I’m guessing yesterday’s sell out in Auckland must Have been $20 a ticket stallion? Surely thats the only way RLWC can draw a big crowd according to you!

You are kidding PR! The prices were much cheaper for the Auckland semi than the tickets for the game in Brisbane which was embarassingly 2/5 full! You have no idea. The game is on show. Appropriate pricing for what is on offer. The Kangaroos v Fiji was certainly not priced right with $75 for behind the posts and over $100 on the sides! Reasonable pricing would have gained a much bigger crowd for Friday's semi. The game was embarassed instead. You just can't figure it out can you!? Price gouging is not appropriate when a sport is establishing its place in the world market place. Give some to get alot later on!

I have some pretty large concerns for the Final.

Looking through Ticketek, I think we'll see the two upper tiers quite full, but behind the goal posts looks very grim. Significant portions are unsold, particularly on the Northern end.

I know, I know, it's only Monday. But for what is the first time since, what 2006(?) since England have played Australia outside of Melbourne, I was hoping we would see some hype in the media.

Will be hard to burst the Ashes bubble.

Wonder what the ticket prices are? If they are high there in lies your answer as to why!

Rlif needs money now, RLWC won’t be back in Australia for over a decade. We aren’t building anything by giving tickets away to fill the stadium and the rlif not having as much money as possible to support developing nations.
Let’s be honest it’s half arsed Australians that haven’t turned up to this World Cup, that’s little to do with cost and a lot to do with attitude.

I paid $160a ticket for halfway line front seats a few weeks ago. Very reasonable. I paid more to see cirque de Soleil on Saturday night for far worse seats.
No excuse, if your a rl fan you should be at this game. Like I said half arsed rl fans in this country who don’t care about the game, just their club, and even then they dont get out in numbers to support their own club mostly.

Whilst I don't understand why the organisers held back as many seats in prime positions until now, the encouraging thing is the seats are moving.

When the Bays behind the posts were put back on sale on Friday, they were all 95% empty. Now they are around 25% - 30% full (some a lot more).

The Cat 1s in the lower bowl have pretty much gone, except for 304, and unsurprising any Cat C that's been on sale for more than a day or two is almost full.

Bays 604 - 638 are the ones of biggest concern, as they are at the higher price point and aren't in the lower bowl... At least they are behind the TV cameras.... I feel we'd be around 35K mark at the moment...

In a competitive sports market its wise to know when and what you can pitch high ticket prices to. Your logic implodes the popularity of the sport in the eyes of neutrals. The game Is on show in a world cup and needs a positive image going forward. Empty stadiums are not what rugby league needs on the publc eye. If you lower the prices you attract more fans, especially neutral fans. If marking a test on Public relations and goodwill in business accumen for rugby league you would fail dismally PR.

There has been no empty stadiums, stop being dramatic lol.
The only poor crowds were in places like Canberra and cairns, where you could get into the game for $16 cheapest seat. Once again for the expensive games better for the rlif to sell 22k tickets @ $100 than 35k tickets at $40.

Perth sold 75% of seats at ticket price from $20-65. It’s unlikely they would have sold many more if the tickets had been $15-40 meaning the rlif would have lost money for the sake of 2-3000mor eat the game.

I’m glad your not running this competition!

Only thing they have got wrong is the ridiculous holding back of seats and not having dedicated england fan sections at each game, and I’d have liked to have seen png get a qf at home but logistically would be hard to guarantee that.

I know that you will not alter your stance despite good logic proving otherwise. So you are content with a rugby league world cup semi final being 2/5ths full on free to air TV with coverage around the world? Many contributors have supported the comment that the $75 (behind goal seats) & $100plus (sideline seats) were way too expensive for the Kangaroos V Fiji final. It's clear that the ticket sale prices were too high! From this we have the world cup embarrassed internationally and the youth of our nation question the credibility of rugby league as a popular sport!? You ignore this very important and crucial point in your whole "expensive ticketing stance". Not only the embarrassment but the lack of enthusiasm from future world cup host cities may be a negative flow on effect of this embarrassment. Added to this when people have forked out for $100 tickets they are less likely to buy promotional merchandise at the ground! But no you think these people are made of money! Don't you? The rugby league public are not made of money and will attend games when they think they are not being conned. Your "quick money grab logic" is manifestly flawed on many fronts. It actually reduces the attractiveness of future world cups, future potential fans and future players whom use to think rugby league was a popular football code! How much do you really want to damage the code PR!?

I’m comtent with the rlif making as much money as possible this RLWC in order to keep supporting developing nations over the next 4 years. Rl fans are obsessed with crowds, I really don’t care if there was 22k or 35k at Australia’s semi, only people it looks bad for is Australian RL and it’s fans.

In ten years when Australian cities are once again bidding for rlwc2029 no one will care how many were at Suncorp,

Let’s take your view shall we, so we don’t take the host city money and we price tickets at half the current price and choose venuesmon maximisingg attendances. The RLWC gets 100k more fans attending and the rlif walk away with $3-4million less to invest in the sport over the next 4 years. How the heck is that a good outcome for the international game? This is the only main revenue source for the rlif, you do understand that dont you? How much do you want to damage the games cevelopment stallion?

If it’s not origin australians are at best ambivalent about rep footy, slashing ticket prices won’t change that attitude. Like I said if ticket prices we’re main issue you’d have seen much bigger pool game crowds were tickets were in fact very reasonably priced.

Hold on my logic doesn't suggest to not take the host city money!? It suggests cheaper tickets to gain bigger crowds and greater acceptance of this code everywhere. That's the logic. Your logic promotes a failed look of less than half full stadiums with the negativity that comes with that look. Go figure!?

50k for the 2008 WC Final NZ v Aus at Suncorp.

Surely Aus v Eng can get 50k at the same ground.

It should! And deserves to.Ticket prices are a very real factor this time around! The ticket prices destroyed a full house in the Melbourne opener which set a disturbing trend for the rest of the tournament in Australia. Poor venue allocation and high ticket prices stopped this world cup from being a massive success. It's a success but not massive which it richly deserved with the football entertainment shown.

I recall in 1988 when the SFS was built the league put ticket prices up and as a result crowds stayed away.

The two origin games drew 26,441 and 16,910.

So the first time Brisbane is asked to show up to an Australia v tier-2 game and they massively disappoint in crowd, drawing much the same number (within 1k or so) as a Sydney group game.

Guess we can put to bed the stupid idea that Brisbane supports international RL and Sydney doesn't now we have an apples to apples comparison for the first time in a decade. As bad as each other.
