He reminds me of a mixture between Jonathon Thurston and Terry Lamb. His support plan has the potential to make a HUGE difference to the team this year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we really haven't had a great support player for a while - someone who bobs up at the sniff of a break.

Agree there. Many times we would make a line break but didn't have the speed and/or support to score the try. Milford should help a lot with that.

Kevvy Walters was probably the last good support player. Locky wasn't too bad either early in his career.

Round 1 gives no indication of how the season will unfold, but f**k me this has been the most ploddish start to a season I can remember. Boys v men at the moment.

Little hard to judge the backs on that game, since the forwards got destroyed and the whole game plan seemed to go up the middle. New recruits certainly didn't do anything to help with that.

Also, whats up with Thaiday hitting the deck more or less as soon as he gets to the defense? Your quick play the balls aren't that good Sam.

look Bennett has had what? 3 months with this squad.
and that's the best he can come up with.
drop maranta
drop thaiday. I've defended him for long enough. as soon as he feels any contact he dives at the ground.

Yep - Thaiday was terrible. Compare his performance with Gillett. Actually Thaiday was almost a joke after so many quick surrender non-runs.

Too many errors in the game tonight. We lost contact with the game on the back of them. I felt 20 minutes in that we were keeping pace then it all started to unravel.

Watching the team tonight it was the same problem as last year, they don't know how to get out of the situation they were in when things started to spiral out of control. There's not enough leadership in the halves right now and that shows with the complete lack of direction.

Jack Reed - I don't know why we are still going with him.

Thaiday - Might be his last bronco contract, captaincy stripped & has been in descending form for 3 years now. 1st game and he looks like he does not want to put in.

If McC is going to come off we need a hooker on the bench. Parker at dummy half just is not good enough, plus we lose his hit ups/offloads in the forwards

Well that was pretty sad. Looks like the bunnies will again be the real deal this year. Saying that kicking out twice from the kick off and dropping heaps of balls on the first tackle didn't help.

I'd say Jack Reed will struggle to keep his place in the team on that performance. His lack of pace led directly to two tries. I was happy with Milford in his first game but found it odd that Hunt seemed content to catch and pass all night and not really take on the line.

For the first time in two years I thought Maranta actually had an alright game.

Anyway

Pretty ordinary tonight to many mistakes. Souths halves got the ball moving well with out the handling errors.

On the positive, Souths 13+ was the easiest money of the week.

3- McGuire
2- Glenn
1- Hodges maybe?

-3 Maranta (never to play again)
-2 Reed (to reserve grade you go son)
-1 equal Thaiday, Gavet, Blair (put in son for crying out loud).

Not really sure what Maranta did wrong TBH. Not saying Vidot wouldn't have been better, cause we probably could have used his runs.

However, Maranta was far from the worst out there.

Hey I needed a good laugh after tonight.

Lets go through the tape...was it his great defence letting in tries, his non catching of bombs (leading to the souths first try)...or and I loved this the most the comical chasing after a kick only to be pantsed my Johnson whilst being 10m behind:lol:

Thought Maranta was fine tonight. Who are these great game winning wingers we have that Bennett won't play?

We have one of the worst backline lineups in the game as far as talent goes. Hodges is old, slow and 1 game away from a career ending injury and he is head and shoulders above the the rest of them, that's depressing.

Well Vidot for one. Eden could play FB (injecting a bit more speed) with Kahu either at centre or wing. There are options. Bennett went safe, safe, and safe and look what happened. You don't reach the top 6 playing safe!

Then we have the Milford fiasco, and goodness I hate Phil Gould but he is right. Even if Miford is going to be a 5/8th (and I'm hardly convinced) he needs 3-4 seasons of First Grade playing fullback before then. His passing game is rubbish and he has no idea how to run and create lines yet.
