He was absolutely effing horrible the first forty tonight.

He was, but how often is he this bad? I'd go as far to say tonight was his worst game for us that I can remember. In the four years he's been at the club he's been consistently solid, I think that's enough to put in the effort to retain him.

I'm not going to stop acknowledging reality.

And honestly, I am really scared for the future of this club.

I actually met with M Gids a few weeks ago to offer some help with strategic planning, including TPAs and a bit of outside the square stuff.

He was super keen on what I was proposing and apparently the board are too, but I just can't see us as a club fixing the major issues we face, as they are external - and no amount of management expertise or coaching nous can out-flank such an institutionalised disadvantage.

We can only keep trying.

Gus is struggling with 3rd party deals as well.

A bloke putting negotiations on hold to prove his worth just piled up a heap of shit for everyone to watch. He plays better than he showed but let's be realistic, he aint no star, never has been, never will be. A senior player needs to be a whole lot better than that, even when he's off his game.

I don't give two shits about any other clubs woes. If the club needs anything it is an acknowledgment that something is very very rotten about the way the NRL are running the show. I agree with Macavity. Until we find a way to make TPAs happen then we are going to win many more spoons. Every other club has at least one superstar player. We have none.

I'm in two minds about what I think we should do with Feeney. Seeing he's clearly not up to it part of me thinks he needs to be put back in NSW Cup to get a proper grasp of fullback, work on his handling, positioning, etc. That would also allow us to get Gagai out of the defensive line.

On the other hand though if the plan is for Feeney to be fullback long-term then chopping and changing the side when we're trying to form new combinations would be counter productive.

My fear is that we'll invest too much patience with him and he'll never be up to it. He's never even played fullback as a junior.

They are trying mate, and I understand making some headway, but even if we get something realistically achievable in place it will reduce the gap by maybe 20%, not eliminate it. Might be good enough for 12th.

I would leave Feeney there. He had a bad game yes, but we trained him there all off season, Brown obviously thought he was up to it and worth putting there. We need to give him a fair run (at least half a season) before giving up. It isn't like getting rid of him is going to be a magic fix anyway.

I don't want to give up on him - but with other players getting dropped for much less I'm not sure how much leeway we can give him in first grade. He obviously needs time but a player really shouldn't have so many handling errors in first grade - regardless of their position. If that were Sione or Mamo for example - they'd be dropped asap under Brown's regime.

As long as he shows he's learning from his mistakes i'll be happy to persist as to not disrupt the work we've already done in the pre season on their combinations.

Have you read Gus' article? It's obvious Penrith can't compete with the top 5 of 6 clubs and the points he is pushing is that the inflation of player salaries is now out of control and can not be sustained for too much longer under current TPA rules. He's also asking why the NRL can't publish the "true" amount each team has to spend on players as the NRL keep pushing that it is an even competition and all teams are "equal' due to the salary cap when they are clearly far from it.

Yes he has his own agenda but it is an agenda 10 or so other clubs will be very happy he has pushed for them in that article.

I agree with Gus 100%. It's certainly gotten out of control - you only need to look at the Tapine situation to see that. For a kid of his lack of experience/profile he's being paid in a ball park close to what a club's marquee player was on not even 10 years ago.

I don't think TPAs should be stopped necessarily because obviously it's a stupid idea to turn extra money/investment away from the game however you can see why the gap between the top and bottom sides is widening when the value of even unknown players has gotten out of control.

The true figures being spent on rosters need to be published ASAP - won't happen though.

No. Still means sweet F all when we have never been in the game to start with. Gould is about his agenda as you have said. He had no issue pinching our players. He is only bitching now cos his club are under siege.

Cool.

TPA'S have grown exponentially in the past 3 years according to the NRL.

I want more people making noise about thus because I want to watch 8 competitive games each weekend throughout the season, not watch the same 4 or 5 clubs with the extra dollars play the preliminary finals every year. That's where we are heading on a regular basis.

Yeah, quite frankly no one at the knights has any pull with any agenda we may have. If someone like gus is pushing an agenda its going to make waves.

Listened to the 2nd half on the radio.

While I didn't get to see the game so I'm not sure how accurate these comments are but 2 things stood out..
- there's no pride in the jersey
- there's no easy games in the nrl but this is as close as Souths will get to one

I'm just so over it.

Again, Browny was brilliant in the presser.

Calm, collected and honest. Said Sione will likely slot back into 1sts next week. Seemed undecided on Snowden. Said Pauli, Paea and Stockwell will all be available.
Mentioned that it's a young side and now that some more senior players will be available he can get that mix of youth and seniority in the right proportion.

Was happy with Levi and both Saifitis

I'm not worried about this year at all, I honestly believe we'll bounce back and I'm confident we'll avoid the spoon (albeit narrowly)

1.Jaelen Feeney/Dane Gagai
2.Jake Mamo
3.Sione Mata'uatia
4.Pat Mata'utia/Dane Gagai
5.Aku Uate
6.Jarrod Mullen
7.Trent Hodkinson
8.Micky Paea
9.Tyler Randall
10.Kade Snowden
11.Jacob Saifiti
12.Tariq Sims
13.Jeremy Smith

14.Sam Mataora
15.Pauli Pauli
16.Daniel Saifiti/Danny Levi
17.Korbin Sims

With everyone available our side actually looks a lot more balanced.

BTW those bagging Mataora have no f**king idea. He was our best forward by a country mile and even the stats reflect it;

10 hitups 102 metres
35 tackles 0 missed

I'll also add that they were 10 hard hit-ups running into the burgess boys
