I remember some people questioning his effort last year, but whenever I saw the Knights play his effort was a standout. So quick off the line. I don't think he offers much in attack, but I don't think he ever has. He's a brutally effective defender.

I wouldnt need him to attack if he defends like that week in week out

If Watmough plays who misses out??? Kenny and Mau are awesome, Tep is also too good to leave out. Peni and Wicks added plenty of sting off the bench again tonight. Good spot to be in i suppose.

Maybe Teps at prop. Prepare him for next year

Pretty much. He is sort of just there to do the odd hit up when needed and for better or worse he fancies his offload. I do think he runs some tidy lines in the red zone though. Might not score off them a great deal but he keeps the interior defenders very honest.

On the other side of the ball though...he is a legitimate monster. The grub/thug factor is great too. He can unsettle opposition players with his bullshit which is something we haven't had in a long time.

And he knows how to slow the ruck without being penalised

Pritchard? Watmough can have his 20mins off the bench, to say goodbye.

Even at his best I don't think Watmough gets in our side ahead of Scott, Edwards, Ma'u or Moeroa. Maybe if he goes around again next year, he can join the front row rotation to fill the gap left by Paulo?
Watmough play in the front row to replace junior?? lol, BA likes a bench hooker so i doubt Kaysa is going anywhere.

I am not sure there is anyone in the NRL with the brutal power of this guy. Klemmer was man handled. And so was Big sam.

He has a massive run game and a great offload. His issue thou is defense.Tonight he was caught out i thought a few times being slow to get back from a tackle.
Still our best prop but i am sure we will find someone to do the job.

Paulo was the only forward to make less tackles than runs tonight. That said, he is easily our best attacking forward. Plus when he gets the chance to put a shot on that's nice too.

Totally agree with everything you wrote there.

If you remember 2 years back, Gower was always passing to a flying Hayne.

Loved the offloads. This is what DA should've done after 2009. Gameplan with controlled offloads.

The offloads are only possible because of big fast merkins punching holes in the defence. Without that you get ugly offloads dumped out the back, with the defence swarming all over your support players.

Kind of like we did to the Dogs tonight.

Hey Pou, as the stats merkin you must have run some numbers regarding taking the two, particularly when ahead by multiples of 6?

The only stat I ever cared about was LBAs. Otherwise I get my opinion from watching the game, decide what type of stat would back it up and then go and find it.

About penalty goals? Why would that be interesting? I'd happily get rid of penalty goals and replace them with a scrum, except where only the defending team has to include any players. Hear me out.

Those defensive players line up in three lots of two, with a front marker and a back marker, right in front of the player taking the tap. When he taps the ball, the back marker has to leapfrog over the front marker before any of them are allowed to make a tackle. Just think how much space this will create in the defensive line!

Also, the front marker can't crouch too low. He's not allowed to make it easy for the bloke jumping over him. The bend in the knees can't be less than 90 degrees and his hands can't touch the ground. Also, the attacking team isn't allowed to interfere with the leapfroggers or they get penalised for obstruction.

I think you might have just revelationised the game. Knuckle- draggers gone in an instant. Is Barry's tactic of throwing a Sandow over the try-line still allowed?

It seems there are more teams willing to take a two point lead, or extend 6 to 8 (or 12 to 14, etc.) this year. But that's just my perception, and I don't care enough to check if the stats support it.

You don't care enough either, apparently.

Genuinely would be interested to know if taking the two is the right choice or not..

It's going to depend on a lot of things: the style/quality of your team's attack, whether the defensive team are partic. good/bad at hanging on for multiple sets, the weather/field conditions, whatever psychological effect the bigger lead has on how your team play, etc. as well as the obvious considerations.

I think it is definitely worth trying. I know it's illegal in american football (they tried it), but as long as there's no obstruction it should be fine in league :)

My other suggestion about allowing each fullback a vicious dog able to be released once per half was more facetious.

Watmough would come in for one of the bench props probably Peni. Moeroa would go to the bench with Watnough starting.

I know everyone is questioning whether Watmough would make the side, but last year after he stopped trying to be a 5/8 he was pretty good. His defence in the middle was great, but he was playing injured. Let's not forget he was playing in a side without Jennings / Gordon / Foran etc etc Kelly in the halves. Not many looked to good last year at times but a lot were in last nights side.

If everyone is getting excited about Scott, just wait and see what he and Watnough will do together. I really hope Watmough over comes his injury and gets onto to the field to silence a few critics (and win us a comp)

Watmough / Scott together will really give us a top pack and the aggression that wins comp.

So one prop on the bench??? I think BA has got the perfect mix atm. Livewire like Kaysa with 2 props on the bench with someone like Edwards or Gower who can really play some footy but don't mind doing the tough stuff. I really fail to see what more Watmough can add to the side. Scott really has made Watmough role redundant atm, though we may need him around origin time and if injuries take hold. As i said it's a good position to be in.
