Canada Wolverines 24 – 28 USA Tomahawks

The opening game of the 2012 Colonial Cup was an absolute thriller. Rain all day had threatened to make the game messy. The rain cleared up but the ground was wet and the ball was slippery. It showed in the opening half of the game.

Winter is Coming

October 30th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

In the words of the Stark’s “Winter’s coming”. Maybe in the Game of Thrones this mean that the white walkers are coming to wreak havoc but at least in the Rugby League worlds it means that the International Season is in full swing. Yes you guess it I have been watching a bit of game of thrones recently reason being (Aside from lots of work) a back injury has had me layed up in bed the last week with not much else to do. International Rugby League is in full swing with many games being played across several continents. So a quick catch up on the scores and some of the more interesting news to come out of the cracks.

Vanuatu Shines as the New Kid

November 5th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

The end of the year is the international season for Rugby League, this year though has a very different flavour to it. Two regulars, Australia and New Zealand have decided to take a break, but this has allowed some of the new kids on the block to shine. One of the most exciting to arrive is Vanuatu, which has been a passion of International Rugby League Stalwart Dane Campbell. Vanuatu took on Greece in Port Villa in front of over 3,000 fans but lost 14 – 26 in a tight match. Dane has been kind enough to talk a bit about the VRL and his future endeavours.

Rugby League Reforming Youth

November 6th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

One of the nicer things I get to do with my line of work is that I travel and have the opportunities to meet new people in Rugby League. I of course refer to my physics work and this week have been in Providence, Rhode Island at a conference. Of course Providence is the home of the Rhode Island Rebellion owned and run by Lawrence Almagno. However, what is probably less known is that, through Lawrence as the USARL’s youth director, the American Youth Rugby League Association is also based in Providence. This gave me an opportunity to find out a bit more on what AYRLA is and what its doing to get the youth of Rhode Island and America to play Rugby League. So I caught up with Michael Kelly the Chief Financial Officer for AYRLA.

What The?!

November 7th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Once again it seems that for all the good that Rugby League does, the steps forward it makes, it then seems to take several steps back. England tied up the European Tri-Nations this weekend against France with a big 44-6 win. Izzy Folau came back to the NRL this week, leaving the AFL after being less than successful in that code. However its the referee situation in the NRL that has me scratching my head once again.

Disasters and Rugby League

November 10th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

As all of you know, Tropical Storm Sandy hit the east coast if the United States last week. Many people have been effected by the storm predominantly along the shore line in New Jersey and Long Island New York. Fortunately myself, my house in Princeton was left with only cosmetic damage and I myself was in Rhode Island where the storm was not so ban and was able to ride it out. But there are thousands who are not so lucky and one of them is New York Knight player Fitzjames Adams and his community. The New York Knights and the Australian Bar will be hosting a fund raiser in Manhattan this Saturday to help them out. So if you are in Manhattan this weekend, make sure to make it out to the Australian Bar. Also the Remembrance Cup, in honour of the 9/11 bombing makes a return in las Vegas this weekend, hosted by the AMNRL teams from the west coast, British Columbia and Australia will be participating.

South Africa Plays on

November 23rd, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

A lot has been happening over the weekend and fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you see it) is revolves around International Rugby League. I see it as fortunate as it keeps the games international growth in the eye of the fans and media, however there are still some very interesting attitudes about International rugby League out there. But some news, where this thread started first is with the final of the Autumn international. Also a bit of news from the USA and World Cup and South Africa.
