England vs Ireland

England turned around their agonising defeat to Australia with an extraordinary display against a listless Irish side. A foursome of tries to Tommy Briscoe and doubles to Ryan Hall and Gareth Hock contributed to the 68-6 walloping. Ireland had some people wandering if they could pose an upset, or at least make it close after their efforts against Fiji, but that couldn't replicate that performance. Unless they beat Australia, something that will happen when pigs fly, the World Cup campaign for the Wolfhounds is over. The English meanwhile look ahead to what should be a close game with the Fijians.

England 68 (Briscoe 4, Hall 2, Hock 2, Tomkins, Widdop, S.Burgess, O'Laughlin tries; Widdop 10/12)

Ireland 6 (Scott Grix try and goal)

Australia v Fiji

Bad news for Fiji as John Sutton is ruled out for the rest of the World Cup due to injury (my way of writing him out of the side, makes it a little more realistic). His replacement is Maurice Kennedy, from QLD Cup (the Fijian half combination is about the same ability as the one in real life IMO). It was clear that the Bati missed the presence of Sutton as Australia cleaned them up 41-0. The Fijians remained relatively competitive in the first half, the highlight of which was a 38 metre field goal by Johnathan Thurston to end the half 19-0. Australia then showed their superior skill and fitness to run Fiji ragged in the second half. Fiji will not mind this loss so much, as Ireland have virtually no chance of progressing, and Australia will be happy to have found some try scoring form.

Australia 41 (Inglis 2, Boyd, Thurston, Tate, Lewis, Parker tries; Thurston 5/6, Smith 1/1, Thurston field goal)

Fiji 0

Scotland vs Italy

Italy continued their giant killing run in the World Cup as they made the world sit up and take notice with a 34-6 drubbing of Scotland. Italy scored quite early and then never let up, leading 20-6 at half time. They continued strongly through the second half, scoring thrice more. Scotland will be very disappointed after the excellent win over Tonga, and Italy have surely secured top spot in Group C, unless Tonga beat Cook Islands by a large margin and then proceed to beat Italy by a large margin, or Scotland could make it through if they thrash USA and Tonga beat Italy by enough points. It's exciting times in this group, but what makes it less exciting is a quarter final berth against defending champions New Zealand.

Italy 34 (Falcone 2, Ciraldo, Guerra, A.Minnichello, M.Minnichello, Nasso tries; Mantellato 3/6, Ghietti 0/1)

Scotland 6 (Henderson try, Wallace goal)

Wales vs USA

Wales made a huge improvement on their first match with a 24-6 win over the US. It looked like America was going to produce an upset when they scored first, but errors and lack of possession enabled Wales to hit back and make the scores equal at half time. The Dragons came out in the second half looking like the much better team and it showed, scoring three times and sealing the victory.

Wales 24 (Seamark 2, Kear, Lupton tries; Seamark 4/4)

USA 6 (Faraimo try, Joseph Paulo goal)

Out of curiosity mate, how long are your matches and what difficulty level do you have it on?

My matches are on the highest difficulty and the length is 30 minutes for each match, or 40 minutes if the match involves the big 3. However, if the big 3 play each other, like Australia and England did, the match is half an hour. I do not play any of the matches.

Samoa all but sealed Papua New Guinea's fate with a comprehensive 31-6 defeat. Samoa finally opened their scoring account in this World Cup by shutting out the Kumuls for 70 minutes in an outstanding defensive display. The Samoans go into their final group game with France knowing that if they win there is a high chance they will face Fiji and therefore have a less difficult, but by no means easy, semi final qualifier. PNG meanwhile wil hope to keep the scoreline respectable against New Zealand and continue to develop their home grown talent in the hope that they will do better in 2017.

Samoa 31 (Iosefa, Maitua, Lafai, Roberts, Vidot tries; Roberts 5/5, Leilua field goal)

PNG 6 (Thompson try and goal)

RLWC Intergroup Match

Tonga vs Cook Islands

Very, very entertaining match between these two sides that ended in heartbreak for one team and jubilation for the other. Cook Islands jumped out of the blocks and played some great football to take a half time lead 13-6. Charlie Tonga was seen berating his team during the half time talk, and coming into the second half, Tonga looked threatening but didn't back it up on the field. Until Sika Manu scored and The retry was converted to make it 13-12 with 15 minutes to go. Cook Islands held their own against a rampant and re-energised Tongan attack. But then a terrible defensive display saw Brent Kite stroll over for a soft try and the upset that was on the cards was taken away from the Kukis with just 8 minutes left. The Cook Islands had one last crack in the final minute, and were making ok entry of line breaks, but time and luck were not on their side and Tonga exacted revenge on their Pacific Cup loss four years ago. I tell you what even though it was a computer game I was on the edge of my seat for this one. The Cooks loss sees Group D thrown wide open, as Wales and the Cooks have a win each. Tonga meanwhile will have to thrash Italy to even stand a chance. I will post the scenarios up a little later.

Tonga 18 (Feki, Kite, S.Manu tries; Seluini 2/2, Langi 1/1)

Cook Islands 13 (Peyroux, Malu tries; John 2/2; Arona field goal)

This completes Week 2 of the RLWC Simulation. I believe it has been entertaining so far, what do you think?

RLWC Intergroup Match

Scotland vs USA

Scotland have been eliminated from the World Cup despite an impressive showing in a 34-6 win over the US.
Poor discipline in key situations let the Tomahawks down, but they will leave this World Cup with a valuable learning experience. Scotland meanwhile will have been disappointed expecting to reache quarter finals.

Scotland 34 (Russell 2, Lovegrove, Wallace, Brough, Scott tries; Wallace 5/6)

USA 6 (Newton try; Joseph Paulo goal)

New Zealand vs Papua New Guinea

No one has figured out how to score against the defending champs yet, as the Kiwis collected their third shutout in as many matches with a 52-0 victory over the Kumuls. New Zealand head into the quarter finals as form favourites to take out the title, and PNG look back on a very disappointing campaign.

New Zealand 52 (Tuivasa-Sheck 2, Williams, Whare, Foran, Leuluai, Johnson, Luke, Pritchard tries; Johnson 8/9)

PNG 0

England v Fiji

This was a very entertaining match, with plenty of points scored, 72 in total. However, England fans would have hoped that they had scored more points, even though they still came away with the victory 42-30. England started off strongly, racing to a 24-4 lead. However they seemed to get a little complacent and Fiji hit back to go into the break just 8 points behind. The second half was tries galore, but England pulled through to take second place. What is worrying for the English is their defence, letting in 30 points really easily. This has to be fixed if they want to win this competition.

England 42 (Tomkins, Hall, Cudjoe, Watkins, Widdop, Burrow, Roby tries; Widdop 7/7)

Fiji 30 (W.Naiqama 2, Civonicieva, A.Sims, Bukuya, Uate tries; Koroisau 2/5, W.Naiqama 1/1)
