Round 1 v Sharks

You guys need to stop cannibalising (is that even a word?)
Duges has only ever been a stop-gap fullback for us. His limited injury concerns over the last few years have come because we have played him at centre.
Dufty is a bloody good fullback. From what I've heard he is not the best human being, but as far as Rugby League goes, the kid can play.
I just think he needs to be soft-gelled upon.
This forum is way more entertaining than ours.

Definitely a word. To eat ones own.

But it’s okay, we’re not cannibalising. OT isn’t actually a fan of the dragons.

They just provide him with something to whine and complain about.

Well, something else to whine and complain about that isn’t me.

But agree with your Dufty sentiment. He can play.

Lots of fans turned on him after he made comments about the fans a couple of years ago.

You’re the one that is myopic.

I’m not blaming Dufty for the mistakes up front but they are a reality that has to be coped with as ii was when Dugan was our FB.

Dugan saved many many tries and really put his body on the line in defence and Dufty simply doesn’t do that up to this point of his career.

Dugan was limited in attack but was not deficient in defence and didn’t worry about self preservation in trying to stop tries.

The notion that Dufty is a better defender than Dugan was as our FB is simply laughable.
Good defensive skills is all about good technique and confidence. One a player has good defensive skills, he will have the confidence to defend. The problem is that this should have been taught and insisted on during the junior development stage of a players career, not during the players first grade stage.

Muzz he (Dufty) destroys us every-bloody-single-time. He is uncomparable (i dont think that is a word) to Duges right now as a fullback.
As far as whine and complain, if it was wine and complain I would understand.

Careful.. the old codger gets a bit temperamental if you mention anything about people drinking & posting..

Apparently nobody gets on the internet after a few drinks..
Well I cannot be careful after 13 brews. I can be be congenial, but if the switch flicks.... I dont really want to be nasty tonight, I just truly wish for a full on game on Sunday at our home ground.

Look, I’ll most likely have a couple of brews whilst watching tomorrow night’s season opener..

And Sunday night too..

I’m sure I’ll find my way onto one platform or another to inflict myself on the general population..

Yeah mate. Ever since the big fella passed I've had him up there. He was mates with my old man, if being mates means he kept him upright at the Workers Club.

Good lawd that must had been a job ! Still after a hard days work of keeping the younger firebrands in line he deserved an ale or two or . . .

Just the type of chap that both Cronulla and our mob needs to inject a bit of good old fashioned fire into our packs .

He was just one of those guys no-one ever f**ked with. There was respect.
Can you imagine any of todays players, from any team, having the respect that one of those tough old nuts commanded.

Just on Dugan:
Since joining the Sharks he has played fullback on 19 occasions:

2018 - 6 games 5 wins 1 loss
2019 - 12 games 5 wins 7 losses
2020 - 1 game 1 loss

He scored 3 tries at fullback for the Sharks.

The 1 game at fb in 2020 was against the Panthers who scored 10 tries that night (inc 4 on debut to Staines).

Interesting & thank you for obtaining..

@Old Timer why would you consider this type of defence as better than Dufty’s?

When was the last time he let in 10 tries?

Exactly.
He is a great Centre these days, not so good a fullback.
I do admit that Panther game was fun, I was there and i thought I saw the team to win everything. They looked pretty damn good.

Gareth, besides Kevin Ryan, who were the hard nuts from Saints, and/or Illawarra, that fit that mould. I am not taking the piss here, I really want to know.
I know all the Cronulla hard buggers.
