The NSW Cup is a far better proposition than Reserve Grade imo. The difference is more than subtle when you consider
what the competition could be used for. Reserves are made up of players recovering from injury or misdemeanors or
just emergency men. These days we are swayed by 'if you're good enough you're old enough' so the NYC has done what
U/23's couldn't and leapfrog Reserves.

Florimo's wet dreaming about shoe-horning another sardine side into a national competition that should leave the NSW
bandaid strip behind would be better served by a full on shot at the NSW Cup. I've long been an advocate of creating an
NRL team from the Western Plains of NSW but a team made up of players from Groups 10 & 11 would also give the Cup a shake.

Countless numbers of players such as a future Jamie Lyon would come to the public's attention far quicker if a country
team was in a televised competition. Imo a Cup team would not have to be a feeder for an NRL team, although it has it's
advantages, if they were backed by an area that knew they deserved recognition as a League stronghold and had a point to prove.

Also, as has been mentioned before by others, what better way for an area to show it's wares if a potential position did become available
when the NRL decides hand feeding endangers survival of the fittest

Always thought Gasnier was just an NRL centre, no better or worse than the majority running around, but I am surprised to find him
imo a worthy League analyst. Unlike Matty Johns or Geyer to name a couple he doesn't suffer from verbal diarrhea, something I'm
often accused of, so anything he says is worth a listen.

Gasnier talks of the 'third man in' and the consequences, something we know is coached because it's not illegal yet and is an effective
inhibitor. I'm not sure banning the third man entirely is the answer but penalising a third man that was not committed to the tackle at
the same time as the first and second man is worth looking at.

Anderson may render the third man obsolete if his promise to bring consistency in refreeing eventuates. He says referees can't rule on
the wrestle but can speed up the play the ball, so practicing a count to 3 after 'held' is imperative. Sounds simple but some refs seem
to have brain to mouth coordination problems.

All comes back to 'held'. If every tackler knows the only move he can make after he hears it is release a lazy third man won't have time.
Hesitant referees are indirectly causing as many injuries as the third man.

Having read through post after post, digesting the content, rationale and suggested outcomes. Having thought long and hard about the hours and hours of critical thinking Popeye has devoted to this thread, I can only think of one question that has repeatedly come to mind, which has me wondering if there are serious problems in the relationship.

Is Olive doing okay?

What exactly did Gasnier say on the matter, and in what context?

The third defender would be an interesting aspect for the refereeing group to tackle in this coming season. All too often we are seeing defenders who show up fashionably late into the ruck and give the first and second tacklers a nice back rub, and in the process needlessly slowing the ruck down. Their tardiness is handsomely rewarded by stolidly unwilling officials.

Is there now the prospect that Daniel Anderson in his role is looking to eradicate this?

Gasnier basically says the damage the third man is doing is equal to or greater than shoulder charges. Anderson apparently doesn't
want to get drawn into the wrestle presumably because he doesn't want to point the finger at any clubs so he rightly is going to focus
on keeping the tackling process short and sweet. When you think about it, if two tacklers still haven't tied the ball up then the third
man is probably justified but the referee is the one who should determine when the ball can't be passed and therefore penalise any
further involvement,

apart from a couple of obvious 3rd man in tackles that have been dangerous (hayne et all), plus the likelihood someone with little grey matter will actually cause some real damage what are the statistics from anyone actually being hurt by this?
There would be no need for a 3rd man if refs called held at the right time. They seem loathe to do that if there is still forwrd momentum - which gains a few meatures granted - but its painfully obvious sometimes there is going to be no other advantage...1 & 2 (if they do it tright) have wrapped up the ball & prevented offloads (by going in high). agree it shouldn't be called held if that is a possibility but so often its not, yet held is not called - it seems players need to ground someone before that happens...leaving no option but for a 3rd man to come in low to bring a guy down. this will only change if the refs are clear when they need to call held.
frustrating - another rule that needs some consistency

I would have thought my 2 or 3 posts a day spartan compared to most and there's a reason for that . . . hate to clutter up a forum with 25k tins of rubbish

The Hopoate sob story in the Herald is well done in an effort to garnish sympathy, his manager even arranged a photo of personal
training, hope the young bloke realises the error of his ways. Although I'm not convinced Leilua's fall from grace wasn't contrived
after he saw how others break a contract, imo deregistering players is not the answer.

If the ARLC wanted to send a message to players who were tagged as responsible for bringing the game into disrepute they should
put them on a kind of parole. Allowed to play for match appearances only for 12 months and no contracts allowed until good behaviour
nullified the bad. A year of uncertainty would send a stronger message than a slap on the wrist. A club could retain such a player
and repay the salary cap at a later date for services rendered

LOL! [a man who loves the sound of his own voice]. As a supporter of Melbourne I and everyone know we tried to buy our premierships from 06 to 09 and got caught! "something I'm ashamed of ".... The silliest thread of all time and I'm sure all would agree!

While the idea sounds excellent i don't see the RLPA even entertaining such ideas, infact if any new game rules affect player payments negatively i will eat my own head and post it on YouTube

Your are either an Eagles supporter pretending to be a Storm supporter or a Storm supporter that wants to be an Eagles supporter. [Unlike yours, Stewarts tongue in cheek experience didn't end up in crap.]
