I read that too, but I think you're declaring the apocalypse a bit soon. I've only seen it in one media outlet where it has been cut and pasted into several different articles. Has the original author simply misinterpreted the fact the NSWRL and CRL are moving into the same building as meaning they're merging (when in fact they are not)? It'd be kind of strange for something as big as this to go totally unmentioned prior to today if it were really happening. There's certainly no actual quotes from anybody official saying this is happening.

I was under the impression that the CRL & NSWRL are in the same building but still maintain their own operation under the auspices of the ARLC.

It's just so the resources can be shared and great communication and oversight.

That said I still dispute the notion that, in an age of tele-conferencing and jet travel, we need three boards and executive staff (NSWRL, CRL and QRL) to run Rugby League below the professional level. It's a needless duplication of management when that function could be performed just as well by the ARLC and the money saved better spent on more development officers actually working on the ground out in the bush.

Is it okay to feel this excited? I mean I cannot wait to see what comes out of this and FINALLY we are going to be doing what is best for the game. But, will they actually do it?

and another thing, along with fixing up the reserve grades and such, IT IS TIME FOR A WOMEN'S RUGBY LEAGUE COMPETITION. the amount of interest and money to be had in this is astounding. I know of 6 female friends who would play Rugby League and not to mention the girls just played out a ten-all draw in their own all stars clash. Not only is it realistic and possible, it is easily placed into what we consider the 'norm' today.

26 rounds, 2 bye weekends, 6 clubs (one from Victoria, one from ACT, two from NSW and two from QLD), each saturday game day events will show the NYC clash, WRL clash, NRL clash. That accounts for all six squads, all playing on a saturday arvo/evening, hopefully playing with their home state team or at the venues. A two week finals system, with the top four advancing, a play off happening, then a two week break and voilà you have an even better grand final day. NYC, WRL, NRL.

Each NRL club should have a women's team. Just like each NRL club has a NYC team and most have SG Ball / Harold Matthews.

Their budgets have to be justified to the ARLC (who will be paying them) now so that will help to encourage minimum streamlined management expenses and maximum grassroots development.

I think you can view them more as just managers for each region working for the ARLC.

you forgettting the WARL,VRL,SARL,NTRL and TasRL?

I do agree that there is a lot of things that centralised national services could help with that reduce costs such as marketing, merchandise, insurance, etc etc. there is always greater savings in bulk!

I guess the counterbalance to that is ensuring that areas aren't overlooked by central management.

Um, the CRL and NSWRL have shared the same building for as long as I can remember, at Phillips Street. So that is not a new thing. I haven't spoken to any CRL people yet because I haven't had a chance but if it is true that we have to merge with the NSWRL that can't be good. It can't be true. No one would agree to it. The CRL would sooner switch to union.

Well?

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the situation as I see it:

ANZ:
SFS - Sydney Cricket Ground Trust
Mt Smart -
Dairy Farmers -
Lang - QRL
Robina - Queensland Government
Hunter - Newcastle City Council
Grahame - Gosford City Council
Brookvale - Warringah Council
Leichhardt - Leichhardt Council
Parramatta - NSW State Government
Penrith -
Campbelltown - Campbelltown Council
Kogarah - Kogarah Council
Cronulla - Cronulla Leagues (Football club?)
WIN -
Canberra - ACT Government
AAMI - Victorian Government

Some are probably administered by a different entity than the owner. I think Parra Stadium is owned by the council but is administered by the SCG trust.

It would be interesting to know who are the stakeholders in our grounds.

Stadiums QLD or whatever they're called own Lang Park and the GC and T'ville stadiums I think mate.

Wonder if anything would change if NSW brought in a Stadiums QLD equivalent.

Parramatta Stadium Trust owns Parramatta Stadium which is under the NSW Government.

Penrith is owned by the Penrith City Council.

And I think ANZ is under the Olympic Stadiums Trust or Stadium Australia trust.

TT, the trust has run PS since day one. I always assumed they owned it, but in doing this thread I remembered that Cumberland was always owned by Parramatta Council, and do not remember ownership changing hands. I do recall John Browne the Labor federal minister for sport giving lots of $ for the project and going a long way to making it happen.

EDIT - Parramatta Stadium Trust runs the venue on behalf of the NSW Government.

ANZ - NSW Govt (Sydney Olympic Park Authority). Currently under a long term finance lease owned by Diversified Infrastructure Trust, an investment fund managed by ANZ.
SFS - NSW Govt through the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust
Mt Smart - Auckland Council
Dairy Farmers - Qld Govt managed by Stadiums Queensland
Lang - Qld Govt managed by Stadiums Queensland
Robina - Qld Govt managed by Stadiums Queensland
Hunter - NSW Govt through Venues NSW
Grahame - Managed by Singleton, not sure about ownership.
Brookvale - Warringah Council
Leichhardt - NSW Govt managed by Leichhardt Council (subsequently leased and managed by Balmain)
Parramatta - NSW Govt through Venues NSW
Penrith - NSW Govt managed by Penrith Council (assume subsequently leased and managed by Penrith Panthers)
Campbelltown - Campbelltown Council (unclear if directly or through NSW Govt trust)
Kogarah - NSW Govt managed by Kogarah Council (subsequently leased and managed by St George Leagues Club)
Cronulla - Cronulla Sharks (not sure the exact arrangement, but I beleive the leagues club owns the freehold land and football club owns the leasehold improvements)
WIN - NSW Govt through Venues NSW
Canberra - ACT Government
AAMI - Victoria Government through the Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust
