I saw the Guildford v Blacktown matches

SS went to Blacktown in a boil over.

Guildford led 14-0 early but superb defence from Workers kept them scoreless for the remainder of the match. Lochlan Piper (returning from injury) had a massive game along with Sene Tala and Jake Attard. Good to see Blacktown grind out a well deserved win. They are finally getting troops back and its making a massive difference. They had 20+ on the injured list just weeks ago

The Massey was a thriller. 12-10 at the break to Blacktown. Guildford scored just after the break. Blacktown hit back to make it 18-16 with plenty of time left on the clock. They looked to have the match before a Mason Farrell break down the touchline saw the winger kick back infield which saw Tui Oloapu win the race to the ball to score with the last play of the match. 30 seconds left on the clock. Its now 3 games Blacktown have lost in the last minute this season. Patty Weisner was left scratching his head after another one got away.

The NSWRL "talking points" says that Auburn scored 18 tries against Kingsgrove in their 86-6 win. In a week where all the scores seem to add up, Auburn clocked up only 16 tries and 11 goals spread over 4 kickers. It appears the NSWRL missed to other 3 kickers and worked backwards to 72.

It is good to see that it appears that Auburn, a middle ranked side, put 100% into the game to match the 80 plus scores by top teams Wenty and Wests. Some other sides have gone through the motions and one club is severely embarrassed by their approach.

There was an odd post on twitter on Sunday stating that Kingsgrove led Auburn 16-12 at half time - not very helpful.

Just a day after Kingsgrove's win the majority of their players backed up and played A-Grade and lost by quite alot

That is vey interesting. Kingsgrove won 5 out of their first 6 games and led the 6 team Combined comp ladder. They were beaten 54-14 by the St George Dragons, a team from Belmore with the same jersey as Kingsgrove.

Fast forward one week and while Auburn were winning 86-6, Kingsgrove forfeited in the combined comp so maybe some players have been backing up for weeks, and the Dragons side went down to Auburn A Grade 26-14.

The Auburn A Grade, which commenced in round 6 includes Matt Utai, Heka Nanai, Joe Mua, Joel Tivuti, Bill Sleiman, Wes Talanoa, Mo Alhaj etc.

Yeah mate 100% they back up

That's a red hot a-grade side.

Mounties will smoke Kingsgrove if they're truly up for it. 100 points could be possible. I may even get to Aubrey Keech earlier to watch it and check it out.

The Cabramatta Two Blues scored their best win of the Ron Massey Cup season when they upset defending Premiers Mounties 18-14 at New Era Stadium last Saturday night.

In one of the best matches played in the Massey Cup this season, Mounties looked the goods early when Jordan Martin scored from a John Kennedy cut-out pass and Sage Wilder crashed over from close range to give Mounties a 10-nil lead.

Two Blues winger Brent Anderson got Cabramatta on the board just before half-time from a clever Ernest Alo grubber to narrow the gap to 10-6 at the break.

When Mounites interchange player Mitch Beggs scored six minutes into the second half from a basic Cabra knock on from a scrum, it appeared that the visitors were asserting their authority at 14-6 to the good.

However, in their most committed display of the year, Eddie Flahey’s men were not to be denied.

Interchange prop Zac Wedesweiler carried three defenders over the line to score, before interchange hooker Jeremy Safi finished off great build-up play to give Cabramatta the lead at 18-14, 16 minutes into the second half.

There was no scoring for the last 24 minutes of the match – with Cabramatta absorbing tremendous Mounties attack in the closing stages.

The Two Blues held on for their best win of the year; the last Mounties attack of the night finished with a lost ball in goal with less than two minutes left.

A miracle try to winger Alex Nicholls-O’Neill with two minutes left saw the Asquith Magpies get out of jail, with a 32-30 win over a gallant Windsor Wolves at Storey Park last Sunday.

Asquith had to come from behind three times during the match.

