On another note. My tv viewing preferences have changed as a result of Channel 7s world cup coverage . Channel 7 news is now my first option news as I know Im getting decent news about the RLWC. For the past 5 weeks this has been the case. Wondering if others have changed/modified their tv station of choice as a result of RL world cup coverage?

I haven’t watched fta tv for years, apart from the RLWC games and GF, and won’t be starting now lol.

So in your roundabout way, you are watching channel7 for the RLWC? I too am watching channel7 news nowadays which has been as a result of that stations RLWC coverage. The FTA tv coverage matters significantly for much needed revenues in rugby league going forward.

I think they (7) did a deal to block out Foxtel etc from showing content other than Australia content as this is on the antisiphoning list. This can’t be good for the game. We must allow simulcasts and all networks to have content after the game

Perhaps we can find out whether this 'blocking' did occur? Other things like no radio telecasts has been a concern of this tournament as well. The poor coverage of RLWC on the ABC should be noted as very dissapointing for organisers.

Is there any indication of the level of interest in England for this one? Relatively friendly TV slot at 9am on Sunday morning and I’m assuming it’ll be live on BBC.

Should be bumper ratings in Australia 1.4m watched the opener between the same sides (peaked much higher) and 3.6m watched the 2008 final. I would say we could nudge 4m – hopefully England gets behind their team and the ratings there are amazing also.

Given an Ashes free night it would have gained such numbers. If it does achieve those numbers that will stand as one of the tv ratings achievements for many years. So heres hoping.

As said above, no way we hit those sort of ratings head to head with the ashes. It'll still rate well and be another big win for 7 but not quite as good as it could have been.

I think we may go close. Put it this way, the Ashes test is played over 5 (maybe) days broken into three sessions. I think most fans that are interested enough will miss a couple hours of the cricket to watch the world cup final knowing that they can just tune back into the cricket the next day and continue watching.

It may affect our crowds in the AFL states the most but Adelaide and Perth figures have been small - Melbourne is the worry but I think it will still remain strong.

tv isn't what it was in 2008.

if it gets 2m it will be doing well.

Its in Adelaide and its a day night test. So it will be on when the rugby league world cup is on. DEFINITELY the last session of the first days play will be on during the cup final.

It will be a good test for both sports. Each has something worthwhile to attract viewers.

That's fine if thats what game organisers set out to do. Somehow I dont think so! What will be achieved is a splitting of the audience. Interestingly the last RLWC tv clash with Ashs cricket realised more viewers for the Kangaroo .

The final could have been played last night, with no opposition. Which probably would have been the better option. But obviously that did not happen. As I said it will be a good test for both sports.

How will the nation recover?

If so. With happiness that the underated and most deserving football code of rugby league gains the tv ratings the world cup final deserves.

A valid point. Pretty sure an even better option would have been an all day cricket test in Brisbane this weekend instead of last weekend. Even an all day test in Adelaide would have been good for all concerned. The Saturday final is aimed for fans to attend in person so these alternatives would have been suitable. Didn't happen anyway with god knows how much time both sports knew about the tv clash? Organisers failure once again!
