Vanilla. Do we have anyone at the club with killer instinct, win at all costs mentality? This isn't the time to be diplomatic.

I like Hook's wisdom and calm demeanour let's see if the players have learnt some new techniques over the week but this submission to the bosses and our inability to lure proper stars has me a little concerned
I like his style & have no doubt the players know where they stand with him.
I would also like to think that he has privately spoken with those at headquarters & let his feelings known.

It’s a real shame Billy Burns in his short Dragons career has been forced to play in a position to which he is not best suited.

I have read numerous posts from frustrated Dragons fans writing him off already and that is a shame because he really has all the attributes to be a very good NRL player if given the opportunity in his best position.

He will do his best, I wish him well and hope he comes out the other end once you get some players back.

Don’t write him off just yet, he is a great kid, just needs some time in his best position when things are going your way.
Thanks mate for your input.
I’ve said that I can see a footballer in him but obviously time & the opportunity to play where he’s suited is what’s required.
He’s not a centre & bagging him for doing his best there is disappointing.

My only worries are
1. Cody at fullback in defence and I’m not so sure about his hands around grubbers and catching of the highball is probably worse than MD
2. Max also for diffusing bombs and what I’ve seen of him the last week or so in defence is not good
3. and then there’s Billy Burns if he plays in the centre
4. and then if it rains

Come on dragons you can surprise me
We need to get one back on them

I know there world's apart but I watched Ramsay absolutely kill it in Flegg I've not been super impressed with him on the wing so far but I'm expecting a big game from him tonight as fullback is his preferred spot.

I have to agree with all your other points though.

Kilkenny agree ( and you would have seen him more than most on here ) . For me if ( or when ? ) he puts on another 10kgs and his body fully develops he will be a vastly different proposition. Obviously has good ball skills but its a pity he couldn't develop these under the shade of reserve grade and not the glare of NRL and whilst playing out of position. The big plus for him is experience, the negative is his confidence. Dont think he will ever be a 3 or 4 but that's how the cards have landed.

I'd like to see more of that expansive backline play that Hunt was organising last week. Should work even better with 13 players !

I can't put my finger on it but it was as if they threw the plan away when fui went off. It really looked like it in the huddle of that try, some serious reshuffling was being discussed. We seem to be a team that is influenced by the quality of the opposition. We play ok in most games against quality teams but match the scrappy grind of the lesser teams. Hope we buck that trend tonight. I have belief we will.

I actually second your opinion. I see something. Happy to see him exposed to first grade. I wrote him off after his debut but shouldn't have.

BML, My biggest concern from the moment the team was posted is your Point 3. This is not a comment on Burns as a footballer but what I have seen of him in the centres. In terms of your other points:

1. I haven't seen Cody play at FB but in terms of bombs and tackling on the wing I have thought he has been mostly good. In terms of grubbers he has the intensity to be an improvement on Dufty. But I expect Dufty's loss will be felt without him chiming into the backline and setting up the wingers.
2. I believe Max has handled wing quite well including catching bombs whereas playing centre in the 12 man farce last week he was lost, hardly laying a hand on an attacker in possession.
4. No comment.

Considering the players unavailable I feel Griffin has done a good job. Players like Ford and Faama may grab the opportunity to show their ability. I would put Ellis and J.Hunt in the "won't let anyone down" category. But the absence of Dufty's input and the weakness at centre limits my confidence of victory.

Interesting side note to tonights game.

We have 4 players who haven't scored a 1st grade try:
Max F, Lawrie, JHunt & Ellis.

Poasa hasn't scored a try since 2018
Alvaro hasn't scored a try since 2019
Ford hasn't scored a try since 2019

Macca, Burns, Alvaro, JHunt, Ellis & Poasa have never scored a try for the Dragons.

I hope 'try line fever' doesn't enter their minds tonight.

Waiting for macca to throw a dummy close to the line and score.
Hasn't happened for us yet.

I’m only judging Ramsey from his trial game in first grade and some of his recent efforts in taking a bomb getting shoved out the way and or dropping it behind him
I too saw Cody in JF and how he was electric
I love him as a player but don’t think he’s fully fit (i.e. that run to the try line last week he just appeared hampered even other runs he is not that balanced, I think injury niggles!)

It would be great to see our ‘ bit and pieces ‘ team get over the top of Cronulla tonight and restore some much needed confidence back into the team .

If we can get back to having a solid defense then we will definitely be in with a chance . Who knows , the refs may decide to give our boys a bit of latitude to make up for last weeks shocking display of one sided refereeing .

Dragons by 2 :innocent:

After watching the lads change tactics after the send off and be inches away from at least being equal with MEL, do we try it again.

The team showed heart all the way so, if we either let loose or get dirty in trench warfare we are in with a show.

Can't let them get a roll on and I know it's not flashy however, I'd love to see an defence at all costs game with a low scoring win.