Windsor shot out of the blocks with superb tries to Peter Betros from an Aaron f**kas pass, then Jordon Stratton and Luke Atchison from close range to lead 18-nil after just 13 minutes.

Asquith’s first comeback saw the hosts score three converted tries of their own – to Jeco Makatoa, Brad Wall, and O’Neill from a Jack Hawkins break – to level up at 18-all after 27 minutes.

Wolves winger Riki Willie then regained the lead for the visitors with a try five minutes from the break to give Windsor a 24-18 lead at half-time.

Replacement Asquith winger Hugh Tomkins finished off a Makatoa break in the corner, before centre Adam Kalcina completed the Magpies’ second comeback to score three tackles after a spilt bomb by Windsor fullback Tori Willie, giving Asquith a 26-24 lead with 20 minutes left.

A turnover by Makatoa from a 20 metre restart saw centre Marli Sini score wide out for f**kas to convert and a 30-26 Windsor lead with 10 minutes left.

As time was running out Windsor appeared to be holding on, before a chip kick in behind the Wolves defence was brilliantly gathered by Nicholls-O’Neill to regather and score under the post with two minutes left. Hawkins converted and Asquith’s third and decisive comeback was complete.

An Adrian Davis masterclass saw St Marys go back into the top eight with a 32-22 win over Concord-Burwood Wolves at St Marys Leagues Stadium last Sunday.

After the Wolves shot out to an 8-nil lead after 10 minutes, with tries to Cameron Eyles and Sione f**kof**ka, Davis stepped up for the Saints and took charge.

The class five-eighth had a hand in five of the Saints’ six tries – with lead-up work for each of centre Tom Eisenhuth’s hat-trick of tries.

Davis also landed five goals from six with the boot – in stark contrast to the Wolves’ Aaron Booth’s poor return of one from five attempts. Henry Seumanu scored a double for the Saints.

Wentworthville stayed at the top of the Massey Cup table with a thumping 46-18 win over Hills District Bulls at Ringrose Park last Sunday.

After David Sisifa and Jake Butler-Fleming got early tries to give Wentworthville and early 12-nil lead, class Bulls half James Boustani inspired a comeback in his return match from injury.

Boustani scored a try and set up a try for winger Liam Walker to level scores at 12-all after 24 minutes.

That was as far as the Bulls got as the Magpies asserted their stamp on the match with tries to Yileen ‘Buddy’ Gordon, Jordan Galloway and Nick Walker, giving Wentworthville a commanding 30-12 lead at the break.

Promising young Magpies outside back Jack Miller finished the scoring with his try six minutes from time to complete the impressive Wentworthville win.

In another last minute miracle, a freakish last-gasp try to Tui Oloapu with less than 30 seconds left saw the Guildford Owls pip an unlucky Blacktown Workers 22-18 at McCredie Park last Sunday.

After Blacktown led 12-10 at half-time in a tight contest, the lead changed hands twice in the second half as both teams exchanged converted tries in the second stanza to give the Workers an 18-16 lead with less than 15 minutes left.

Just as it seemed that Blacktown were finally going to win a close contest, a long break by Mason Farrell with last play of the match saw the winger put in a central kick that saw Oloapu win the race to the ball and score the winning try.

It was Guildford’s first win in five games and the fourth Workers loss by four points or less this season – three of those losses in the last 60 seconds of matches.

Finally, the Kingsgrove Colts euphoria of their first win in two years came crashing back to earth as they were thrashed 86-6 by the Auburn Warriors at Kogarah Jubilee Oval last Sunday.

The Warriors posted 16 tries in the rout, with Nesi Mataitonga posting a hat-trick of tries. Ben Dakuwaqa, Addison Demetriou, Jake Kamire and Abraham El Zakhem all scored two tries each.

Demetriou added seven goals with the boot for another personal tally of 22 points.

Wests had the bye and share the lead with Wentworthville on 16 points, with Mounties and Concord-Burwood still in the top four on 14 points. The Colts are again a clear last on four points.

