Round 2 vs The Dragons

We can argue over occasional mistakes/miracles made by players but the thing that impressed over the first two rounds is that everyone in a Penrith jersey was up to first grade standard.
A problem going forward will be the lack of lower grade games. I was looking forward to seeing Blore, Lineu, Burton, push for first grade selection via Canterbury Cup. Ivan would probably want to go the conservative route by selecting established players like Capewell, Hethrington, May, Edwards as a result of injury’s, loss of former, etc.

I’d assume they’re doing this, but they need to play intra squad games in the absence of no lower grade games. Full on contact games. You’d exclude the FG guys, and play the other guys in mixed teams to spread out the talent. Ie. have Canterbury cup guys playing with U20’s.

Yeah you gotta get those guys doing something, mix up the squads and get them belt each other. Hard thing is they are probably trying to keep the first graders isolated which means keeping 20 + guys isolated.

Yeah he has to sort it out but he hits and runs hard. He was taking it to Frizzel last night in defence and really getting in his face, I like a forward who takes that physical battle really personally. His error came at a crucial time for us after conceding a try or two so it stands out and his penalty was a 4th or 5th tackle penalty which again stands out as a very dumb error.

JFH was the same about 20 odd games in he will come good in a season or 2. When Leinu and Capewell get fit we can rotate those guys on the bench around. Gives them a chance to be eased into FG

He looks gifted. Like Waqu Blake with 15% more speed and power. Same build. Blake's defense however is first class.
Crighton and Kikau are mouth watering. Yeo however is proving a handfull

Blake wishes he had Crichton’s skills. Blake is very limited Crichton isn’t

Long term he'll be very good and a permanent in the team, might have to just accept the odd error based on how much energy he brings. After my re-watch of the Roosters game I'm thinking the same of Hetherington.

When both teams brought the bench on we fell flat and needed that energy from Hetherington in the middle I thought.

Leota does good work off the bench but isn't the rabid dog Hetherington is so they make a good bench pair.

Leinu is a weapon. Capewell should allow JFH to prop. Yeo to lock and Tetevano off the bench. Strong rotation there

Yeah that balance of the rotation is all we a really missing. Edwards back get Crichton in the backline and maybe Burton on the bench. Much stronger.

Surely we just start Crichton in the 1 next week. Pretty much wasting a bench spot and interchanges. Ivan should just put Jed on the bench until Capewell is fit if he's worried about cover for the backs. Although Burns can also play centre if someone gets hurt

You could play anyone for that 10 odd minute stint

First 15 secs he looks for the ball, scores a try, waqa would be sitting on the edge, waiting for a pass, there is a massive difference

spot on. Also not playing in his normal position unlike Blake that had to be left centre to be good

I have read this website for years to get my panther fix but joined last year to defend Nathan Cleary who I felt was being unfairly targerted at times,I have seen his development since day dot n always felt/knew he is a good one(on n off the field)..
Can't wait for the day when he says"this is for the people of penrith" till then I hope he goes from strength to strength..

Some good powerful players. Just keep in mind defense is a big part of game. Some of these players are a bit loose and sloppy in the department.

The Cleary doubters have been very quiet, great to see Nathan playing well. I know footy is far from the most important thing going on atm but it would be such a shame for the club and his development if the comp is suspended.

That’s a good point about quarantining them from the rest of the squad. This is such a difficult situation.

He’s played well so far in these two games, no doubt about it. One thing I’ve been looking for is improvement in creativity, seen some nice kicks from him, but he still looks awkward with his passing. I just think that’s the way it’s going to be, his attributes lie elsewhere.
