Saw the game at Waminda.

I think East Campbelltown are getting the rough end of the stick. Each week they play the team who have the bye in Massey therefore have to play stacked teams each week

Blacktown did the right thing playing Massey players who have had limited game time or are coming back from Injuries. Jerry Key played solid minutes in his third game back from injury. Young Daniel Parker at the back was impressive in his 2nd Shield match after coming straight out of SG Ball. Blacktown always looked in control of the match but had to with stand a few Eagles comebacks and the lop sided penalty count. The refereeing was very poor.

This highlights the problem of having the draw in sync when there is an odd number of teams in the comp. Mounties and Wenty played their regular SS teams and won easily but Windsor dropped back 6 RMC players and East Campbelltown won anyway - although the NSWRL website gave the game to Windsor as all the Campbelltown scorers are shown against Windsor and vice versa. They also gave up a win to St Marys when their doctor did not show.

The problem would be solved if there were an equal number of teams in each grade, preferably 12 so that full home and away applied.

Where do Sydney Shield players play when they aren't selected ?
I have a couple of players that I know but don't seem to be playing at the moment for Cabra so I was wondering where they play if not selected

Most of the Sydney Shield ield teams have A Grade teams in their local comp so they would likely go there. Not sure about teams like Peninsula? Maybe they have a link with one of the other Manly A Grade teams?

Cabra shield is short 2 try scorers again. How hard is it for someone to send scorers through correctly

After the fiasco last week, Windsor have reinstated the 8 RMC players that were left out meaning that the half back f**kas 1s the only back to survive.

The Kingsgrove Colts caused one of the biggest boilovers in Ron Massey Cup history when they upset the Windsor Wolves 18-14 at Windsor Sports Complex last Saturday Night.

It was the Colts’ first win in Ron Massey Cup in nearly two years – their last win was in Round 22, 2014 when they defeated Blacktown Workers 40-22 at Laybutt Fields.

Since then, the Colts endured 27 straight losses in Ron Massey Cup play – their only competition points coming from byes – before last Saturday night’s breakthrough win.

It was also just the sixth Ron Massey Cup win in the last four seasons for the battling Colts, who have had two winless seasons (2013 and 2015) in that period.

The Colts came out and meant business from the kick off against a reshuffled Wolves lineup after the Wolves moved players around into their Sydney Shield team earlier in the evening.

Early tries to winger Justin Gasovski and James Chongsun set the Wolves back on their heels before the home side replied with uncoverted tries to Ryan Tramonte and Keiran Croft.

Both teams exchanged tries in the second half. Wolves backrower Peter Betros scored for Aaron f**kas to convert before Colts hooker Hayden Warren capped a standout match with a try converted by multi-talented sportsman Daniel Arahu to give the Colts their 18-14 lead.

Arahu is also a class cricketer having being in and out of the St George First Grade side in recent summers as a top-order batsman – his three conversions from three attempts being crucial.

The Colts then held on in the closing stages in the face of desperate late Wolves pressure to secure a famous victory.

Western Suburbs joined a four-way tie at the top of the Massey Cup with a thrilling come-from-behind 22-20 win over Wentworthville in the all Magpies ‘battle of the birds’ at Campbelltown last Saturday.

In a match of contrasting halves, both sides took their attacking opportunities in the first half.

‘Wenty’ opened the scoring when hooker Jordan Galloway forced his way over from close range for a 6-nil lead.

That lead was extended with tries to Timoci Vatubuli and Adrian Ha’angana for a 16-nil Wentworthville lead after just 16 minutes.

Wests then fought back with Shannon Gallant’s fifth try of the season and a Jay Bonnell scoring off a Dayne Craig grubber kick to bring the scores back to 16-12 with Gallant converting both tries.

David Sisifa then posted ‘Wenty’s fourth try from a Wests error at the restart for 22-12 with Dylan Izzard’s conversion

Wests again replied in the shadows of half time when Tala Mapesone scored from a Brendan Waters face ball to leave Wentworthville leading 22-18 at the break.

The second half saw some of the best defence for the season to date in the Massey Cup.

Both sides repelled great attack, before Brendan Waters scored the crucial try in the 67th minute in his first match against his old club to give Wests the lead for the first time at 22-20 after Gallant missed the conversion.

Wests held on in the dying minutes – including defusing a high ‘Wenty’ bomb in their own in-goal right on full time – to clinch their win.

Another standout performance from former Manly Holden Cup star Addison Demetriou propelled the Auburn Warriors to a 36-28 win over Cabramatta at Lidcombe Oval last Saturday.

In another entertaining contest, Demetriou scored two tries at centre – his second try coming at a critical stage in the second half – and had a perfect six goals from six attempts with the boot.

Demetriou’s personal tally of 20 points plus two tries to in-form winger Abraham El Zakhem was enough to give the Warriors a six tries to five win and move them to fifth place on the Massey Cup table. Centre Corrin Smith bagged two tries for the beaten Two Blues outfit.

Finally, Mounties joined the four way tie at the top of the Massey Cup with a hard fought 20-16 win over the Guildford Owls at McCredie Park last Sunday.

