Pearce is more than limited.

Reynolds and Townsend wouldn't be on a million.

We need to change our game plan. We aren't good enough to go around teams.

Play through the middle. Have our forwards offloading and get support players around them. Edwards, Cleary and Maloney are all good support players.

Pearce has a good running game and decent kicking game. Can struggle when the pressure is on. Does the basics well but the x factor stuff is RTS did at Roosters and Ponga will do at the Knights. That should be where Cleary aims to get too

Gotta give credit to Parra as well. Thought they played really tough despite losing Brown early. While Jennings made a few errors, he looked dangerous most times he touched the ball.

We were terrible but it is only Rnd 1, plenty of time to come good.

of course. Kikau back will help and a dry track BUT generally the issues we saw are the issues we have had for the last few years

How much would you give Cleary per season if you were our CEO?

It is a tough one. He is an origin half and using Taylor as a guide given the same age and potentially both being the Origin halves for 10 years. Personally though I think Blore is a better option with Luai. So I wouldn't of re-signed him so quickly without looking around.

You probably have to pay them both the same the lack of spark from Hooker and FB for me is the issue. Neither hooker or neither FB option seem to be an answer

Though I would of hired Maguire as coach. Proven winner and got the most out of at the time an unproven Souths spine. brought Ivan across in another role

I wouldn't of released Peachey/CHN early either. Not upgraded RCG or JFH yet. That should see us have a stronger squad then we have atm

Give me an answer based on what you see. Don't worry about outside influences.

How much do you think he is worth per season?

If our pack plays like shit all season our halves really don't matter. We had no momentum at all and our halves were playing with no space.

Doesn't help when a great back 3 put in such terrible performances too. Honestly only a few guys can go home knowing they did their job as best they could. Tamou being one of them which is a nice change.

Hodkinson won an origin series too.

Seriously Cleary did hardly anything in Origin. We panicked and re-signed him for too much.

yeah throw in his age was always going to go for too much. Personally Luai/Maloney would of been my halves this year. Blore taking over from when Maloney goes and use the money saved for Isaac Luke and Klemmer

Should be on Luai money... I will guess that is around $400k.

Personally...Needed to use to money to get Klemmer/Luke here at whatever cost to the so called 'stars'

My number would be 600-700k right now. (You need to take some potential into consideration)

I think he has the potential to go up to 800-900k range

The Cleary situation is more about how it constrains our cap. He can play better than he did yesterday if he’s behind a more dominant pack. No doubt about it.

Tamou was outstanding, he really put in and became the forward leader we expect of him. However we should be expecting dominant performances from him every week given his salary. That is what the highest paid middles in the NRL do each week. Let's see how the next month goes with him but promising signs yesterday.

RCG has completely lost it. He tries to act all tough by putting a big shot on every now and then but really he is another Napa. Struggles to make over 100m per game on a consistent basis. For what he is paid he is not delivering. I won't be surprised if this is his final year at the club.

Cleary has extremely poor peripheral vision, that will never develop. What you see now is what you will get with Cleary for the next 5 years.
All good points and well made. If we want value out of Cleary, it might be at number 9. Tough, good tackler, good kicker, reasonable speed (mind you, being slow never stopped Cameron Smith) and his passing is OK.

If he stays at 7 we must pray when Maloney leaves that Luai steps up to become a genius number 6 or we will struggle to score points.

Watched the reply, even more disappointed than yesterday. Eels forwards showed a lot more enthusiasm and grunt.

Soft errors in the first half really killed us. We all knew it would be raining but each member of the backline had 1-2 howlers. Very poor performance from both wingers in particular.

RCG will almost certainly spend some time in reserve grade this year. Upside is we will have a bit more depth during Origin, no chance he makes the NSW 17.

I also think Cleary could be useful at 9 which allows Maloney to be the dominant half and Luai to chime in when he sees something.

If people are serious about wanting to lose Cleary I'd go after Brooks (albeit he could want just as much money too).

Cleary isn't going anywhere. The club has pretty much built the next few years around the Cleary's.

People just want value for money. A return on investment. It is the same with RCG.

Gus Gould came in and got rid of Lewis, Jennings and Coote because of their contracts being too high. He then goes and gives a million a season to Cleary and RCG about 700k.
