everything you say was true 5 years or more ago.
deny progress till the steamroller runs you over.

I'm clutching at straws, via what exactly ?Lets compare the state of international afl to league, then compare the state of domestic union or even aleague to that of league.

I have no doubts that league will be fine. What will the Hyundai aleague be called in 10 years time, when the crowds realise the standard of australian soccer is not what was promised ?

I'm sure RL will be fine too but I don't go in for this "well take the game to America" claptrap that this thread started out with .

clutching at straws in pretending that the world of rugby league exists outside of 2 states of Australia , a couple of counties in Northern England and 1 city in NZ .

A-League crowds have increased 50% in 3 seasons . In season 1 the semi final between Newcastle & CC drew 10K to EA Stadium ... tonight it drew 23K . When the next tv rights and naming rights come up for grabs they'll get substantially more than they got as an unknown startup league . Melbourne had a losing season and still drew an average of 26K to their home games ... with a fraction of the $$$ flushed down the s-bend of their RL counterparts in the same city .

I have not commented on taking the game to the US, pretty simple point, or are you having trouble reading ?.

Well the crowds were 2/3rds of SFA when it started so an increase would be expected. Lets see how much each club makes each season, that is an indicator of how successful a side is. Take the finals out of the numbers and see how healthy the game is. Will it survive, yes, will it ever overtake leage or afl, no.

the crowds were exactly what they budgeted for in season 1 ... 10k
and how can you say that an increse was expected after you said the standard was not what was promised ? Especially with a salary cap of not much more than Beckham earns in a week !
expansion wasn't expected until after season 5 but it looks like coming in 2 years early on the Gold Coast and in Townsville . (the AFL will be cr@pping themselves about the GC with RL and Soccer there)

will it overtake league & AFL ? I'll answer that but asking a question of you ... where do you see RL & AFL getting any bigger than they are now ... given the domesticity of their respective sports ?

Thats the biggest straw clutch ive seen.

Why not compare gAFL and domestic soccer to NRL and International Soccer and international Union to International League???

Cos you will lose the argument b4 it begins???

Perth Glory lost $2mill this season!

Where will RL get bigger? a stonger international game that in the next 10 years will see France and Wales improve dramatically thanks to the efforts of ESL, an expanded NRL that includes two possibly three new teams that will give the sport the national stage it needs, a new TV deal that will financially set the NRL up for the next 20 years. That's where I see RL growing in the next decade.

ps you ready to admit yet that more than 3 countries play the sport professionally?

The NRL still has a lot of room to grow, more QLD teams and teams in Perth and Adelaide will boost every statistic, from merchandise sales to attendances to pay/FTA TV ratings.

AFL on the other hand has peaked, they can't support more teams in NSW and QLD, they could get another team into Perth but they don't seem to want to do that atm.

Not to mention that now the NRL clubs are pushing memberships and setting goals the crowds will see a sizable increase over the next 5-15 years, much like the AFL did in the early 90's.

lol @ banana breath

get it thru your thick skull , you knuckle dragger .... 100 years of RL ... the only expansion has been to Perth (dead) , Adelaide (dead) & Melbourne (propped up by News Ltd $$$ or they'd be dead too)

please don't don't come back with "oh but Townsville & Brisbane & Gold Coast are expansion ya know !!" ...

RL is a great game ... but it is what it is and will never be anything more .

PNG, NZ.

and france in the NH.

if you are going to try and troll a thread you need to get your facts straight.

what a dope. why cant we get some intelligent trolls on here for once. all the ones ive seen are no challenge.

perhaps because they have chosen another sport over RL already tells you how dumb they are.

Sad wasnt it, killing off a club in a city that wanted a team, and propping up a club in Melba that no-one really cares about and costs upward of 15mill a year to float.

Id hate to imagine where they get that molah from????:sarcasm:

south sydney were formed in 1908 to represent the south sydney area.

in 1908 the eastern suburbs roosters were formed to represent sydneys eastern suburbs.

where did they go?

well done to souths.

the only true remaining foundation club left. they have the same colours and name as in 1908, unlike the roosters who are embarrased to represent sydneys eastern suburbs.

and who needs juniors when you can buy bulldogs players.

I'll type this slowly for you banana breath

I'm a season ticketholder of an NRL team

I'm also a season ticket holder of Sydney FC (oh the horror  )

I don't support AFL ... went to a couple of games a few years ago with free tickets and I wished I could've got a refund ;-) .

a few months ago I was mailed a brochure for tickets to the RL World Cup ... and it is going to be a massive embarrasment for this game .... showcasing the the farce that international RL is . 3 countries play this game . RL isn't even the dominant sport in any of those 3 countries . pretending that Lebanon , Russia & outer Mongolia play this game is like pretending that you're built like John Holmes and Jennifer Hawkins is your girlfriend .

Just play the Tri-Series and be happy .

channel 9 are'nt showing any WC games that don't involve Australia , NZ or GB ... that's gotta tell ya something .

you are aware that RL is the dominant sport in PNG?

and the guy claims to be a NRL season ticket holder.

what a dope.

last time i checked all the super pool games were on 9. the super pool includes png.

i just hope a-league soccer survives long enough to get some of our grounds improved.

soccer has failed any number of times before in this country and Sydney FC are losing millions each year.

the irony of a roosters fan bagging clubs that try and expand RL.

a club with no juniors and hardly any crowds and basically bludge off other clubs.

if they wanted to do the right thing by RL theyd move to the central coast and leave souths to be the popular city RL team.
