like dally messenger was an Easts RL junior?

He wasn't but at the time he was living in the Eastern Suburbs which meant he had to play for Easts under the rules.
He actually born in Balmain and lived there untill he moved to South Melbourne and than eventually he moved to Double Bay.

100 years ago the great game of RL came into being in australia at club level officially via the establishment of the NSWRL competition. this competition was the most successful club RL competition on the planet.

that competition consisted of 9 foundation clubs.

of those 9, only 2 really remain.

one of those is proud of its history. its name is unaltered and it is proud of the area it represents.

the other is the Sydney City Roosters.

souths said no to merger. they said no to a relocation out of sydney. they refused to budge on their tradition when the whole world of RL said they must.

the club stood up for its history and tradition, proud of what that represents.

the roosters decided theyd forget the part of sydney they represent and try and get fans across all of sydney. their history must mean nothing to them as they so quickly shed what it stands for.

so faced with a choice between a club that respects what it stands for and is proud of it, or one that struggles to get fans from its area interested, and tries to market itself across the entire sydney area, ill go with the former club anyday.

well done souths. as a club you represent all the players who donned that famous cardinal and myrtle jersey to such distinction over 100 mighty years. from ash hennessy, to the little master and to craig wing today, its a club that its former players would be proud of

You nailed it Dally!:)

Love your work dally.
thanks mate, as a fan of the game of RL i love your club.

for what theyve been through i wish them all the success they deserve.

south sydney represent the RL i grew up with.

its lost some of that these days but when i look at souths i remember what the game was about.

i want to see the sport expand but when you lose foundation clubs, its a very sad thing.

the foundation clubs made RL the great sport in australia it is today.

and when you see crowe and holmes a court talking about how good our sport is versus other sports, and how we have really crap TV deals, im wishing they were running the game.

i never thought crowe or HAC would succeed like they did. i thought souths shouldve gone for the safer option and gone to the central coast.

years ago i thought they should just merge like many other sydney clubs did.

theyve just kept proving me wrong.

and i couldnt be more pleased.

so apart from the whole roosters v rabbits argument, has everybody sent their emails into the telegraph complaining of the treatment of rugby league by rebecca wilson. i cant believe she will get away with writing such lies. no other sport would cop it!

My email for all the good it will do!

Dear Sir/Madam,
in regards to the article written by Rebecca Wilson re the South's v's Leeds game in Jacksonville. Clearly this poorly informed piece was written to once again stick the knife into RL (why you should wish to alienate the most popular sport and its fans in your readership market I have no idea). Could you please advise Ms. Wilson that RL is played in WA, we have a strong schools comp, a growing amateur league and this year will launch a Jim Beam Cup team. 2012 will see the return of the Reds to the NRL, all being well. You may also like to advise her that RL is alive and thriving in a dozen plus countries at various levels. Past history shows Ms. Wilson is pretty clueless when it comes to sport (clearly sporting knowledge isn't a CV requirement of a sports writer on your paper!)but this piece is probably one of the most misinformed opinion pieces I have read. Shame on Ms Wilson and shame on your paper for printing such tripe!

south sydney had no choice about playing at redfern oval as sydney city council refused to do it up. since its been demolished, where would you have souths play, on the road?

souths had no choice about playing at redfern. indeed, they had an $8 million offer to leave sydney for gosford. a deal which wouldve assured the club its future and every RL fan except souths fans said thats the way you should go.

souths said, nope, stuff the money, playing in sydney is important to us

the roosters had a choice about their name and they said, f**k tradition, were going to call ourselves a new name to get new fans, as we cant get the eastern suburbs interested.

What planet are you on???

Souffs were at the SFS for years after deadfern.

They discovered they werent recieving as good a deal from the trust as Easts got.

They took the $$$$ and ran to homiebush.

The SFS wanted them to stay. Offered them the same deal as Easts. Souffs made a business decision and took the deal at homiebush.

