Nah. They're useless. Rugby league fans aren't unique. There's a surge of complaints in the Rugby World Cup at the moment because some of their laws are shithouse too. It's the NRL's fault - they are a f**ked organisation who only operate as a reactive entity, and clearly are not facilitating a referees system that prepares people to adjudicate the game properly.

Its part of RL culture to blame the refs any time your team looses a close game. Don't worry about Joey not passing to an open winger or Tapine having his back turned for the first roosters try or Joey not getting back in the defensive line for the last try ... No, its all the refs fault.
A lot has to do with negative commentary *cough Gus Could Gough* who spends the majority of the game bagging the refs and the game. I can't think of a commentator in any sport who spends so much time rubbishing the game. In any other sport they accept the refs decision and move on.

I didn't day that it was acceptable. It was, quite obviously, bizarrely incompetent. But to the hysterical articles and pundits claiming it was the worst thing to ever happen in a big game, and there have been quite a few skating close to that, well it wasn't really.
The Nrl needs to look at how the 2 referees + video ref function together, and has needed to for a long time. But mindless hysteria doesn't solve anything.

And yes, we would give a shit if the Roosters got shafted...or I would. Because it's the ongoing incompetence of the referees that we always said could decide a GF, and gee they did their best to do so.

Pretty much. The thread title is RIP Rugby League. The great game is a hollowed out shell of what it once was.

Gone is the triblesim, brutality, flare and off the cuff creativity and all that is left are fines and suspensions for slapping, hair pulling with boring wrestling and mechanised robots the likes of Cooper Cronk to hold aloft as "immortal in waiting". The management of RL is hastening it's own demise.

If the ref had correctly signalled last tackle what would have changed ? When Wighton got the ball the raiders had no structure, he was back peddling and 25 m out from the line. Even the most optimistic Raiders fan would admit the Roosters probably had a kick covered.

The Raiders had all the attacking ball in the second half and even against 12 men they couldn't score, blaming the refs that they didn't get the chance to put in a desperate last tackle kick is a pretty cheap way out. I'd be blaming the Roosters defence for the loss, not the refs.
