Souffs were at the SFS for years after deadfern.

They discovered they werent recieving as good a deal from the trust as Easts got.

They took the $$$$ and ran to homiebush.

The SFS wanted them to stay. Offered them the same deal as Easts. Souffs made a business decision and took the deal at homiebush.

How does this differ from the name change???? Its about $$$$, both decisions.

Youre trying so hard, pity you have no idea.

souths home ground is redfern oval. council have now demolished it.

the SFS was built to replace easts old home ground the sportsground. why should souths have to play at easts home ground.

real shame they decided to waste money doing up easts home ground, rather than redfern oval. the hordern pavilion is big enough for most of sydney city games, except when souths or saints come to visit.

Also if it wasn't for that deal we probably wouldn't of survived either, that has been well documented, The move was based on survival.
Now that our profile is rising we might be able to demand the terms we want when the contract is up with the SCG trust, let them chase us, as their crowds have taken a huge slump with poor crowds from the Roosters and Tahs.

Lucky for them Syd FC is now there.

the difference is souths had no choice.

the roosters had a choice.

that link is to souths stirring club song "glory glory to south sydney". love hearing this song.

when you love the tradition of your club and dont change the name, you can have the same club song.

since the roosters changed their name, there goes whatever club song they have.

whats their club song anyway ???

oh, City Ford says Yes more often

I think their new club song is some parody of a village people song called macho man and they call it Rooster rooster man.
Quite fitting they choose a Village people song in my opinion.

this quote from russel crowe was posted on the american section on here :

"SOUTH Sydney's historic clash on US soil was a non-event on TV, but the Rabbitohs are making swift moves to ensure their NRL matches are beamed into loungerooms across America.
The Redfern club has been inundated with complaints from irate fans on both sides of the Pacific since Sunday's blackout - a backlash that has only hardened resolve among officials to secure a permanent slot on US pay-TV.

After 12,000 people witnessed Leeds down Souths 26-24 in Jacksonville, co-owners Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court will attempt to persuade Setanta Sports to program their club's NRL matches this season.

Setanta currently holds the rights to televise every NRL fixture, but until last season only showed one game featuring random teams every four weeks. Rabbitohs fans were stunned the network didn't bother to telecast the Australia Day Challenge, with Channel 9 filming the game instead. Nine is yet to determine when its coverage, which features Crowe commentating, will be screened.

"Rugby league is not on TV in America," said Crowe, who has been based in Los Angeles for much of the past 12 months.

"There's a deal already in place but that particular TV company is not really taking advantage of it. I think Souths got on TV once last season.

"That's something the NRL has got to examine, because that deal is just not good enough. There's a thousand TV channels here. Play it at 1am - who cares? Get it on TV. Get people seeing it."

Holmes a Court said he was already in discussions - independent of the NRL - with Setanta.

"They put the teams on rotation, so everyone gets televised," he said. "Problem is, they don't show the games regularly enough.

"We think that if you put one club on regularly, that will drive up a supporter base - and hence their subscriptions."

A-list celebrities such as Crowe, Greg Norman and his fiancee Chris Evert, and former NBA wildman Dennis Rodman, gave Sunday's experiment a glamour edge. But the reality is Souths will be lucky to break even from the $350,000 trip - despite the club's merchandise selling out on the day.

The two-week venture also presented a challenge to coaching staff and players during pre-season, but Crowe claimed the team would benefit overall."

so russel crowe is spending his time trying to more rl on tv in america. meanwhile nick polites is trying to sell more falcons.

well done souths

If HaC and Crowe convinced the TV mob to regularly air South Sydney games only.. and it caused all US fans to be wearing the Red and Green only, it would be fair to say the other NRL clubs would be mighty peeved they didn't jump on this bandwagon! Sounds promising.

