3,500 tickets left for the PNG vs Ireland game....not bad considering a few hours ago it was over 5,000 tickets left for sale.

Hard to tell how many tickets have gone for the Kiwis vs Scotland and Samoa vs Tonga game based on how they open and close the stands for sale.

NZRL keep pleading poor, surely they could organise a tri series in NZ more regularly? Best thing that could happen is some biff in the NZ v Tonga game and really build a rivalry there.

I'll bet if there were an annual pacific cup the players would commit. Look at the world cup, when there is a tournament on that actually matters they fall over themselves to represent the islands. I honestly think (and this is a big call) that if the Island nations play at full strength in an annual Pacific Cup and the usual passion is on display it could rival State of Origin for interest - it would probably run second commercially but it certainly gives the game another vehicle and would certainly draw the attention of the media to the international game and give the Pacific players a reason to commit fully to their nation and would generate revenue which would allow the Pacific nations to pay their players.

Plus as it starts to make some money, the organisers could start to pay the players fair compensation..

Was given some tickets to Aus v Lebanon today and PAX is 10000ish. Not sure how accurate though as they are freebies and I’m not sure when they were “purchased”.

I know we aren't giving them much notice any more, but going off Ticketek, sales for Samoa v Tonga in Hamilton are good.

Every bay is on sale, and whilst undoubtedly some are being held back, the grandstand behind the goalposts has sold out.

Whilst still not optimal, the manner in which games have been sold in New Zealand have been no where near as confusing as in Australia.

The predictions for Auckland were a lot closer than the other venues, and as you mentioned, most tickets have been put on sale for Christchurch and Waikato for a while.

For both venues, it looks like they'll at least look decent on TV with the main Grandstand and ends both selling strongly.

what sort of freebies are they? I wonder if this is all part of making the crowd look respectable …

Meanwhile, I feel/see/hear zero buzz in Sydney for Sat's Eng v Lebanon game and the RLWC in general

Having no matches midweek really slows whatever momentum is garnered on the weekends

Surely this has to be explored more now.

It is even getting to the stage where you could throw Australia and NZ in with PNG, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga for a Pacific Cup and expect a great tournament, even if it is Australia winning 95% of the time.

Not only that, it could average 15,000 plus, especially if PNG hosts plenty of games and expands its capacity.

I dunno...

Play it often enough and players will start choosing the islands over Aus/NZ. Then we might start to get some real contests.

Matty Johns thinks Lebanon v England is a huge chance to be a sell out hahahaha. I'd be happy with 15-20K!

Better that he is talking it up than down I guess... who knows how many they've sold or will sell, they keep changing what Bays and areas are on sale...

Based upon last PAX I saw for this game a few weeks back, it was around 8K, meaning with members we are possibly sitting around 12Kish... Really need this game to push 20K...

If the Australia and England V Lebanon games get 20k and then hopefully the bullshit idea that Sydney doesn't support internationals can finally end

Still it’s a moot point if the organisers are just going to chase government money.

The internationals at Campbelltown earlier this season started to put doubts into that thinking. A full house that no one expected!

If Australia v Lebanon only gets 20k in Sydney I'd say that will confirm Sydney doesn't support internationals, especially if it relies on a huge percentage of the crowd being Lebanese. "Sydney" has supported internationals in recent times, but only when it's Tonga v Samoa in the west. The trend is that Sydney crowds are okay for teams of high immigration nations but there is little support for the Australian team.

Dissagree. My gut feel was that Sydney should have hosted the Kangaroos v England game. It would have been full at the SFS. Instead in Melbourne , price gouging and a poor turnout occured for a very good game of footy.

Melbourne was shit but Sydney was not guaranteed to do much better. It's easy to hypothetically dream up bigger crowds elsewhere. If we're doing that, I'll imagine Brisbane would have got 50,000.
