We also had a Dally M winner and a bloke robbed of a jersey on the 03 Kangaroo tour in Preston Campbell.

Martin Lang and Ben Ross played origin for QLD while Joel Clinton played for Australia.

Alongside Preston only Luke Swain and Shane Rodney never played origin or internationals and Rodney played a few games for City.

Obviously a team of f**king nuffies.

Yeah I was wondering about Clinton, Ross and Lang, I thought they might have a couple games between them. That makes 14 out of 17 in the GF side that played rep footy or went to rep footy.

Kearney was a crap coach but he wasn't promising short term results. He was talking of a long term path to winning and Ricky Stuart isn't promising anything greater or quicker than Kearney did.

If next year is as bad as this year will Ricky be sacked? If not what logic is there in sacking Kearney but not sacking Stuart after the same sort of results.
Kearney recruitments: Chris Sandow, Ben Roberts, Darcy Lussick. Stuart recruitments: Corey Norman, Lee Mossop, Gareth Hock. That's the difference.

UM OK..
Not sure what that has to do with Ricky Stuart and his woeful coaching record.

Those juniors would want to be signed up if they are any good.
I doubt they will want to play for a coach who is not going to help their career.
Willie Tonga, Ben Roberts, Ben Smith and Reni Maitua aint young juniors for a start.

When Ricky coached my team I sat there and watched us lose every home game bar 1 a couple of seasons ago.
He set records for consecutive losses.
That was with rep players in the team.
You also sat and watched your side come equal first and make a prelim final. Dam shame about Greg Bird and Brett Seymour - but was that Sticky's doing or the boards? With Seymour and Bird in, you possibly make the GF.

If the club takes their best player out of a team that comes equal first, and then blames the coach and demands results - what do you f*cking expect? Cronulla's board hs been the NRL basket case since the Chris Anderson days.
C'mon 'ol mate, can't let that one pass. Sticky should have won 4 gf's with the team Little Artie left him, instead his coaching ignorance caused them to wither on the vine. Ironically, Stuart is a perfect fit for the Eels, can't f**k up something that's f**ked
If the team was that good, how come Little Artie never won anything you twat??????

Penrith's side was sh*t hot. Canterbury's was built around a salary cap breach. You lost both GF's narrowly. He was the most sucessful coach you had since the 1930's bar one.

I love how people pick and choose where they give credit to coaches.

Because people hate Stuart they give him no credit for keeping that Roosters team up to a high enough standard to make 3 consecutive grand finals and win one. Only Melbourne has been able to stay at the top for three straight years in recent times by cheating.

Didn't he take an ordinary Sharks side pretty far one year as well? Not entirely familiar with the situation there but I remember him having some good with the bad.

He at least deserves another year at Parra to prove himself given the shit team he started with

If my memory serves me well, in 2006 Cronulla looked set to make the 8 and dropped their last 10? games and fell out of it, they sacked Raper and took on Sticky.

In 2007 they missed the 8 again but a few wins, but had some ridiculous record where they won 2 games and lost 10 games by less than 10 points.

It was clear the potential was there for season 2008 where they finished third, although the drama with Bird occurred in August and he was stood down for the finals. You have to wonder how they would have done in the 2008 finals if that didn't happen, there were times where Cronulla looked like they could win the comp.

In 2009 a lot of off field stuff derailed the season (Matty Johns, CEO decking a staff member, Reni taking a fat stripper, etc).

In 2010 they would have fought it out with the Cowboys for the spoon had the Storm not had their points docked. Sticky left mid season.

Yeah you gotta give a year now, it would be harsh to punt him after this season, I mean they are moving on half their squad, gotta let him build something.

Its just they have been losing badly, they dont have the cattle obviously so the losses are kind of irrelevant imo but not the way the lose. Theres no discipline, effort is lacking as well as confidence. If he can't instill some of that into the team and have them atleast playing better if not winning by midseason id be punting him.

Fair enough. From the outside it seems he has a very intense style that can work on the right playing group, but wore thin after a few years at each of his previous clubs

Parramatta are doing about as well as everyone predicted they would when Ricky came out and told 12 of his roster that they were gone for next year a few weeks back.

I'm not doubting that they needed to go as their is a lot of fail in that roster, but surely Parra fans can now see that coming out publicly half way through the year and dumping half your list is not really the way to go about getting the most out of what you have for this year.

Just a dumb way to go about orchestrating change and it would have left a bad taste in the mouths of those who are sticking around as well.

He isn't good at acquiring the right cattle, but if he has the right cattle to start with he does a good job, which is why I think Parramatta wasn't a good job for him to take.

In the end it didn't make a difference. Aside from the first few weeks of the season our attitude has been shit, we have a losing culture that has been cultivated since 2008, telling a bunch of players they aren't wanted hasn't affected our season. We were getting thrashed before that meeting and after. Add to the fact that it was pretty obvious a culling was going to go down, in any job when an employee is under performing the most likely scenario is that they are going to be sacked, especially if they are also bringing their co-workers down with them.

