just to say we have recruited someone of quality. We need quality players in the right positions, and those three listed above are key.

I think we will lose Doogs, Simmo and Cross - and others such as Ndaira, Karawana, Fawcett, Tovo, Mika etc from our salary cap.
With the front loading we are doing this season I think we will have a million dollars worth of salary cap, or enough to buy 3 or 4 top line players - or 5 or 6 mid ranking players.

One of the biggest problems we face is actually being able to atract players here. We have the cash, and could free up more by letting Doogs and Simmo go and any of the other non performers we have here ATM. But our reputation is taking a battering, we are becoming a bit of a no go zone for players I think. I truely fear we will struggle to get any of the top players to come here.

Quality players want to go to clubs that have a structure and a plan, along with a decent coach, in other words a club capable of winning a title. We are a long way from that, and there is no indication that it's going to change. I mean we have excitment headlines in the paper about re-signing players like Rogers and Dureau!!! What is the club thinking?

I'd love to see us sign Lima, Tolman, and Merrin. IMO a front row rotation of those 3 plus Fa'aoso, Evarn and Taufua (switching between lock and prop) would be more than adequate

funnily and sadly, the opening post is probably not far from the mark

our recruitment policy appears to be 're-sign all our current underperformers' as though getting them to put pen to paper is an acheivement

alex outlines the dream we all have however antonious rightly describes the stark reality..

regardless of our bumper cash position, it is the state of the club, the current coach and the current playing roster than will mean we may well see the exact same bunch of players on the park next year. like i said in annother thread, we need radical changes and fast so that we present the image of a club with direction and a club about to turn things aroujnd.

this 'more of the same' strategy means we can look forward to exactly that

I said realistic bro, all indications from stones comments are that we are looking to resign everyone, and with our problem of attracting quality here, its realistic we may have the same team, minus the retirement of Simpson or Doogs.

I fear that Baron is being the most realistic of all of us.

Based on our demonstrated recruitment efforts, are we really going to recruit any topliners?

Lets be frank, the last gun we recruited was BK............... in 1999 for the 2000 season, who was coach then, the WOK IIRC.

Baron is on the money, we'll have a very similar team to 2010.

I don't reckon Finch is too young, I think he is nearly 30 now? More than enough maturity to show Henry (or any other good young half) the ropes I reckon.

Personally I'd consider throwing the bank at GI...he is *that* good and surely not many other clubs would be able to throw the sort of money he would be asking for next year?

We need to be more ambitious.

If we let the players on the market know that we are ambitous and want to sign not just 1 marquee player but we acutally want 3 or 4 big name players who'll take us to the next level I'm sure it'll have a domino affect.

If we can make a coup and sign a big name early, I'm talking JT or Inglis big, it'll make our bargaining power soooooooo much higher.

Throw 600k at Thurston. Get him to sign this month. People will know we are seroius and that we still have money to throw around. Domino effect kinda?

So hopefully (maybe not that realistically)

1. Kidley
2. Uate
3. Sau
4. Pete
5. Vuna

6. Mullen
7. JT

8. Snowden
9. De Gois
10. Tolman
11. Patto
12. Taia
13. Tuafua

14. Faas
15. Cross
16. Ciraldo
17. Ervan Tui

NOT UNREALISTIC!

Will set the tone for the future. Hopefully next year is a first step in becoming a much stronger team if you know what I mean.

OR I agree with Serc.

Throw the bank plus that hospital that Roopy was talking about at him. Infact you can throw in my pocket money as well.

jeebus, so many emos in here I feel like i'm at a My Chemical Romance concert....

I hate people who buy tickets to events and they don't know what's on? What's with the suit? And the combed hair? Where's your black fingernails, lipstick and trench coat?

Bloody interlopers!

We aren't going to get Henry if he thinks he may have to play second fiddle to Brett Finch for the next 3 or 4 years. He'll come here if he knows he'll get a shot next year, not wait in line. He can do that at St George...

bench could go any number of ways, but as far as a starting 13 goes... this is what needs to happen. whether simmo goes to the bench or gets pissed right off doesn't really concern me. his defence is still great, but his attack is so 1 dimensional it's crazy. either play him in the front row or politely inform him that his services are no longer required.

i would really hope we see some Tovo or Edwards in first grade soon. it's obvious our props aside from cross are a bunch of marshmallows... and soft as sh*t in the head to boot. i don't care what stats you pull out for Tolar, the bloke is a dead set plodder. he hits the line like a fart on a brick wall. you can bitch and moan about how technically sound he is... but we've seen the very best he can ever offer us, and it's piss all. he wouldn't get a run in any other pack in the comp.

Tuimavave... well what can i say. i had big wraps on him coming here... but he's not a starting prop. he's a benchy/depth prop at best. his biggest problem is that he has no heart, and doesn't look as fit as he could be either. such a shame, because he has talent. plays at less than 50% effort consistantly. has disappointed me greatly this season.

these changes are all very realistic... and would go a long way to putting us at the opposite end of the ladder to that which we currently occupy. all the team would need after these changes were made would be some passion and effort.

things arn't looking good for stone. he'll be feeling the heat, and i don't think he has the resources, the coaching skill or the reputation to get out of this one. if he even had 1 of these 3 things he could probably pull us out of the sh*t... but alas i can't see it happening.

Tuimavave - Lazy, he knows that he has to do nothing to stay in the side as there is nothing to replace him. He seems to do less each week.
