Give me an answer based on what you see. Don't worry about outside influences.

How much do you think he is worth per season?
In my view he is a mid level halfback, worth $700k a season, assuming tier 1 are on $1 million. He is still young and can improve, but I have your reservations that his peripheral vision will hold him back. That has been apparent since he debuted and all our red zone stats support that conclusion.

I remember Cleary made something like 40 tackles on debut against Melbourne so he certainly has potential at hooker given his workrate.

Maybe Katoa returning could help a fraction because he's always been good at popping an offload when needed or spotting potential out of dummy-half, albeit not that consistently, but it'll definitely be an improvement on bringing Luai on at 9 (too many times yesterday he ran first or picked the ball up before passing which isn't his fault he is just not a hooker).

As much as I'd like to see Cleary move to 9 it just won't happen. He is our wonderkid and paid to play 7.

One positive was that we saw Maloney take over early last year. We'd be crazy not to do that again if we play this way again next week.

Another positive, Luai looks like a 7 to me anyway. He is confident enough to run the team. With Maloney out or when he replaces him in 2020 he might get the chance to run the show.

Cleary isn't going anywhere. The club has pretty much built the next few years around the Cleary's.

People just want value for money. A return on investment. It is the same with RCG.

Gus Gould came in and got rid of Lewis, Jennings and Coote because of their contracts being too high. He then goes and gives a million a season to Cleary and RCG about 700k.

And the long Cartwright deal, we got lucky on that.

Cleary I think could also play 6, a running style.

If people are serious about wanting to lose Cleary I'd go after Brooks (albeit he could want just as much money too).

Just curious.....how exactly WOULD you "go after Brooks"?....he's excited out of his skin to be exactly where he has just re signed longterm...you're not suggesting he break a just signed contract to link wirh a Cleary are you?
As someone else said most clubs would love to have ( young) Cleary...with Ivan there you would have more chance of moving panthers leagues club than moving nathan out of the 7 jersey...let alone out of the club. Nathan will be fine...Jimmy's durability will be the issue ..the edge runners are not getting any smaller

Yeah look if it ever did happen everyone missed the boat because he's essentially the Cleary of the Tigers in terms of being their future so it was wishful thinking more than anything. Jimmy will move on end of this year possibly otherwise next year, I still think we need him there for his experience and game management - we saw what he could do last year in the opening 10 rounds.

Gus not paying Minimum wage. Paying overs for our current wingers are the big issue for me.

Those guys can always improve to a standard worth the money or be moved on. You are weakening the rest of the team until that time.

The sooner Gus and co develop a win now mentality the better. Blake is being wasted

The game was waiting for us to take the win.

For the money, hype, potential, our halves should have got us home.

Thought Maloney tried but Cleary was off.

I'm happy to put it down to one of those games and move on. Thought we looked a little under done across the park.

Maloney was pretty good in defence. He was singled out but came up with some good tackles.

Tamau - well done, he will get his State of Origin position back with that sort of form.

RCG - enough said.

He most have broken his heart when he broke his jaw. That's f**king pathetic.

One more gutless effort like that and he deserves to be dropped. Hell he deserves it as is.

Jimmy is the experience in the side and you need him in there but he's going to finish this season ( hopefully he finishes it) with more studmarks per square inch on his body than any player in history...protecting him will become a real defensive issue ...Brooks and Nathan are good one on one defenders on big men...Maloney reels out of every attempt with just more pain. He held up well first game but for how long..

It only one game but there is an old saying in rugby league.
You can't win a premiership in the first month of the season but you can certainly lose one.
The roster we have I thought we played abysmal yesterday. If things don't improve quick we will be in for long frustrating year.

Those numbers are different from the NRL website. He has 54m and 40 tackles there. Not 34m and 34 tackles. Who do you believe? That's a big difference.

I know for a fact Fox Sports Lab rewatches the game the next morning to correct stats. A lot of mistakes are done when watching it live.

Not sure if NRL does it.

Either way, 34 or 54 metres are putrid from a 'rep' forward against one of the worst packs in the comp.