How does this differ from the name change???? Its about $$$$, both decisions.

Youre trying so hard, pity you have no idea.

Any facts to back this crap up, I doubt it.
Do you even know what the deal the Roosters where getting compared to Souths? I doubt it.

A reportedly guaranteed 900k per season no matter how many fans turn up is fantastic.

20km to a game is not far when you know your team is making serious bank out of it.

I don't mind ANZ Stadium.

And im not disagreeing it was a smart decision mate.

But please explain to sonic, what I say is correct.

My original reply was to Dally. He keeps bringing up a name change. I was using the stadium/suburb change as a comparison that $$$$ come b4 some traditions.

Fair point is it not???

Also if it wasn't for that deal we probably wouldn't of survived either, that has been well documented, The move was based on survival.
Now that our profile is rising we might be able to demand the terms we want when the contract is up with the SCG trust, let them chase us, as their crowds have taken a huge slump with poor crowds from the Roosters and Tahs.

Lucky for them Syd FC is now there.

900K? I know you have expenses to pay but averging a crowd of 20,000 in your own stadium would bring in around $5.5million with food and beverages etc. 900k doesn't sound that great in comparison. That to me sounds like an easy option when you have little faith in attracting a crowd.

Dude, you always try to sound like your talking sense and push it all on me that I'm talking crazy and try to get people and my own Fellow Souths fans against me and to decide with you.

You dribbled a whole lot of crap with no facts to back up your claims, you have no idea what deal souths were getting with the trust, and you probably have no idea what deal Roosters where getting.

You saying we sold out tradition to move to homebush, more crap and lies.
We needed to do it for survival, we needed that money, Homebush saved our asses and we are greatful for it.

Stop playing the sympthy card

So you admitt it????

LMFAO.

Why dont you just agree with what I said????

You have major problems mate.

By moving out of the area and establishing the base at Homiebush youve forsaken a tradition. Its a FACT.

No different to Easts changing their name for increased sponsorship $$$$, forsaking a tradition. It is a FACT.

So what have I said wrong???

Why cant you accept the truth???

I don't agree with you, because it's done on survival not to make a profit.
There was no real choice in it, I'm not sure if that will sink in your head, it's not like we wanted to move, we actually want to move back there, but to have a fair deal when we do.
If we didn't do it, we wouldn't be around. We would be out of the comp.
Play at Homebush or don't play at all.
Hmmmmm I wonder which option I would take

I'm waiting for the facts
what deal did Souths get with the trust?
What deal does easts get with the trust?

We got burned by the Trust, they can beg us to come back, not the other way round.
If only you knew.

How could I get people against you???? Make it look like you talk crazy????

Only you can achieve those things.

I never once said I had any idea of what deal souffs or Easts were getting. I just recall when they left, these were the reasons THEY gave, souffs.

If you want to prove me wrong, do it. I will gladly apologise if I have recalled the incident wrongly.

You sound offended like a wounded child.

Im not looking for sympathy. I presented my argument. I asked GeeUp if he agreed. Arent Easts and souffs fans allowed to agree on issues????

Now show me the FACTS.

You say you wouldnt survive without Homiebush I say thats rediculous.

Prove it.

Thats what you do when you disagree with a person, you PROVE them wrong. Facts are what you do it with.

I have nothing to prove. I made the statement you disagree. Prove your point.

As I said if I was wrong I will gladly apologise. Its only a word sorry.

Simple concept really.

BTW re-read what I originally said. Cos I saiid the trust ripped you off. You know a worse deal than we got. I also said the trust asked you to come back. But the $$$ were better at Homiebush.

Souffs were at the SFS for years after deadfern.

They discovered they werent recieving as good a deal from the trust as Easts got.

Youre arguing the points I made, by representing them.

I'm not offended by what you said, just correcting you.
As for your new post you just made above, now you have the hide to ask me for facts when you don't provide any at all.
Heres the deal, you provide the facts I asked you for and when you do I'll be glad to do the same.
