Jimmy gave away 3 penalties.
It was a rocks and diamonds performance for sure. But in the second half he saved our arse.

100%, there was no penalty for an age in that second half then the final 10 minutes, newcastle offered nothing and refs just started nitpicking to let them keep the ball.
Game management to give the 19,000 crowd an exciting finish. The set we had on their line near the end was a dead giveaway. Gus probably wouldn't do it but Ivan should maybe have a chat to Annesley armed with video of the Knights attacking our line (ping ping ping), then us attacking theirs (crickets).

Maloney worries the defense. He stretches the field and opens things up.
Cleary has no real money ball and I don't see an elite passing game. His running game is average and his kicking games is well just a bomb most the time.
He is young and may improve but seems over-hyped. Maybe I am missing something . I am sure he will come good.

Cleary put JFH over for first try.
Cleary put kick in for MWZ bat back to Winterstein try.

What the f**k dcale is Nathan being rated on where people think he's shit? Last week heput Blake over the line also... not his fault Blake spilled it. He easily outplayed Jimmy tonight.

Jimmy gave away 3 penalties. A few 7 tackle sets..created pretty much nothing and his only saving grace was out of this world defence which Cleary does every week really.

Nathan seems to be almost hated now by fans.

Edit
Cleary gets 2 try assists credited for this game. 1 Linebreak assist. 0 penalties or deadkicks.

Jimmy 0 try assists. 0 linebreak assists. 4 penalies give. 3 kicks gone dead.
His defence was good. In fact a few copybooks.

I agree with this pretty much. Maloney is just more noticeable than Nathan. The good shit Nathan does is tradesman like most of the time & isn’t highlight reel stuff. Jimmy is one extreme to the other, but most of it is noteworthy. I’m not sure how I feel about Jimmys game tonight. He did save us a few times, but contributed to the fact we needed saving. I was happy when I saw him with blood in his face. Most games where he has shit on his face we win. It’s more accurate than a barometer

You say that...

YetbCleary had 2 try assists. 1 from kick. 1 from pass.
Maloney had none. He kicked dead 3 times though. Gave away 4 penalties... when did he worry the defense exactly?

Exactly how i felt on jimmy. But at the end of the day he put us under more pressure than he saved us from IMO.

he's rated om a different scale because hes normally our worst defender.

I'll just wipe this egg of my face after saying, "the Knights will spank us". I couldn't see where the energy would come from. Anyhoo, a few comments:

  • RCG backed a up a sold defensive performances last week with an all round better game. He toped the run metres fat 148M for our forwards and still made 34 tackles at 94% efficiency.
  • JFH and Tamou were excellent again. With RCG they held the middle for us as Klemmer tried to bend the line. Well contained I thought.
  • Our attack is so clunky its painful to watch. Like that scene in a Clockwork Orange where the main character's eyelids are wired open so he can't close his eyes to the horror played on a screen in front of him. "Nooooo, please sir, noooo. Don't make me watch Panthers attack again, arrrgh". I am going to be optimistic and say its just ring rust and it'll come good......
  • I don't understand where this energy come from. Did they incorrectly taper before the Eels game and train too hard?
  • Winterstein looks a useful addition. Welcome on board sir.
Thank god the footy's back and we don't have a forum full of sex tape shite everyday.

Last week may have well been a trial match, it was a Dog's breakfast. We do have to get our attack, shitty brain dead penalties and ball security improved right out of sight or Melbourne will tear us a new one.

Really glad we got the win instead of doing a 2016 Roosters and letting a bad first round turn into a bad first two rounds and letting a bad first two rounds turn into a bad first three weeks and etc. Get the win and the pressure is off. We're now on the board.

Cut the errors and the bullshit and we have a forward pack that can dominate anyone.

Can't wait for Kiks to come back(hopefully next week), good times ahead I think.

Maloney was our worst and our best tonight. His defence at the end... what ghe actual f**k? That was other worldly shit. I honestly got no idea how to rate him after that. He put us under the pump many times. But he also f**king saved aus at the best possible time

He does that often. You take the bad if you get the good

Still had too many dumb penalties and too many errors but the line speed was good and the intensity was there.

JFH was a beast today. Late in the 1st half the real RCG came out. Need to see more of it

Is this a question or a statement?

Our back three had a bad Rnd1. No doubt.

But to say we have no firepower out wide, based on that is incorrect. In my opinion.

But you guys are free to hate on the boys all you like, I’d expect nothing less from the most fickle supporters I’ve ever come across.

As far back as 2017. Bad starts and comebacks were the order of the day. Still doing it so not just a bad week

Thinking we aren't a good team and hating are 2 totally different things.

Cleary's first try assist should have been credited to Maloney IMO. Maloney's kick fake pulled Ponga out of position - Cleary just had to catch and give the inside ball for JFH to wrong-foot Ponga.

Cleary's 2nd try assist could/should go to MWZ. Unless they give try assists for lucky bounces - even with the bounce it took something special from MWZ to keep it in play.

Maloney's kicking game was poo. Far more impressed with his defence today, particularly when he forced the errors from Watson and Lee.

Best on-field today was JFH for me today. RCG good, but JFH did it for 80 minutes. Special mention to Winterstein.

JFH's form should see him stay edge backrower. Yeo better suited to lock anyway

Blake was cramping bad at the end. General match fitness alone should see it improve.

Maloney/Edwards tried a few things lets hope that keeps going to help break down the good teams

This was not knocking Nathan at all.. I defend him 100% when post! he is still sooo young, which I think the bulk of us forget. In many parts of today's game he didn't get hands on the ball and Jimmy did a lot of the playmaking, which made me suspect the injury. Can't wait to see what he is doing for us in 3-4 years time (along with this year).

No one is knocking Cleary. He's coming back from injury and will take at least a few weeks to get some timing.

More just pointing out that stats can't be taken at face value to form the basis for an argument (unless you're playing SuperCoach).
