Redcliffe Dolphins recruitment targets

Its true you can spend a lot of cap on marquee players without it actually being beneficial (looking at you Titans!). I guess you'd want a decent game changing back from the start ideally and they are the ones that come with the marquee tag.
They've done a great job recruiting in the pack imo but the backs look pretty avg and thats where they could really do with a name, in the spine. I am surprised they have still got $1.4 plus mill unspent in the cap, must have picked up some bargains.

Their forward pack is ok. I think you are banking on them to be a hard nosed, disciplined side and grabbing a few wins that way.

There is nothing in that backline unless the Hammer proves himself a masterstroke at fullback that would keep me up at night if I were an opposition coach

Titans on paper are woeful... they got captain prop playing lock, got a fulback at 5/8th, dropped foggerty for a cup side halfback, only thing they got is presto jr.. hammer beats him anyday of the week
Bulldogs will have Rheed Mahoney and kiks, along with burto and the rest yeah maybe they jump the dolphins..
Brisbane have bugger all defence, they rely heavily on reynold kicks, and carrigans finger pointing... when they are busted so to are the bronx, only saving grace they had was TMM at fullback, very underrated....
Manly lost the only composed player they had, Foran.. DCE goes missing most games, and turbo plays half a season, due to injuries, the rest are no name blacktown boys who need to step up or they also go missing

Manly don’t have much depth so totally agree with that but if (that’s a big if obviously) Turbo and DCE stay fit they are a top 8 side. Their forward pack is a bit rubbish though.

Brisbane should make the 8 next year. You’d prefer Walsh, Mamm and Reynolds in your spine if you were the Dolphins. You also have Staggs, Cobbo and Farnsworth that would walk into the Dolphins side as well as Hass and Carrigan in the forwards. The Dolphins have better second rowers, hooker and bench forwards.

On the Titans, Fermor, Fifita (despite being massively overpaid), Fotiaka (spelling?) and Tino would walk into the Dolphins forward pack whilst I’d prefer Campbell (Hammer could usurp him but he hasn’t played much fullback), Brimson or Foran over Milford, Fifita junior or Marzhew over both the Dolphins wingers and probably Kelly over Brenko Lee. Verills is probably better than JMK too.

14th is a pass. Below that is disappointing, above it is positive and arguably over achieving.

Yeah that's good and there's still a chance that they could pull off another signing or 2. The hammer could develop into the marque player with 80 minutes of fullback every week too.
We'll see.
It's exciting, they've picked players who haven't been given a lot of opportunities. It's the big break a lot of these guys were hoping for. It's great to see.

If they finished 16th, it's a pass. Why would they have to finish above 7 established clubs to be given a pass?
That makes no sense.
They need to be competitive each week- pass. NRL quality.
Sorry I was thinking SL lol. 14th is a pass.

Only one new club has finished bottom in its first year. That dubious honour goes to the Cowboys.

Most recent Clubs admission (readmission) finishing positions year 1
Storm 3/20
Warriors 10/20
Reds 11/20
Titans 12/16
Souths 14/15
Giants 15/16
Crushers 16/20
Cowboys 20/20

Go back further...
Bronx/Nites/Giants= 7th/3rd last/2nd last
Canberra/Illawarra = Last/2nd last
Cronulla/Penrith = Last/2nd last
Parra/Manly = Last/2nd last
Canterbury = 2nd last
St.George = 3rd last

expansion has never been about a brand new team busting out of the blocks and braining it 1st season, its about adding more to the existing comp...if we kept adding more new teams that had 3-4 years lead up and a whole heap of concessions... the other clubs wouldnt vote for any more new teams due to them getting the best players, and outpricing anyone at crunch time... nobody.. ABSOLUTELY nobody asks for expansion then lets the new team dictate these conditions... sink or swim MFs.. its the only fair way... and it gets the new club to build properly without expecting handouts

That’s the thing about the dolphins they could start off slowly but they have their leagues clubs and shopping centre to help find them and their juniors will develop into nrl players

it’s why a Perth nrl team should be delayed until the game can afford to tip in an extra 5 or 10 million pa to make them viable

bennett had the qld origin side in 88 plus Lazarus and they still missed the semis and didn’t win their first grand final for four years

Perth doesn't need lead up time, they have the money, sponsors, stadium etc... they have everything but junior talent that can rival the rest

This line gets thrown around a bit but is flat out wrong. Broncos had 4 qld reps in 1988 and 7 in 1989. Lazarus didn't join them until 1992 either. They had quite a few brl journeymen and a couple of players from Sydney looking for a chance at 1st grade in their early years

They will struggle for players and can’t rely upon juniors

it will take funding like the storm had and the arlc aren’t giving them any salary cap exemptions

players won’t want to go there like afl players struggle to stay at the nsw and qld clubs