Souths in last-ditch talks to stay put
By Steve Mascord

Frantic negotiations last night involving Aussie Stadium, Telstra Stadium and the NRL may have prevented South Sydney from moving their base to Homebush Bay.
The Rabbitohs have scheduled a media conference for 12.30pm today, at which they were expected to announce a four-year deal worth more than $4 million to play all of their home games at the 80,000-capacity main arena at Sydney Olympic Park.
But the Herald understands last-minute talks have changed the landscape dramatically, with Souths chief executive Shane Richardson visiting NRL chief executive David Gallop in his office late yesterday afternoon to discuss the issue.
"It has been a busy day; all will be revealed at 12.30 tomorrow," was all Richardson would say.
An Aussie Stadium spokesman last night revealed some details of the Paddington venue's offer, which has been revised for a third time.
The second revision offered the Rabbitohs similar conditions to those at Telstra Stadium if they could attract 13,500-15,000 fans to each home game, but the new proposal means they need to get only 12,000 people in order to be as well off.
"The league average crowd last year was about 14,800; Souths were below average," the spokesman said. "If they get their crowds up to the average, they will make more money out of Aussie Stadium than they will at Telstra Stadium. There are significant incentives should attendances reach 12,000."
Gallop said that while he had been interested to hear from Richardson, he had no plans to interfere. A delegation from Rabbitohs supporter group the Burrow visited Telstra Stadium on Friday night for the Bulldogs-St George Illawarra game and gave it the thumbs-up.
"I thought it was very, very good," said fan Melissa Kremer, adding that Burrow members were divided on the issue. "We are sick of running last and if this helps us to be truly competitive, then I am completely behind it."

LMFAO.

You have nothing left.

You cant argue fact.

Doesnt Moore Pk represent in the Souffs Jnrs???? Sonic should know hes always a junior man.

Moore Pks directly accross from the SFS. In fact you park in Moore Pk when you attend the SFS dont you????

Isnt souffs traditional "home" the SSG??? All those glory days??? I dont even think they played originally at deadfern, I could be wrong though. I know Easts spent the 1st 3 yrs at the AGRA. Even ive been to a commeroative souffs v the stain match at the SCG. Isnt one organised for this season???

From RL1908

The club has never strayed far from its local community. The first training sessions were held at Moore Park, and the club's first social and business head-quarters was a hotel in Foveau Street, Surry Hills.

More significantly, the club's home games were held in Redfern at a playing field known as Nathan's Cow Paddock. Ultimately it came to be Redfern Oval and directly opposite where the South Sydney Leagues Club stands today.

LOL@Nathans Cow paddock. So I stand corrected, by myself, their 1st home ground was deadfern. Still they trained at Moore Pk. Long walk to the SFS. And Foveau Sts in EASTS territory.

Youre delusional. Kograah not much further than dedfern. Thats almost funny.

It's both considered Souths and Easts territory kinda like a border line thing.
We didn't originaly start playing our games at Redfern. Back in the day Souths played their home games at Royal agricultural ground from 1908 untill 1920. Also from 1911 they used SCG also as back than home ground wasn't a big thing.
Souths moved to Redern in 1948 which is considered their heartland out of all our territories, Eg Maroubra, Moore park etc.
We went back to Royal agricultural ground in 1988 better known as the SFS.

Anyways lucky for us we did get to play in our heartland while we could before we had to move. We wanted a new stadium built at redfern, the NSW government wouldn't allow us to do so.

Bondi is meant to be considered the heartland of Easts, but the Roosters never played there.

Thats very well said.

But how is the AGRA the SSG which became the SFS???

Cos Easts moved from the AGRA to the SSG in 1911.

Id guess it was next door, the old SCG No2?????

So isnt moving to Homiebush a move away from their TRADITIONAL heartland???

Thats what I asked you last night. Theyve broken with tradition. Its not a mater of why. You dont state why Easts became Sydney namewise. You just state it happened. Why ask why in this instance????

And check Bryceys link. Souffs were offered a last ditch plea to stay from the SFS/trust. But they CHOSE to take the $$$ from the homiebush move. Smart move in my opinion, as I said originally, but the facts remain, as I 1st stated them.

It's pretty much the same area, which is the same thing, same paddock.
The matter of why is the most important factor.
Like I said we were lucky to play in our heartland, The Roosters never played in their heart land of Bondi.
There last ditch deal was still not good enough and the main point of it is, why weren't we getting the same deal as the Roosters in the first place, why get the shaft for so many years and than at the end of it they go ok, will this make you happy, forget the past crappy deal we have given you since 1988, we will give you a fair deal in 2007
I won't be surprised if we move back to the SFS once the contract is up and it will be on our terms and not the trust that is getting poor crowds from Easts and the Tahs in recent years.
If it wasn't for Syd FC or Sydney Swans they would be going broke.

whether souths play at easts home ground in the SFS or telstra stadium, neither is their home ground.

and good to see souths have juniors amongst roosters territory, hardly surprising though

No its not the main point.

You missed the main point all that time.

That you cant even ADMITT souffs moving to homiebush is breaking with tradition??? Same as Easts-Sydney is breaking with tradition.

It was that simple.

Now its heartland rubbish.

You keep changing the argument to suit your agenda.
