Heartlands Win Out in World Cup Draw

March 23RD, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Today the 2013 Rugby League World Cup venues have been released. In a fairly conservative move the heartlands of Rugby League in England have been chosen over a few new cities looking to promote the sport more. While all this is taking place, underhandedly the Aussies once agin show that they are bullies in the sport and are looking to undermine the sport internationally. Also in Australia there are worrying reports of the financial troubles of the Gold Coast Titans. There are reports that the team may fold but the question, however is, is this such a bad thing? It will be a test for the New ARL commission in more ways than one.

While we Wait!

April 2nd, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Once again I need to apologise for being away for a while. With my new job and moving to Princeton I have a lot on my plate and time is a precious commodity. Also I am preparing for a job interview! Anyway as we all know, last week the venues for the group stages were announced, yet we still await on the semis and final announcement. Much debate has gone on about which city should get it and I have been thinking about it and so thought I would put in my two bobs worth. Also an interesting thing i found searching through various League websites, well two of the USA ones anyway and found, well an anomaly.

Immortals Show Guts Against the Marines

April 29th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

New England Immortals 12 – 68 Royal Marines

Despite the scoreline the New England Immortals put up one hell of a fight for the Marines. This was the first hit up for many of the New England based players and on a freezing night, literally it was almost at freezing, and the 100 or so fans that braved the arrival of a late winter saw a very skillful and entertaining match from both team.

Controversy in Oz Shows Big Problems with TGG

APR 29TH, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Once again, it’s been a while since I posted last. The new job has been taking up most of my time with lots of exciting new projects as well I have been interviewing for Professorships. But the Rugby League world continues on and a lot has happened in the last few weeks, but one of the most important and controversial issues once again involves the selection process of players for the international teams. But it not so much the selection that is the issue but the attitude many fans have taken with it… including fans of the international game. So today I want to make some commentary on several issues. It will be a long-ish post and I apologise in advance.

International Rugby League Takes Centre Stage

May 6th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

This week there have been many exciting announcements in International Rugby league. The venues for the last two rounds of the World Cup have been announced and though no real surprises in the end a very good choice has been made. More news on the World Club Challenge also came out this week with the expansion looking like a likely event. Plus some interesting news to come out from Australia with the NRL which harks back to one of my previous articles and comments from readers last week.

Grand Prix Entertainment: What Does it Mean for Rugby League in the USA?

May 18th, 2012
By Daniel Andruczyk

Last weeks news of the acquisition of the American national Rugby League by Grand Prix Entertainment group has been one of the big pieces of news to come out of the United States since they qualified for the Rugby league World Cup in 2013 last autumn in Chester, New Jersey. For years we all have stood on the sidelines waiting in anticipation, every time we heard an announcement that there was going to be a professional competition in the United States and that the competition will grow and become professionalized. And for so many years we have been disappointed. To the point where many of the team in early 2011 were so frustrated by this that they broke away to form their own competition.

Yep I had to do a double take on it as well, but is is in the Bosnia-Herzegovina federation which from the looks of it is like a union of two nations in the old Yugoslavia. It has a large Serb population hence the targeting I think.

I am looking forward to seeing what will come of it personally. May be a good local rivalry.