Alofe Mataele’s 12th try of the season gave the defending Premiers a 6-4 lead at half time in what was a tight arm wrestle for the first 40 minutes. Centre Josh Cameroux got the Owls’ first half try.

The lead changed hands a number of times in the second half as the Owls put in their best Massey Cup display in recent weeks.

Tries to John Martin and Jarrod Brackenhofer for Mounties cancelled out come back tries by Jarrod Farlow and Tyrone Shelly for Guildford as the match shaped up for a thrilling finish.

However, Mataele’s second try for the day – and 13th for the year – kicked ‘The Mulga’ away in the last 20 minutes to allow Mounties to score their win.

Wentworthville, Wests, Mounties and Concord-Burwood all share the Massey Cup lead on 14 points after the completion of the split round, with Wentworthville still leading on percentages.

Despite their great win, Colts are still at the bottom of the Ron Massey Cup table on four points.

This weekend sees a return to a full round of matches – with one game on Saturday and five games on Sunday to complete the round.

The pick of the round on Sunday sees Wentworthville take on Hills District Bulls at Ringrose Park and St Marys hosting the Concord-Burwood Wolves at St Marys Leagues Stadium.

A field goal in the final minute by half Ben Hudd gave the Windsor Wolves the Sydney Shield upset of the season to date with a 19-18 win over the Peninsula Seagulls at Windsor Sports Complex last Saturday.

Windsor made the most of reshuffling their playing roster to improve their Sydney Shield outfit - a side that had not won a game for the season until Saturday.

The Wolves also made the most of easily the Seagulls’ worst performance of the season so far that was riddled with dropped balls, turnovers and penalties.

Windsor came out firing against the flat Seagulls and got the first two tries of the match to centre Abraham Murdoch to lead 8-nil after 18 minutes - both of which were not converted.

Then the Seagulls clicked into some sort of gear with tries to Izaiah Phillips and workaholic back-rower Todd Wilson in the space of 10 minutes to lead 12-8 in the shadows of half-time. Half Luke Martin converted both tries to give the Seagulls the lead for the only time in the match.

Windsor got a third unconverted try from another Seagulls turnover before the interval - this time to fullback Tori Willie as the half time siren sounded - to have the scores locked up at 12-all at the break.

From another dropped ball on half way, the Wolves - who struggled for long periods in the second half themselves - made the most of their opportunity in the immediate set of six from the turnover.

Wlves winger James Goring scored to give the home side the lead, which was extended with Wolves halfback Ben Hudd's conversion to give Windsor an 18-12 lead with 15 minutes left.

As time ran down - and almost against the run of play - some neat work down a short blind side by Martin sent Seagulls winger RIchie Goodwin to dive over in the corner to score with three minutes left.

Martin nailed the conversion from touch to level scores at 18-all with just on two minutes on the clock when play restarted.

Sure enough, the Seagulls coughed up the ball one more time from the set of six after the restart to give WIndsor the feed and field position to 'ice' the game.

Hudd slotted the field goal from close range with under 60 seconds left to give the Wolves the lead at 19-18, before Windsor regained the ball from a last desperate short kickoff by the Seagulls to seal their first win of the Sydney Shield season.

Mounties took advantage of the Seagulls slip up when they were too clinical for the young Guildford Owls outfit 26-14 at McCredie Park last Sunday.

Mounties led 16-10 at half time with tries to class half Jake Horton as well as wingers Allen Malea Malau and Maika Sivo. Michael Markus and Anthony Layoun got replying tries for the Owls in the first stanza.

Mounties fullback Finlay Dibley extended the Mounties lead just after half time before winger Kelepi Manu scored wide out to keep the Owls in the contest midway through the second half.

A Brad Speechley try was enough put the game to bed in the last 10 minutes and send ‘The Mulga’ to sole leadership of the Sydney Shield.

The remaining three weekend matches saw three high scoring ‘shootouts’.

The most significant result of these ‘tryfests’ was Blacktown Workers’ 43-38 win over East Campbelltown Eagles at Waminda Oval last Sunday.

In an even greater reshuffling of playing rosters than at Windsor 24 hours earlier, the Workers made the most of their bye in Ron Massey Cup by playing over half of their Massey squad against the Eagles to give their Shield side a badly needed boost.

The match was tight early with the Eagles more than matching their higher graded opponents. The Workers led 16-10 at half time with winger Will Butler scoring the first of his two tries in the first half to help secure the visitors their lead.

The match opened right up in the second 40 minutes as both sides went try for try.

Workers forwards Max Napa and Jerry Key appreciating the drop back to Sydney Shield with tries to lock the game up at an incredible 38-all with under five minutes left.

Just as he did the previous week in Ron Massey Cup to sink Mounties, five eighth Tiger Vatuvei slotted a close range field goal to give the Workers a 39-38 lead inside the last 90 seconds.

Workers skipper Jake Attard then scored off a counter attack from the short Eagles restart right on full time to seal the eight tries to seven win – and send East Campbelltown crashing to their fourth straight loss.

Defending Premiers Wentworthville held off Western Suburbs 46-34 in another 15 try contest at Campbelltown Stadium last Saturday.

