After all the inquisitions about centres not passing it no-one is going to mention Burton's at the start of the game. Easily the clearest example of a bombed try because a player hogged as we've had this season.

That happens so many times in a game, to cherry pick it once and say its a penalty is stupid IMO. Its not dangerous at all. I can understand the crackdown on high shots but what Martin did was fine, if they are going to pull that up every time someones forearm slides up to someones neck the game is going to change, when is the last time you saw someone get hurt or knocked out by a ball carriers forearm? It is very rare and already gets penalised when it does happen, there is no need to change the way that part of the game is handled.

For better or worse they are trying to change the game. They came out and said they'd target high contact and did that for 7 games before ours.

Ok well they didnt go close to pulling up every time someone did what Martin did, they pulled it up once out of 8 games

The only reason anyone's complaining about the Martin penalty is because team bias.

Agree with the rest. Tedesco particularly is creating a dangerous situation by squating into tackles.

No it is an issue because it wrongly cost a team a try...Imagine it costing someone in a big game. He won't get charged.

It goes with Townsend. Not charged and changed the tempo of that game

You shouldn't go back for that thing. If the ref sees it at the time fair enough but shouldn''t be a video ref call

This is the way the NRL works. Last week we had their officials blunder in failing to act on foul play, so the reaction to that was more sin bins, charges and send offs than the game has ever seen. The giveaway was sanctioning a coach for saying exactly what their own Head of Football said- the ref and (especially) the bunker f**ked up. We can only hope it settles down and common sense prevails, but this mob aren't known for their common sense.

As said...No charge for Martin. Not even a fine such a rubbish call

Thought the Martin call was a shocker. Game was otherwise business as usual. A bit boring actually.

Looking forward to a real test next week against Souths.

Bullshit it hit his chest first there was nothing wrong with it. Youre allowed to put your forearm into someone’s chest, it was a ridiculous call.

You're allowed to run with a raised forearm to protect yourself and the ball fullstop.

What you can't do is change the position of the arm/elbow at the point of contact/impact - that is classed as striking - and that's regardless of where the impact is. This is similar to changing your stride to use your knees to break tackles.

Honestly didn't get a good look at the Martin incident - I was doing dinner/bath-time etc at the time - but from the one look I got, it was a harsh call. Looked like he tried to palm the guy off with his hand, and misjudged, made contact with the forearm to the chest, and then it slipped up.

My biggest issue with the game has always been the inconsistency. It seems to go beyond the small amount of human error you'd expect. It's genuinely like different games have a different standard of officiating.

Agree. Its bad enough week to week changes in officiating, but game to game and its a farce. I understand that due to the fact its a different ref each game, human nature dictates things wont be identical but these merkins need some guidance on the application of the games laws and ensure consistency.

The Liam Martin incident is a head scratcher, the To'o 'third man in' over the sideline is even worse.
I am happy if these are the rules the NRL want to abide by, but stick to it every f**king week and apply the same scrutiny.

Shit, theres more embarrassing shit in our game that could use a review. The stripping is a blight on the game. Nothing uglier than the gang tackle, players peeling off and then its a fight for the ball like two brothers fighting for the one Nintendo controller.
