Round 14 Parra vs Storm 14 June Game Day Thread

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy was left fuming at several key moments that went against his side following the Storm's 26-22 defeat at the hands of Parramatta on Monday night.

Mahe Fonua was denied the match-winning try in the final minute after the video review confirmed the on-field decision that the young Victorian had come up centimetres short of being the hero.

The footage appeared inconclusive and the video referee backed the no-try decision made by Ashley Klein.

It was not so much Klein's decision to rule against his side but rather the rule itself that had the master coach battling to contain his frustration.

"I just think it puts a lot of pressure on the referee to have to make a decision there," Bellamy said.

"The referees have to make a decision in that case but sometimes they are in no position to make a good decision, they've probably gone on how the ball came out or whatever.

"I've been saying for a few years I don't think that should happen. If they've got a clear view, yeh without a doubt, but that would be really hard there with so many bodies around.

"The old benefit of the doubt to the attacking side has obviously gone which is fine if that is the way they want to go as long as they're consistent with it."

For the record Klein was positioned correctly on the dead ball line.

After he had said his piece on that incident Bellamy then turned his attention to the game's second controversial moment that occurred 10 minutes from time.

It came as Ryan Morgan cut the Storm lead to just two points while Melbourne youngster Richard Kennar was left hunched over at the 40 metre line.

Kennar had picked up a head knock but play was not stopped for four tackles as the Storm were left a man down while Morgan crossed.

"The other disappointing thing while I'm having a whinge is the try when Ryan Morgan scored. We had a guy who got a head knock, staggered back up, then stayed on the ground," Bellamy said.

"Most of the time they stop the game but it went on for four tackles, I am sure someone has seen him stumble.

"I've got no problem if they're not going to stop the game when someone stumbles but you either stop the game for everybody or we don't stop it at all.

"I don't expect the referees to see that straight away, that is not a criticism of them but I'm sure a touch judge or a referee would have seen that and he's laying on the ground three tackles later."

Melbourne remains a game inside the top four despite the loss and will face the top-of-the-table Broncos next Sunday at AAMI Park.

The Storm scored due to this exact scenario in our game at Pirtek. Fa'aoso was laid out deep in their half as we had to defend as a 12-man line for the entire set with no time ever getting blown off.

Suck it up Bellamy.

If it was a double movement then a penalty would have been awarded. I don't think it was a double movement; I'm 90% sure that under the rules a double movement requires you to lift the ball and promote it; basically making a second attempt at grounding it; Fonua's effort was all in one motion.

To answer your other question. Yes the Tigers were good and Souths were absolutely terrible. Losing Sam Burgess has just been one of our problems but its no excuse - sort of similar to the eels losing Hayne; both clubs knew that they were losing their respective players well before the season started. However, a lot of people seem to overlook the fact that we have also lost Teo, Tuqiri, Auva and Kyle Turner - all part of our premiership winning team. Add to that injuries to the likes of Glenn Stewart (who we should never have signed) and Adam Reynolds and its becomes very hard for us to compete. In saying that, that is only the tip of the iceberg..I could go on for ages we have that many problems..but that is for another thread.

I thought the obstruction call for the try was a fair call based on previous decision this season. Basically, these days any time a decoy runner makes contact with a defender alarm bells start going off in the video ref's box.
Im 90% sure the defender made contact with the decoy runner. Wrong again.

I absolutely despise the whinging cheating prick, he has not done one positive thing for the game of RL. In fact it's far poorer for all the grubby BS he has brought into the game. Hope he chokes on a bowl of dicks tonight.

I've just re-watched it half a dozen times on the Fox Sports website and I don't think he has lost control over it; he has at least one hand on the ball at all times. In saying that I do agree that Melbourne shouldn't have been awarded that try earlier in the game for the accidental offside.

probably no downward pressure. He was holding it like a cake

There is only one lingering question after this game; who is suffering from a greater degree of brain damage? Casper or El Diablow?

When El Diablo starts posing as his own wife then we will have a candidate.

At least he remains a virgin even in his internet alter ego.

Still can't get over how that storm off side try was given a try.
I can take the ref getting it wrong, but when it's the video ref and we looked at it the number of times we did and to still get it wrong. It's becoming a disgrace!

I asked this question before, do you know the actual rule and what it says?

Mr Bellamy seems to be confused.
The 'Benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking team' rule hasn't been in effect for at least a couple of years now.

f**ken whinger.

On a positive note, with just over half the season gone, everyone outside of the Top 6 doesn't even have a 50% win record and we're only one win behind the team running 7th.

It's a crazy close comp for those last 2 spots.

Having said that I'd be surprised if the Dogs and the Panthers missed the Top 8.

Remember in the 06 semi against these scumbags when Morro wasn't given the BOT to win the game????

Anyway he's whinging about his player Being concussed when we scored a try but no one seemed to care when they scored a try against us when Ritchie Fass was knocked unconcious And no one held up play.

There were times that the forwards were throwing short interchange passes like the dogs. I really hope wewe see more of that
