Round 16 vs Eels

Wow! They never looked like winning that one, totally out played by parramatta for 75min but still hung in there and jagged a win.
Even the play for Duftys try should have broken down when Hunt went down the blindside but they found a way to win it.

I think sometimes a win like that can do more for moral than a 50 point flogging. Very important win

You guys are all dreamers saying well done, we pulled it off, great work.....what a joke.

They are LAST.
Wake up.

Yes we won, but what a shambles.

Fair enough if it was against a top 6 team.

But it was against the laughing stock of 2018.

Can't stand desperate supporters.

This is why we Dragons fans are the absolute worst in the NRL. Down on troops, fatigued, our halfback’s confidence shot, against a willing opponent on a cold wet night, with rain being the great equaliser, and we find a way to win when behind against all odds, and still, STILL, people complain.

Get real.
Knights, rabbits, raiders smashed the eels.....and even damn Manly put 50 on them.

Fine to win ugly vs top 6 teams, but vs the last team.....total BS excuses.

If you can't see what's coming, I guess you soon will.

You seriously think that guy is a Dragons fan?

JDHD, don't bother mate. The guy is a Penrith fan trolling.
I thought it was a great comeback win. We were flat from kickoff and still found a way to get home. Mate I jumped so far out my seat when Dufty scored that try, I am still buzzing!

Yeah good win in the end, but god it was clear that half the team needed a rest.

Thought the younger players might have had a bit more enthusiasm when running but I guess Parra did dominate us across the park and we did a lot of tackling practice. Take the win but need to freshen up the players before the finals.

We’ve also put 30+ on Manly, storm, broncos, sharks, knights. Beat roosters 4 tries to 1. 1 and 1 with Souths. There a point there too.
Early days Damo. Have you noticed that a few of these teams have lifted significantly since the early rounds? Roosters and Storm will be hard to beat if we played like we did last night. I wouldn't discount the Broncs either. I predicted a win against the Eels but didn't think it would be that bloody close.

Under all the circumstances, that's the most important win in years, one that will bond the squad no end.

Finding a way to win - and believing you can.

Best mental therapy possible.

It smacks of a changing team culture, and should at last give Mary the confidence to utilise more of his squad.
A great forward pool is now there for the finals - bar injury.
Now blood some reserve backs for insurance ASAP - then the personnel settings might be just about as good as it can get with this squad.

Then it's a matter of honing tactics, game plans & selecting horses for courses as they say.
But that's another ball game.

I didn't even see the game & I'm still buzzing

Totally wrapped with that win. I thought we were gone with 20 minutes to go. Parra's first try was from a forward pass. It is probably the only break Mannah will make all year too. Parra's third try was also due to a dubious penalty.

We don't play well from behind. We are good front runners.

Dufty was a match winner tonight and clear best St George player tonight. I think his confidence will continue to grow. The kick return that he split Parra open and made it back to around their 20 meter mark was good to watch. I want to see more of him making breaks in open play.

Host looked to handle first grade well tonight and Lucky also did too.

I am not taking too much notice of Parra's position on the ladder. Tonight they had their best backline in. They started the season off as 4th favourites for the comp. There are no easy games. I am very happy with the 2 points.
Good summary.

100% agree. Really impressive performance.
Especially seeing the yong blokes really step up. Lawrie looked fast and capable. Luc was as good as I’ve seen in firsts too. Committed, backing up on the inside, running with intent. And showed great hands and partnership with Dufty when he nearly put him away. Would’ve been a great try but for desperate and pretty lucky scramble by French I think?

I think it was Norman that knocked the ball out of Duff’s hands, but yeah, loved the confidence to try a trick play that looked almost exactly like that one they used in the Reggie’s semi last year.

My take always
  • The coach should now be more comfortable playing the younger guys in more games and for longer minutes
  • We should now include the young blokes in the attacking structures to ensure they are indeed “part of the team” and not just reserves
  • The blokes that backed up need to be congratulated on their resilience
  • Congrats to the coaching staff and roster as they have learnt how to win ugly
  • We do need to improve in a lot of areas to be real contenders but it has to be acknowledged not losing is a very good platform to build on
  • Our medical / HPU staff are doing a fantastic job
  • Give James Graham life membership and a guaranteed role at the club when he hangs up his boots
OT I think the decision to send hpu guys over to Denver to personally look after Gareth and sir James was a master stroke by the coaching staff