Another full round is set down for this weekend, with four matches on Saturday and two games on Sunday.

The long anticipated ‘Blue Mountains Big Blue’ between Windsor and St Marys on Saturday night at Windsor and the Concord-Burwood versus Wentworthville match at Goddard Park on Sunday are the pick of the weekend games.

Tony Dosen's SS Wrap

A four-try performance from winger Maika Sivo propelled competition leaders Mounties to a 38-22 win over Cabramatta in the Sydney Shield game played at New Era Stadium last Saturday evening.

After Cabramatta got off to a good start with early tries to Jake Webb to lead 10-nil, Mounties asserted their class.

Sivo’s four tries, along with two tries and five goals from seven attempts from Jake Horton for a personal tally of 18 points, was enough for Mounties to keep their lead at the top of the Shield table with a seven-tries-to-four win.

In another high-scoring try-fest, Western Suburbs just edged out a fast-finishing East Campbelltown Eagles 40-38 at Waminda Oval last Sunday in the annual Benny Stevens Memorial Cup match.

Wests jumped out to a 10-nil lead after a tight first 10 minutes with tries to Paul Roberts and Jai Doolan – Doolan maintaining his great strike rate with his 15th try of the season.

The Eagles came back with the first two of backrower Guy Thompson’s three tries to lead 12-10 after both were converted by fullback Ben Baker.

Wests then replied in kind converted tries to Toa Mata’afa from a Roberts pass, and Tony Tali from a Roberts bomb that skewed off the side of Roberts’ boot and took a horror bounce. Doolan’s conversions gave Wests a 22-12 lead at half-time.

The Magpies extended the lead to 28-12 two minutes after the interval when Kelsey Coakes scored off a Doolan pass.

East Campbelltown came back a second time with winger Craig Moustakas’ 12th try of the year followed by Mason Talolua crashing over from close range to bring the scores back to 28-22 with Baker’s conversion.

Wests then extended their lead again to 40-22 with 15 minutes left as defence went out the window in the emotional atmosphere. Phil Bromal and Tom Gleary scored converted tries to give the Magpies their buffer.

Baker was then sin binned for dissent by referee Martin Jones with 12 minutes left in what was a critical call.

The Eagles – driven by the emotional atmosphere for the Stevens family, who were present – had one last comeback in them. Thompson completed his hat-trick and Fred Tavaga crossed shortly afterwards while Baker was in the bin. Michael Stevens missed the vital conversion in Baker’s absence -to leave the home side still eight points short.

The Eagles did have the last word in the last 90 seconds after Baker returned from the sin bin for Ronnie Palumbo to score one last converted try to bring the scores back to 40-38, but time ran out for the Eagles to pull off a win.

The win sent the Magpies back into the Shield top eight – at the expense of the Eagles, who scored 38 points for the second-straight week at home without winning. It was the Eagles’ fifth-straight Sydney Shield loss.

The Blacktown Workers came from 14-nil down to post their second-straight win with an upset 20-14 win over the Guildford Owls at McCredie Park last Sunday.

With former Asquith Magpie Lachlan Piper making a welcome return from injury for the Workers, it was Guildford that jumped out of the blocks to lead 14-nil after 20 minutes with tries to Rickard, Amanaki Manu and Jonoathan Mose.

The visitors then steadily ground their way back into the match with superb defence – plus tries to Daniel Cassone and Man Of The Match Jake Attard – to lead 20-14 with Blake Goodman landing four goals from four attempts including a key penalty goal to get the Workers well and truly off the bottom of the ladder.

St Marys again served notice to the rest of the competition with a resounding 38-14 win over Belrose at St Marys Leagues Stadium last Sunday.

It was a tight contest for the first 60 minutes, with Belrose leading 8-4 through tries to Clint Maguire and David Martin at half-time, despite again missing captain/coach James Mortimer on the field.

