National Rugby League Semi-Finalist Decided

August 29th, 2012
From Romeo Monteith, JARLA

Duhaney Park Red Sharks won the JRLA League Leaders Trophy today with a 36-28 result over a fighting Jamaica Defense Force team at Up Park Camp last Saturday. The soldiers held 20-6 half time lead, but failed to hold on, as a furious second half rally saw the Reds rush to an exciting 36-28. After completing their 7 regular season games the Reds are on 19 points, three more than second place Vauxhall Rugby Club.

Happy Birthday Rugby League!

August 30th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Today marks the 117th birthday of Rugby League. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Yes 117 years ago, in 1895 on the 29th of August 22 clubs in northern England broke away from the Rugby Football Union and formed the Northern Union. The issue was over broken time payments. Players in the north were mainly working class and worked in the factories and mines. Any injuries incurred often meant that they could not work, thus not be paid and the family suffered. Clubs, rich from the large crowds saw the value of at least paying players a match fee to compensate for this, broken time payments. This was seen as professionalism by the rich southern clubs which were essentially all run by the upper class. This came to a head in 1895 and eventually the situation became untenable.

Science and Sport Together

August 31st, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Over the last few years I have been privileged to meet many people in Rugby League. Whether they are players administrators or just crazy fans who love the game and will follow it anywhere, I certainly fall under that last category. However, something that I have come to realise is that no matter how much we all love the sport and try to be on top of it, no matter how many forums there essentially its very difficult to know exactly what one federation or country is doing in one part of the world to another part of the world. Certainly there is also much ignorance between many fans of Rugby League and some administrators out there who go and make rules and decision for their own benefit without actually realising what the wider implications will be for the sport. So how in the world can you change this?

How about an International Conference on Rugby League!

Putting Your Money Where your Mouth is

AUG 31ST, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Often I read on various sources people complaining about this and that subject. In particular I pay most attention to the International Game, and how its image and exposure can be improved. Very often I have come across people that have great ideas, but seem not to take any initiative to try and get them off the ground. Sometimes if someone wants to support the international game or a nation its just a matter of literally putting your money where your mouth is. There are various membership packages out there that anyone can be involved with and help in a small way the development of the game internationally.

Have a look at this!

September 1st, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

First up, A big thanks to Jovan Vujesovic for showing me this and allowing me to write something about it!

The Challenge Cup weekend and the RLEF AGM threw up a lot of things to consider and ponder. I got to meet members from all the European nations playing Rugby League, I got to sit in Club Wembley to watch the game and I also was able to go to the post game function and meet the players. I also held the actual Challenge Cup Trophy!

That's fantastic. Such a shame that things weren't able to progress in those countries, we could have a legit international scene now had RU not been able to have their way.

One point though, unless there was some extremely strange naming going on at the time I'm pretty sure the Italian team has listed the players with the surnames first. So Giovanni is probably their first names and the Keinhorsts don't have anything to worry about :)

You know that is an interesting point, either way it needs to be looked at and checked.

It still provides a nice bit of debate though, don't you think :)

I love when things like this pop up out of no where.

I'm 99.99% sure that the team is listed surname-first. Otherwise it's the equivalent to the entire team having names like 'Johnson David' and 'Meyers Brad'.

This is the sort of stuff that needs to be shown the the general public. It has the potential to boost the international status of the game.

Absolutely, this cannot be lost.
Amazing the Yugoslav stuff from 55 & 60, is there any work planned for Croatia?

I'll talk with Jovan and suggest a few things. The Yugoslav stuff certainly needs to be in Huddersfield at least,

But maybe the Aus v Italy stuff can be donated to the new RL museum in Sydney?

Has anyone been out there that has seen if they have anything like that?

Colonial Cup 2012 Teams Announced

September 6th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

The teams for this years annual Colonial Cup series between the USA Tomahawks and Canada Wolverines have been announced. Also I have come across some interesting articles, history wise once again, via our good friend Steve Mascord. He posted an article written by Lyle Beaton on the French Domestic competition back in the 1950’s. Also things have got to the point in PNG where the government have stepped in to sort things out there and get the sport back to its number 1 spot.

Thinking outside the Box: Smith

September 8th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Last week was a week of turmoil at the Sydney Roosters. Their coach, Brian Smith was given the boot after another dismal season by the Chooks. The players at the Roosters found out about the sacking through a text message and looks like former player Trent Robinson will come in as the new coach. Robinson is at Catalans and has done a great job there to get the team into the top 4 of the Super League. But the question now remains, what will happen to Smith? What will Brian do now? There is some talk of him going to the Warriors but how about some out of the box thinking for Brian?
