Can't believe I used to respect Ray Warren.

As soon as rugby league is away from Channel Nine and that old nitwit the better.

The UK is awash with positivity and publicity regarding the World Cup, I've never seen anything like this for RL before in this country. Features on national news, radio, and even mainstream media who usually ignore RL are promoting the tournament, and so far it's pretty much all been positive. The only ones I've seen talking down the tournament are RL fans.

Anyway, read this for some hilarious fun: http://www.dailyadvertiser.com.au/story/1855934/world-cup-is-just-a-sham/?cs=150

It's heading into cricket season, there is a big one day series in India, although to be honest the Australian media is focussing more on the cricket than the World Cup, and I think the Ashes got more coverage than the NRL when the ashes were on this year, although I'm not sure about the last one.

I was more thinking that the A-League was over the top of both at the moment.

Thanks Hutch - that is a fantastic video. Things like that allow me to momentarily forget all the times I have cursed my luck for loving this game of ours when it seems like it doesnt love me back.

Oh RL how could i stay mad at you...

Sports editor of the worst regional newspaper in this country. The DA has the mindset of News Ltd even though they are owned by Fairfax. Everything is a beat up with no substance just to boost readership and rarely do they write about anything positive. Really couldn't give a flying f**k what that dopey merkin has to say

Being in WA I regularly listen to Podcasts of the Triple M sports shows to keep up with the Rugby League news, I was quite looking forward to hearing 'The Rush Hour' today as I thought the World Cup talk would start to ramp up, all Rabs talked about was how its a waste of time having the other counties involved, its a boring process to get to the inevitable Aus v NZ final, the other teams dont want to be there and get flogged by 60 etc etc.
He then went on to ask stupid/ignorant questions like why are Aus playing England in Wales and kept on refering to them as GB, why do we need a World Cup, I was so angry I wished I had of heard it live so I could call in.

To respond to Rabs I would point out the following: We get the other countries involved in order to grow the game beyond the outer Sydney suburbs (yes Ray there is a whole big world out there), The group stages are probably the best part of the tournament watching all the other nations compete against each other (far from boring),The other countries love playing and show more pride and passion for there culture than anyone who ever pulled on a Kangaroos Jumper, they dont worry about being flogged but look at taking up the challenge of the best teams in the world. Australia are playing England in Wales as part of a double header, and your not going to believe this Ray but the other game involves Wales, and you know what that means, no GB.

Now I got that little rant over I just want to get to Saturday, stuff the Australian media. I have been waiting for this to start all year and I am going to sit back and enjoy a great festival celebrating our great game, to all those bagging it its your loss.

Rant over.

I was listening to MMM on the weekend, the show with Ginnane and Girds and Ginnane was starting to put the boots into the tournament. Girds shut him down pretty quickly and said how great it was to play in as a player and how far it had come since the days of Australia rolling Russia 110-0. It shut Ginnane up pretty quick.

What gets me is how little knowledge the boys on Talkin Sport have about the tournament.

Girds is awesome. He actually has some knowledge about the game and i find myself agreeing with him most of the time. I think he's actually my favorite RL commentator atm.

Why does that surprise you? Most of them only watch 2-3 games of NRL per week, doesn't surprise me they don't have any knowledge of the World Cup.

Girds is great on the radio, why has no one given him a shot at a TV role? He'd be far better than Gasnier, for example. As an aside, Girds' coffee shop in Dee Why is great- if you're ever in the area, get a coffee there.

Problem is they would just try and shoe horn him into a comedic role like he used to do on the footy show. Would much rather see someone like him on some of these panel shows than Gasnier, Matty Johns, Tallis or so many of these other nuffies who know sweet FA.

Also i will if i'm in the area.
