i understand now why the roosters ignored decades of tradition and became sydney city.

they are aware that since they have so few fans of their own, they need to market to fans of more successful clubs.

with the Swans chant of "sydney" at home games, the roosters thought that by becoming sydney city they would attract some AFL fans across.

its a shame the roosters dont go to the central coast, an area desperate for a RL team, even the chooks, and leave sydneys east to the rabbits.

souths would more than likely be more succesful at getting sydneys east behind RL rather than allowing AFL to dominate.

Go sydney

if former great players of eastern suburbs like dally messenger or dave brown came back today, would they be happy the club they played for changed its name the way it did.

maybe tradition and history dont mean anything at the Sydney City Roosters, but for the NRL's oldest foundation club, souths they are proud of their tradition.

great players like arthur hennessy or clive churchill would be proud the club has maintained its links with what made it great.

well done souths

its such a shame that the chooks ignored their history and the area of sydney they represent.

good to see the other foundation club is proud of its heritage.

the only real advantage of the chooks is when i want to buy a ticket to their game, i can get it on game day, 10 mins before kick off right on the half way line.

unfortunately when i want to get the same seat at a souths game, i have to buy it weeks in advance.

ive seen a better atmosphere at rookwood cemetry than at Sydney City home games these days

we all wish that redfern was developed into a NRL standard stadium but that dike always gets her way...

so we have to deal with it and move on...

lucky for the roosters in recent years theyve had the games against saints (anzac day) and souths as their home games to boost their crowd average.

as these clubs are amongst the most popular, they have given the chooks home crowds a massive boost.

going to these games and seeing the small number of roosters home fans outnumbered by visiting fans is quite funny.

without these games, the chooks home crowds wouldve been well under 10,000, and probably the lowest in the league.

cronulla represent a smaller part of sydney and still wouldve ended up with better crowds, if not for the saints and souths games being home chook games.

and unlike cronulla, Sydney City represent the whole of Sydney

Absolutely, no arguements there..but when Dally critisises a club like the the Roosters for lacking in tradition you have to say that his comparason with Souths are a little fresh when they don't even play in their own district every home game.
