Recruitment for next year

Penrith have just released Soward (www.nrl.com)- basically the article says he is going to England although no details.

While he has a punchable face at times, this is a shame. For some reason I like watching him play, and I think he would be an excellent foil for Johnson. Great kicking game and plays structure well, plus when on form actually has a very good running game.

All reports on him is that he's way too emotional as a person. Form waivers up and down as a result.

Just wondering if there's been any talk re any major signings for us for next season? Not contract upgrades but actual new recruits who would expect to be in our top 17.

I'm guessing from our top 25 at the start of the year we've already lost Robson, TL, Henry. We swapped Lane for RFM, with Lane only signed up till end of this season. Unsure of Wrights contract but would be suprisef if he's here next season.

That's 3 definatel replacements needed, plus Lane and Wright to sort out? So upwards of 5 spots to fill. Can't be all filled by NSW Cup and 20's surely??

At this stage there will be no further 'major' signings for 2017. Looks like the eels winger and potentially one other.

But I suppose things change in the off season and players fall out of favour so you never know.

I'd rather we keep our powder dry. Some real quality coming off contract next year and I think we will be in a position to be able to accomodate some of them before June 30.

Yep, this. I'd rather focus on making sure we retain certain players (is Hingano off-contract this year or do we have an option? same question for Niukore.. plus a bunch of guys come off-contract the year after, including Johnson), maybe one or two squad spots to fill.. but I feel we've already got nearly all of those covered, even if all the off-contract wider squaddies leave.

The year after I'd probably be looking at one quality outside back plus anywhere from 1 to 3 quality forwards (depending on who leaves - Hoffman I'd guess will go, Matulino is a possibility too). At a glance, backs I'd look at; Rapana, SKD, Whare, Aitken. And forwards; Harris, Taumalolo, Vaughan, JWH. Who knows which of them are viable targets though..

and dont discount the british market. theres some good players there. look at whitehead and hodgson for raiders for example. whitehead has been a gun all year

God help us if we sign T-Rex. Asofa-Solomona would be awesome but i thought he was sewn up at the storm?

RTS will feel like a new signing

Hoffman would be good depending on price... and willingness to be considered only as a wing/centre.

Vaughan I'd love, Moa... has not had a happy year, but depending on price could be worth a shot. Tagataese, again dependent on price and length (both Moa & Tagataese are rumoured to be asking for much more than they're worth). Eastwood already re-signed didn't he? NAS would be amazing... various people keep saying he's not on the table (either already committed to Storm or Canes), but no statements have come about him actually signing anywhere... KBrom I'm not so enthused with - he's fine, but with Lisone, Vete, Sipley & Afoa here, I think we need more than just "fine" to go into the market in order to fill that slot (either more experience or more dominance, or more value/less expectations of first team footy like a Vaivai or a potential Papalii return).
