Robson desperate to stay an Eel

With our main go to man being Hayne... having an organising halfback rather than a playmaker isn't a bad option. I'd expect Mortimor to take over the halfback role next year with KK playing five eighth. But Robson's experience, even though he's not played a lot of first grade, would come in handy even just at training and to help the younger guys out a bit. Let's keep in mind Robson has been coached by Des Hasler, and trained alongside Matt Orford so would have learned a lot from them, even though he may not be talented enough himself, he could have a few tips for KK and Morts just in regards to the leadership of a team.

The first half of your post you were going really good, but when you said robson can teach morts n KK things i had to just stop reading. You cant be serious?the both of them have it all over him in half back play. They have vision/he dont/they have kicking games/he dont/they have running games/he doesnt..He has a good defensive game, thats all he has.

Lowrie gets the ball more than INU.

However, on the rhs, Reddy gets it more than Benny or JoeyG.

Just a question guys, would you say our rhs centre/wing is performing better or the lhs?

Who's the half playing on the right and who''s the half playing on the left?

I think I`ve seen Mortimer on the left (Inu`s side) more often than Robson. But Robson plays both sides and is more often the first receiver.

I'd say it's about equal - Reddy and Grothe on the right are scoring the tries, but Burty and Inu are making breaks and running rings around their opponents.

Burt`s making breaks and playing well. But, gee, Inu is disappointing me. I was a big Inu fan, but I`ve been waiting and waiting for him to show some real form. I`m even starting to agree with some people who kept saying he`s a winger not a centre. I`m frustrated every time he gets the ball. Maybe he`s not a centre. Maybe next year it will be Tahu and Reddy. But then we`d have three wingers - Burt, Gothe and Inu. I wouldn`t drop Burt or Grothe on this year`s form.

Not teach, but maybe assist to their development. He may have lesser skills but I think Robson can read a game, but just does not have the skills to execute. His experience of playing and training with solid halfbacks may be enough to help coach Morts and KK about the role of a halfback in general, and the leadership involved. Those boys have the talent, but playing halfback in juniors is a lot different to playing in first grade these days and having Robson on board just to give these fellas a helping hand and be a back up may well be worth it.

well eventually being the operative word, he was always a back up half who hit a purple patch for a couple of seasons and did well, that's what Robson is, that's what Blake green is, that's what Matt Head is, that's what Eddie Paea is and unfortunately for alot of you, that's what Tim Smith is....

I know you are probably right, Stagger; but with only 17 first grade games under his belt, maybe it`s a bit too early to categorize Robson yet. I think I`ve seen some slight improvements in his kicking game (a good kick here, a good kick there) and some neat work in attack that suggest to me that he could improve his attacking game, given enough time in first grade. He might not, of course, but he does seem very dedicated and seems to respond well to criticism and to the coach`s instructions.

fair point lingard.

Let face it, he has contributed significantly to where we are today. At least we know if kk or morts get injuredee, wee have a reliable and solid backup.

People are too easily swayed by a winning team. If we were still losing Robson would be being savaged from pillar to post. Let's face it the reality is that he is a good defender but his attacking game is quite poor.

There`s probably some truth in what you say. It might be different if we were losing. But then, that might be understating the part Robson plays in the overall structure of our winning team. And, to give credit where it`s due, I don`t think he`s a good defender - I think he`s a pretty remarkable defender.

robson's kicking game is diabolical. winning a few games doesn't change that. it's still diabolical.

No. It isn`t too flash, but it`s not diabolical. He puts in some good kicks from time to time. He did a lovely kick on Sunday, into Grothe`s corner which, had it come off, would have been as good as anything Mortimer has done.

when "isn't too flash" is as good as it gets when you're winning, just remember this post when a few losses occur ;)

I reckon Robson plays Right and Mortimer left.

I rarely see Robson passing to INU/Burt/Lowrie

and I never see Mortimer pass to Grothe/Reddy.

Unless there is a sweeping play from one end to the other, you will see one half pass to the other half.

i.e. right to left -> Robson to Morts

left to right -> Morts to Robson.

I think Lowrie gets more ball than Inu.

However, on the right hands side, Reddy gets more ball than whoever the 2nd rower is on the right.

The thing is, he is complementing the side atm.

I think the problem with INU is that he is trying to do things himself rather than make proper use of his wingman.

Reddy goes himself but also creates for Grothe.

INU goes himself and if it doesn't succeed, he gets tackled with the ball.

Tahu was like that early on in his centre career.

IMO he was like that for his entire centre career, but towards the end of it he was playing well and beating the man more often than not...

Umm....Robson does have a running game.

I agree. He has the best running game from one of our halves for some time.

It's probably the best part of his attacking game, along with his ability to offload in the tackle.

He's a backrower or prop in a halfback's body.
