Which iPhone do you have?

I had a 5, and I had to put my phone on Flight Mode before switching on the Wi-Fi because if not, my phone would claim I was using Wi-Fi data, when in fact it was draining my monthly data.

Wrong. Have my 6 plus on airplane mode and wifi is on

iPhone 6 shits on anything that Samsung make. They are also more secure and less susceptible to malware.