Wests started off with a full head of steam with tries to winger Obed Kharwin and half Daniel Roberts for an early 10-nil lead, before ‘Wenty’ struck back with three tries in six minutes of their own attack to Douglas Faai, Joseph Pouhila and Michael Lekkas to give the visitors a 16-10 lead.

Niall Walker scored from a Jai Doolan pass to bring Wests back to within two points.

‘Wenty’ interchange forward Stephen Howard then crashed over from close range to again extend the ‘Wenty’ lead, before Lekkas scored his second try two minutes from the break for a 28-14 half time lead after Kamren Cryer’s conversion.

‘Wenty’ then won the match in the first 10 minutes of the second half with converted tries Keehan Diamond and Zac Nicholls to blow the lead out to 40-14.

Despite Wests’ comeback midway through the half – which included Doolan’s 14th try from the season following a rare mutual infringement involving referee Darren Burtenshaw – ‘Wenty’ steadied with Wallace Tangiiti ‘icing’ the match with a converted try with seven minutes left for a 46-24 lead.

Wests made the score more respectable with the last two tries of the match in the closing stages.

Finally, Cabramatta shot back up into the Top Eight on percentages with a thumping 50-28 win over Auburn Warriors at Lidcombe Oval last Saturday.

13 tries were scored in this match where the Two Blues were rarely threatened by the young Warriors outfit.

Josh Elmer and Daniel Ascoli bagged two tries each out of Cabramatta’s eight majors, while Warriors hooker Connor Jones was outstanding in a losing cause with a hat trick out of the their five tries posted.

Mounites are now sole Shield leaders on 16 points ahead of the Seagulls, Belrose and St Marys all on 14 points.

Windsor’s win now sees Asquith as the only winless team across all of the NSWRL Senior all age competitions at the bottom of the Shield ladder.

This weekend sees a return to a full round with one match on Saturday and a bumper six games on Sunday. St Marys take on Belrose at St Marys Leagues Stadium in the Match of the Round

Perfect example of why the NSWRL should not have got rid of the match day programme reports

The report written about the East Campbelltown V Blacktown is completely wrong. Half time score wrong. There was only a handful of fulltime Massey players playing, at no time were the scores level. Jake Attard scored early in the half. The last scoring play was the field goal when the scores were 42-38.

Hahahahah makes me laugh. NSWRL happy with mediocrity

Probably so the ex-international cricketer and his buddies can give themselves a pay rise.

"mediocrity" is a very generous assessment. If you want another laugh look at the Mounties facebook, Jordan Martin's father cant understand why his his son is missing from the top try scorers list. It is a miracle that anything is correct.

Last night Cabramatta produced a boilover by beating Mounties 18-14 in RMC. The SS result went to Mounties 38-22. Here are Paul Martin's thoughts from Mounties facebook:

Been watching the Ron Massey boys all season and I have to say there's not much difference between the top sides and the bottom. Every side i have watch play you guys are willing, pretty fit and everyone turns up to beat the minor premiers with every team coach well. The teams at the top of the ladder are doing Little things the best, the 1%,'s,, better discipline being CLEAN late in tackle counts (not testing ref no piggybacks) showing respecting to the ball and the other side and playing field position ( earning the right to score points) and most of all playing as a team not individuals.( doing your role).there's obviously a few other things but for me these things stick out as the difference.

Everyone turns up to beat the minor premiers you mounties in brace it lads

These round games are always practice matches. Do these things right and you get to play in the games that matter, "semifinals" the games everyone loves playing in.. Enjoying watching you lads...

In other news, Paul Fletcher has recruited Jarred Farlow to add a third prong to Guildford's experience, supplementing Shane Shackleton and Matt Ryan, as he attempts to lift the Owls from the foot of the RMC table. Farlow has been playing NSW Cup since 2006 and made an appearance in the NRL in 2013.

In a similar vein, Troy Gibbs has been added to the East Campbelltown SS roster as the Eagles sit on the edge of the 8 after 4 successive losses. Gibbs played last season with Appin along side his brother Bryce.

St Marys have had a huge day with wins in both grades over highly placed opponents. In RMC St Marys, spurred on by a hat trick to Tom Eisenhuth, beat Concord Burwood 34-22. In SS a huge second half allowed Saints to overcome a 8-4 deficit at half time to record a 38-14 win over Belrose.

At Storey Park, Windsor were quick out of the blocks, posting 3 tries in the first 13 minutes. Asquith then returned serve with 3 tries to even up 18-18 after 26 minutes. It was then back and forth for the rest of the game until Alex Nicholls O'Neil scored his second tries 2 minutes from the end to give Asquith a 32-30 result.

Wenty were too strong for Hills with a 46-18 outcome.

That makes 5 consecutive losses for East Campbelltown and are leaking plenty of points but with 8 teams making the finals will recall that Belrose were in the finals last year after losing 9 in a row. West played their normal SS team.

Windsor and Blacktown seem to have benefited from the experience of mixing with some RMC players last week while Auburn almost delivered a second consecutive loss for Peninsula.
