If i could like this a thousand times I would.

I just did a breakdown of points per minute:

Brad Schneider has played 134 minutes. Panthers scored 3 tries in that time. Averaging 1 try every 44.6 minutes. (Against teams averaging 10.8th on ladder)


Panthers have played 586 minutes without Brad Schneider. Panthers have scored 33 tries in that time. Averaging 1 try every 17.7 minutes.


Takes us 2.5 times as long to score a try when Schneider is on the field. In the 4 games he wasn’t on bench either, its a try every 16 minutes against teams averaging 6.5 on the ladder.

Toelau has been on the field for 2 tries in 2 games.

Schneider has been on the field for 3 tries in 5 games.

Neither would be my 14. Sommerton > Cole personally. But theres a pretty decent sample size that shows how Brad Schneider makes the team less effective. Toelau isn’t great. Im not saying he is. But he isn’t as bad as Schneider.

The stats for Schneider:

Panthers with no Schneider - 20 tries in 4 games (average 5.0)

Panthers with Schneider (but on bench) - 13 tries in 5 games (average 2.6)

Panthers with Schneider on field - 3 tries in 5 games (average 0.6)

You can easily see how poor we look when he is on the field. Stats back up how I see it. I don’t want Toelau into our top 17 though. But after a big win, surely one of the guys who filled in should keep the 14. Kenny deserves the 9. But that 14 is somehow given to someone who has done nothing to deserve it.

For Toelau I am torn between him and Laurie as third choice utility. Laurie has proven handy a few times.

Good stuff I'll have a closer look at this later.

14 cover will remain a halfback. Ivan is spooked after round 3 when Cleary got HIA'd. And Laurie is the worst of the 3 at 9. Cole the only guy I haven't seen there yet.

Well 14/17 aside which Ivan won’t really use anyway, I like the side. Patea another chance to lock in his position, To’o/Kenny back drastically improves our territory game and edge/middle defence. Otherwise keep it the same. Get the guys some time with a solid combination, they haven’t had it all year.

On the utility it really depends what Ivan plans to do with them. If it’s pure halves/hooker cover then I think Schneider is the safer bet because he’s ok defensively. If they want that guy to come on and add something for 15-20 minutes, it’s Toelau because he has a bit more speed and instinct. They’re both bog average. Sommerton is the best player but without Luai I don’t think Ivan risks not having even a crap backup halfback in the 17.

It looks like Mav is hurt as he isnt named anywhere, and if hes out there isnt really another backrower to bring up if you look at the FG extended bench and the NSW cup side. With Garner, Paps and Martin in the starting 13 and sorro and mav out our only options for a bench backrower are to debut someone or paly Lindsay/Henry on an edge like he has in the past.

Given the options we have Milky on the bench in case garner needs to shift into the pack is better than say Hasset debuting or Henry/Lindsay playing edge. The starting cup backrowers are Hasset and Riley Wake this week so there really is no one there with sorro/Mav out.

Schneider is a good 7 if he has a excellent 5/8 next to him. He can't play Hooker, he has very slow Axel to get down and up.

Looks like Lipowicz is also out. He played 80 on the weekend so not sure if he was injured/suspended? He'd be a guy I wouldn't mind seeing get a 15 minute stint in NRL but not sure he's allowed given squad status. In the past Ivan would have gone Eisenhuth in this situation. He still may come game day but interesting he seems to have fallen down the pecking order.

i can see the squad rolling out 1-17 as milky does cover backs and Paps Marton both can play big minutes.

Townsville predicted 23 degrees at kickoff - will humidity be a factor this time of year up there

i think we are fit enough to cover losing someone mid game, but we have had HIA's in the first 10 mins multiple times this year - cant help but feel we are light on the bench especially with the Cows pack

hopefully Nathan targets these big boys and keeps kicking early to exhaust their big boys

I like Lipowicz, he can tackle. havent seen him play this year so not sure how he is going but he looked rock solid last season after moving up to cup.

The real test for Eisenhuth will be Origin. If he doesnt get a run at that point I'd say hes done here. He's always been serviceable as a straight replacement for Yeo, but I think Smith is just better in that specific role anyway.

How many games do we need to see our attack flow without Schneider in the team, and for it to get clunky and non existent with him in it?

He makes the entire team worse.

The fact that nuffy has a ring is borderline criminal.

I'd say garner either goes to bench or backrow and McLean or Jenkins into the starting side.We need to beat the cows it's a 4 point game with the bye the week after.
