As expected. Kingston better be off the field as soon as Seg is on. Can't have him in the forwards and waste that bench

Just got more excited about this then the FG side. If he tears up RG for a couple weeks it will be hard to keep him out of the FG side.

Yeah Round 1 team is nearly exactly as expected from before we even had injuries in trials and 9's. Manu is the only injured player I would expect in the team. The others are weeks away from a shot IMO.

Also the best thing about the 4.30 time slot is that we are on television nearly all day. The Under 20's and Reserves are being televised for us. So if it's pissing down as it did last weekend, I can still see all games at home. Unfortunately we can't make it to wet games with a 14 month old and a 2 month old.

Going to be interesting to see how Simmons fares without Whare inside of him.

He should still get plenty of opportunities with idris but Whare was in some rare form last year.

The major concern for me is the light back row. But not much we can do for now.

Also how long can we have two specialist hookers in the side? I hope Kingston doesn't play any time in the back row but at the same time that puts us down a reserve almost.

Anyway with all the injuries its still a pretty good looking team.

Can't wait.

As expected. Strong side. Maybe when Manu is back we can drop Kingston and shift Docker onto the bench.
That NSW Cup side is very strong. Bring Nabuli, Jennings, Roberts and Cartwright (Capewell?) and that side should be favourites.

The website has Ross and Latu instead of Ayoub and Dibeci.

Interesting Moseley gets the start over Foster.

Anyone know if Scarlett is injured?

As predicted. Poor backrow. Looking at other sides....I don't know, I just can't see us doing all that well if that is our go-to team for the season. Pace at the back is desperately needed.

We have a relatively strong forward pack, a quick/light i would say defensive minded second row, a conservative and decent in defense half, a 5/8 with a good kicking and passing game.

Solid wingers one attacking and one defensive centre both with the ability to set up tries.

We also have a deft fullback who will have to play incredibly well to keep his spot.

The only liabilities in that team are Soward and Moylans defense, with that in mind i would rather defensive centres that can slide quickly than bigger centres that have trouble shifting in defense.

After 25mins we take off Kingston and Kite, replace with Segeyaro and Plum which strengthens our attack and defense, after 30mins we bring on Peachey and Grant on for Mckendry and Docker this puts a fresh Segeyaro and Peachey against a large Newcastle forward pack on a heavy pitch that has absorbed 7 days of rain and 4 games in the 6 hours prior.

We have a far superior kicking game that will place the opposition deep in their own end more often than not which will put us in good stead as the knights will have to risk spreading it from their own end in the wet.

I don't see it being a disadvantage having a light, defensive second row in these conditions.

I do agree, we will need to be tactically spot on, as you outline above. We are not going to dazzle our way out of trouble.

Okay, just positive thoughts out of me from now on. Positive thought #1: Soward will be a lot better for us than many rival fans assume. And our reserve side looks brilliant.

they are a big side.Soward has a good kicking game that will turn them around.Losing mullen hurts there ability to turn us around. This could be where the game is won

Here's another positive thought. For a few years now we have consistently won the forward battle and spent a lot of time in the attacking zone. Not only should our pack be even stronger this year, but we may actually be privy to a half running a probing attacking set for once.

That aside, I think we have a strong defensive side here. Soward improved a great deal in the last few years and will be fine with Plum/Docker. Hopefully Share helps Mansour out defensively also. Given this I hope we see good attitude in defence.

Going to be interesting to see how Simmons fares without Whare inside of him.

Yeah I saw that and was all wtf? Simmons did a decent job and I've defended him being in the team but that depends on him having his combination with Whare. I don't expect him to be anywhere near as good with Idris.

Ah well. Interested to see what difference the new halves bring.
