It was on a secondary channel in an average timeslot up against the ashes. It was up against it from the start. Just sad as it deserves much higher viewership. Thinking it will perform better in Nz.

This. Secondary channels kill it. Unfortunately 7 also had the Aus Open Golf to show at the same time iirc.

Tonga v Eng was:

Up against the Ashes
Up against the Golf
In a poor 4pm Sat timeslot
On secondary channel

Mentioned it was an odd kick off time earlier. Assume a 4.30pm kick off in Nz would have meant 7.30pm coverage in Aust east coast. So Id suggest a timing issue from organisers. A few hours would have meant 100000s of extra viewers! It's a shame as the game deserved a decent audience. Would have won over plenty of neutral and apathetic fans as well.

Sorry but you have your timings the wrong way around. A 4:30 PM kick off in New Zealand would have been even earlier in Australia.

The old fogies can't cope with broadcast and schedule changes. My parents have only watched 1 or 2 games of the cup because they can't find 7Mate. Plus no matter how many times I tell them, they keep checking Ch 9.

I rang them up especially to remind them about the Tonga England semi being on 7Mate but they missed it anyway because they just assumed it was on around 7:30.

It's only an isolated example but I wonder how often it played out across the country.

100 percent correct. I had to keep ringing my parents every week and tell them exactly what time the games were on and what channel and they still had troubles finding 7mate..

The NZ games did come on pretty early in Australia if you are used to channel 9’s 8pm starts. I was telling family members about the channel 7 app and was met with apthy. Like “what app” you can watch all games live streaming. “What are you talking about” me “Don’t worry about it”.The old folks cost 7 some even better ratings than they got.

Which makes me even more bewildered why no radio coverage has been afforded for this world cup!?

Scheduling coincidence or mistake? The world cup final is on when the Ashes cricket day/night test is on! Wonder which organisation put which game on first? It seems the cricket could have been placed elsewhere with a whole summer to place games and coincidentally they elect to have day/night test clashing with a rugby league world cup final? Wonder how this 'clash' (especially tv ratings wise)was worked out?

So how were tv ratings in Tonga NZ and England ?

Its not all about TV in Australia when World Cup is staged

It certainly is for the tv station and the code I would suggest! Goes hand in hand with a successful tournament I'd imagine?

I had to watch bits and pieces on the app cause I was on a polling booth all day for the QLD Election.

On another note. My tv viewing preferences have changed as a result of Channel 7s world cup coverage . Channel 7 news is now my first option news as I know Im getting decent news about the RLWC. For the past 5 weeks this has been the case. Wondering if others have changed/modified their tv station of choice as a result of RL world cup coverage?

I think they (7) did a deal to block out Foxtel etc from showing content other than Australia content as this is on the antisiphoning list. This can’t be good for the game. We must allow simulcasts and all networks to have content after the game
