Recruitment for next year

Yep, this. I'd rather focus on making sure we retain certain players (is Hingano off-contract this year or do we have an option? same question for Niukore.. plus a bunch of guys come off-contract the year after, including Johnson), maybe one or two squad spots to fill.. but I feel we've already got nearly all of those covered, even if all the off-contract wider squaddies leave.

The year after I'd probably be looking at one quality outside back plus anywhere from 1 to 3 quality forwards (depending on who leaves - Hoffman I'd guess will go, Matulino is a possibility too). At a glance, backs I'd look at; Rapana, SKD, Whare, Aitken. And forwards; Harris, Taumalolo, Vaughan, JWH. Who knows which of them are viable targets though..

Matulino a possibility to leave? Only if we f**k up and give him a reason to IMO. Would've thought of our props Lilyman would be the most likely to call time and head home when his contract is up.

TBH Matulino has, at times, looked disinterested. Would be a great loss.
I would throw the bank at Reynolds.

IMO if they did get Foran for a year a premiership window is blown wide open. (in saying that its the Warriors). He clearly cannot command Parramatta money on this contract and where better to have a shot at redemption.

Sounds like BS to me, but if true, Cappy has no excuses for anything other than a top four finish and a prelim final at least. Foran is a disaster off field at the moment though.

Personally I'd chuck my money at the two Clearys

Wouldn't go near Foran to be honest - not sure the Telegraph is a great source, and surely there would be salary cap issues.

I do wonder what will happen to Benji - main problem for him seems to be he wants Cronk money when he's more Robson - he should have gone to Melbourne in the first place.

To me our squad is good, Hingano and or Lolohea are options at 6 - if Hingano is good, Clearly and Taylor have shown what's possible...

I'd throw the bank at a quality coach... Not sure Cappy has much excuse for not being top 4 this year, or at the very least top 6 - 6 seems to be the cutoff, teams above that are decent, teams below it not so much... Penrith are a bunch of juniors, so have an excuse, Gold Coast were meant to be last so have an excuse, Eels have been docked points so their fault - we don't have a reason

The Foran story is in the NZ Herald as well, looks like SBW invited him to Auckland to stay with him and help get his life back on track,if he did sign it would be for one year and I'm betting it wouldn't be the same money he was on before.

Vodafone Warriors managing director Jim Doyle has today responded to a media report linking Kiwi international Kieran Foran with a move to the club next season.

Commenting on a story published in Sydney's Daily Telegraph, Doyle said he had a personal relationship with Foran and had maintained contact with him for a number of years.

“I’ve talked to Kieran more regularly this year to offer support as he dealt with personal challenges he was facing. His wellbeing has been the focus,” he said.

“When Kieran decides he’s ready to resume his playing career, we’ll certainly be interested in talking to him further.”

Massive fan of Foran but do don't think he can alone fix the Warriors issues. The game against the Rabbits showed the Warriors need some size in the pack along with a couple of speedy wingers. Its no coincidence the four top teams have big forward pack. I would love the Warriors to look at players such as Vaughan, Solomona and Mead.

In regards to our cap space.. I know we pay big $$ to the usual suspects Johnson, RTS, Luke, Manu, Hoffman, Mannering and potentially Thompson (although he did come over for family reasons) but the rest of the players wouldnt be on much as they are all young-ish and local kids would they? Could it be conceivable that we have the cap space to make a play for Foran without having to actually shed anyone else? Not endorsing that we chase him but just a question..

Matulino wouldn't be cheap, Katas money will skyrocket as will Fusitua. You'd be letting upwards of 2-3 players leave to get him

The SBW links make me laugh, within a few months Foran would be converted to Islam and having a world title fight against McIvor

Just like we thought our premiership window was wide open this year?

If it's the same coach, the same poor selections and the same interested/disinterested players, then Kieran Foran won't make a difference. Kieran Foran wouldn't have helped us get belted on Saturday night. RTS and Luke didn't lift us for round one this year v an average Tigers side. Tommy has been going well the last few weeks and we look okay, but nowhere near the top 3 sides.

I think we can get it done without losing Matulino, Tui etc. Damaged goods means Foran will have to take unders, and there's guys we're shedding around the guys we're upgrading.

Having said that, we need a big name prop too. Vete looks like he's developing into a good third option but I still can't stand Lisone and the rubbish he brings at times. Gubb as we know is a haircut who makes 7m a carry and McFail refuses to blood Sipley as he should've.

I'm presuming essentially he would be getting the money allocated to TL for 2017.
Cap goes up in 2017 and a lot of talent / cap space off contract. The pack is only a one or two signings away from being good...
Premiership window definitely open in 2017 IMO.
I think they could possibly get Foran done without losing anyone next year and retaining Lolohea and Ata.

The reality is, that for a while now, although our pack can 'foot' it with other sides, they struggle to get themselves out of trouble. Once an opposition pack starts to dominate them, they don't have the firepower to wrestle back that lost momentum. More often than not, our forwards will sit back and let the wingers try and run them out of trouble.

A point of difference in the back row is long overdue.

Sipley absolutely must get game time next year.

Gubb and Lisone, as pointed out by PW are quite often largely ineffective. I'd be quite happy to see them leave or spend next year in reserves.

As well as Sipley, another hard running prop would not look out of place.

Do you think the premiership window is open under the same coaching structure?
How really does that relate to whether or not we should sign Foran though?
I'm most definitely dubious on Cappy but think adding Foran and one/two solid forward signings that would be the most talented Warriors roster ever.
Even if tactically and structurally Cappy sucks why not assemble that quality of team.