Furthermore, Reni Matiua has stated that he was told before the group meeting that he wasn't wanted anymore, so that gives us the hint that players were aware of the nature of the meeting going into it.

Stuart is a f**king dud. End of story. Won a comp with Uncle Nick's chequebook and has done f**k all else in a decade and a bit of coaching. A coach who picked Ennis ahead of Farah sums up the sort of turd this inept clown is. Parra and the incompetent fool are a match made in heaven. I missed the press conference was last night's result dueto the refs' interpretation of the ruck, Denis Fitzgerald, or the fact the loss of Casey Maguire and Chris Walker in the off season was too much to overcome. Joke coach at a joke club.

At the start of the year, I'd have reckoned that most people thought the Panthers had a worse (or at least roughly equivalent) roster than the eels. On top of that they have had a shocking run with injury. They have bought several new players for next year so it's obvious to an outsider that a few of this years crop will be playing for someone else next year.

How are they going atm?

Perhaps Ricky Stuart could get on the phone to Ivan Cleary and learn a thing or two about man management? Cleary would also be on half the bickies that sticky would be earning...

Penrith always had a better roster than us this year, our roster this year is worst than our wooden spoon winning roster last year. We lost experienced players such as Hindmarsh, Burt, Shackleton, Horo, Poore and replaced them with Darcy Lussick and Daniel Harrison.

Penrith has much more depth than we do and more importantly they have a spine that actually has some skill and can play coherently. We only have Hayne at the back and Sandow at halfback, Keating is the worst hooker in the competition and our five eight has been a rotation of Ben Roberts, Luke Kelly and Joseph Paulo. Any team is going to struggle when park footballers are the best players you have for key positions, which is why we haven't improved at all this year compared to last.

For those of you trying to stick up for a Ricky coached shark team
Let me remind of this

Play off for the grand final
Storm minus Cameron smith v sharks
Storm win 28 nil

1 week later
Des coached team v storm minus Cameron Smith
Des wins 40 nil

All 3 ended on the same points at the end of the season.

False dawn that coming equal 1st business

Please!!

Thats BS and you know it. Maybe in hindsight, but I can guarantee you that in round 1, many people thought they'd be a lock for the spoon.

This year was always going to be a write off, especially when the NRL f*cked us around with Folau. With a class outside back, even after a month or two to find his feet and develop combinations, some of our results woud have been different. The Cowboys game especially. Hayne is also a massive loss - he won the Broncos game for us.

Our backrow is insipid in defence, our hooker and 5/8 are huge weak spots in attack, and we have young players with plenty of mistakes. In the flip ide I am happy with Sandow, but God he needs a ball playing pivot with a low mistake rate, which is why I am so keen on Norman coming. Apart from Sandow, Hayne and Mannah, we have no mid-career players with experience to do their job. The criticism of backline defence is justified, but simply we are using players that are not FG ready - a big injury toll will do that. Ask Wests.

Waiting for the police conspiracy to crop up!

2 grand finals, equal first with a poverty ridden club with no CEO, and the last Blues series win. Not a bad resume.

BTW, Chris Walker retired a year before Sturt came you f*cking idiot :lol:

Lol. just lol!

True. Confidence is down at the club. Its not much better at Wests, NQ or the Dragons tbh.

Moron - he probably did. Cleary had a cleanout too - Jennings, Gordon, Lewis remember?

As for wages - what would you know? What would you care?

Penrith was widely tipped to get the spoon but tharlt was driven by the clueless f**ks at the telecrap. We always had a better squad the Parra.

Round 1 Penrith:
1.Dean Whare
2.Josh Mansour
3.Wes Naiqama
4.Geoff Daniela
5.David Simmons
6.Lachlan Coote
7.Luke Walsh
8.Sam McKendry
9.Kevin Kingston
10.Tim Grant
11.Sika Manu
12.Lewis Brown
13.Nathan Smith
14.James Segeyaro
15.Nigel Plum
16.Clint Newton
17.Jeremy Latimore

Round 1 Parramatta:
1.Jarryd Hayne
2.Ken Sio
3.Jacob Loko
4.Ryan Morgan
5.Cheyse Blair
6.Luke Kelly
7.Chris Sandow
8.Darcy Lussick
9.Matt Keating
10.Tim Mannah
11.Reni Matiua
12.Ben Smith
13.Joseph Paulo
14.Ben Roberts
15.Fui Fui Moi Moi
16.Mitchell Allgood
17.Matthew Ryan

IMO aside from the absurdity of Whare at fullback that Penrith side is stronger as a whole. If those two teams went head to head round 1 Penrith would have scrapped the win.

Penrith tried to keep Gordon, we were just outbid by the Sharks. Ivans first year in charge of us wasnt great, we started with a few floggings at home iirc and finished near the bottom, see wbere the Eels are at this time next year before deciding on Ricky.