When Beau Abrahams levelled scores at 14-all with a try converted by Dave Marando to cancel out the tries scored by John Tuliatu, Peter Scanlan and Urima Toomalatai, a grandstand finish was on the cards.

However, a devastating last 20 minutes of attack from the Saints put Belrose to the sword and the game to bed.

Toomalatai and Tuliatu got their second tries, with Jamie Hill and Troy Brooks finishing the job as the Saints scored four converted tries and 24 unanswered points in those last 20 minutes to score a massive win.

Defending Premiers Wentworthville were too strong for a disappointing Hills District Bulls 36-10 at Ringrose Park last Sunday.

Ryan Burroughs and Regan Ronal both bagged doubles as the Magpies absorbed a strong Bulls start to score eight tries in their easy win. Wallace Tangiiti had an off day with the boot landing only two from eight to make the final score flatter the Bulls.

The Peninsula Seagulls struggled to beat an undermanned Auburn Warriors 30-28 in the match at North Sydney Oval last Sunday.

The Warriors – who thanks to injuries and other pull-outs only had one fresh reserve and just a 14-man rotation for the full 80 minutes as a result – really took it up to a lacklustre Seagulls outfit that were flat for a second straight week.

It appeared that it was business as usual as the Seagulls led 12-nil after converted tries to Richie Goodwin and Todd Wilson.

However, the Warriors got the match back to 12-all at half-time with two superb converted tries of their own to Jake Gleeson and Jamie Croker.

Converted tries to Nick Grant and Jake Pickering gave the Seagulls a 24-12 buffer 10 minutes into the second half and it looked again that the Seagulls would assert their dominance.

The Warriors came back a second time with tries to Yehya Masri and Connor Jones to set up the grand stand finish at 24-22 with 11 minutes left. Jones’ try was crucially not converted.

Goodwin’s second try with seven minutes left extended the Seagulls lead to 30-22 with Luke Martin’s conversion to ensure the two competition points.

Nonetheless, the Warriors came back one last time with a converted try to Anthony Minute with three minutes left to give the Seagulls one last scare at 30-28.

The Warriors could not make the most of one last set of six right on full-time – to leave the visitors to ponder what might have happened if they had arrived at Bear Park last Sunday with a full complement on their bench.

Finally, the Windsor Wolves made it back-to-back wins with a 60-nil dusting of wooden spoon favourites Asquith at Storey Park last Sunday.

After a tight first 20 minutes, the Wolves scored the first four of their 11 tries in the first half to lead 22-nil at the break, before going on with the job against their outclassed opponents in the second stanza.

Shaun Fitzgerald, Abraham Murdock, Ben Hudd and Dylan Robinson each got two tries for the Wolves, with Hudd kicking five goals for a personal tally of 18 points.

Mounites lead the Shield table on 18 points, with St Marys and the Seagulls giving chase on 16 points. Belrose and the dangerous Wentworthville are next on 14 points. Asquith are still winless after 10 games at the bottom of the table.

Another full round is set down for this weekend, with four games on Saturday and three games on Sunday. The Mounties versus Peninsula Seagulls match at Aubrey Keech Reserve on Saturday, and the Belrose showdown with Wentworthville at Lionel Watts Reserve on Sunday are the clear stand-out games of the weekend.

Guildford bye

As North Sydney were one of the teams to have a bye in the NSW Cup, Laurie Daley asked the bears to take on the Origin team this morning, meaning that the excess players that would normally play for Concord Burwood Wolves were unavailable and CBW are a different team without these guys.

Blacktown have entered the top 8 for the first time since round 1, while Auburn have moved into the top 4.

Heard a whisper last night that Asquith Sydney Shield could be pulling the pin this week after there massive loss on the weekend.

Anyone aware of what the punishment may be? a fine? just curious. Did Kingsgrove pull out of Shield early one season?

Yeah Kingsgrove pulled out in 2013. They started a match with 11 players. If memory serves me correctly Belrose lead 64-0 at half time when the match was called. Due to injuries Kingsgrove could not continue the match.
