Record breaking deal for Merrin.

There has been speculation he could command $800,000 a season from rival clubs — better than the Dragons’ offer — and that Brisbane and the Sydney Roosters are already circling.

Speculation = actual quotes now?

Those of you who are already aware, please pardon the comment.

There's an interesting psychological aspect that comes into play here.

The amygdala which among other things, affects our emotions regarding potential loss.

Though a primitive part of the brain it is around 5 or 6 times more influential than the cerebral cortex which is a, later developed area which controls decision making at a higher level and comes into play when analysing potential gains.

The thought of losing a player affects fans and even management far more emotionally than does the prospect of acquisition of a new and perhaps even better prospect.

A bidding war exacerbates the problem because we doubt our judgment as to the value of the player in question.

It should be taken into account too that moving house from one area to another is also damned expensive.

I reckon the Merrin offer, if accurate is overs but in the ballpark so fair enough.

Cagey, this is very true. People are naturally disproportionately unhappy about the dollar they lose than happy about the dollar they win.

Personally, I've come to the realisation that players only really want to get paid first and then everything else comes after that.

Hands off our Muts!
I cant see him playing for any other NRL club (mind, I couldn't imagine the likes of Watmough play elsewhere)

I don't think anybody really believes Dan Hunt is worth $450k. Not sure what kind of drugs Pricey was on when he made that decision but in any other business that would have been a sackable offence.

Having said that I hope that he can regain his form of 2010 and helps lead the charge next year.
He certainly looks fit in the training photos. And at 106kg he's not small.

Not sure what the should offer Merin but Cronk IS worth $800k.

I hope he regains the 2010 form to as he wasn't there !

Good point and one for those still wearing blinkers.
Does that not put doubt in your mind as to all the 'well sourced stories'?
I would guess that even Blind Freddy could read between the lines on what happened with that winger guy :D

Although, I am still highly sceptical of this press release and feel there is an ulterior motive which may not deliver us the result we want.

Hey Gonz. Don't quite get your point. Are you suggesting that because because he didn't play in the GF that he didn't feature at all?
In 2009 he played all 26 games and we were Minor Premiers that year.
In 2010 he played in the first 10 games of season before doing his Achilles just before the Raiders game. That was the end of his season. The Dragons won 8 of those 10 games. He was playing strong.
In 2011 he played his 100th first grade game and represented Country Origin.
In 2012 he also represented the PM's XIII.
I don't think that's a shabby record.
Then Injury and depression has taken him off the rails in recent times.

Now I'm not saying he will return to his 2009/10 form but he has been a strong and loyal servant for our club and I hope he can fight his way back. At 6' 2"and 106kg he can still make a contribution.

At $450k I agree with you - but on the highway to where? And if he can't be offloaded let's hope he can fire up!
