If the draw is not going to be ready then don't announce the reveal until all the stake holders have signed off on it. Makes the organisation look like amateurs!

The Footy Show just advertised the Thursday and Friday Night games for Rnds 23-26.

All I can remember was the Tigers v Bulldogs on a Thursday at ANZ and the Round 26 Souths v Roosters at the SFS is also on a Thursday.

One issue was on for 1st August.

Roosters v St George Illas at the SFS was scheduled to play on the Friday Night, however the Swans v Bombers are on at the SCG at 7:50pm. Can you imagine the traffic kaos Moore Park would be if that was to occur. Theyd get about 55-60000 in total in a peak hour Friday Night.

I think Channel 9 really wants this game but the NRL doesn't want to compete with the Swans on this night.

Channel 9 would love this.

People who don't want to battle the traffic will likely take the option to stay at home and watch the match on TV.

Weak excuse, as attendance figures demonstrate since the fixed schedule was introduced. It's typical twitter, just whinging for whinging's sake, by the time it's released these same 'stakeholders' will still have plenty of time to plan not to go to games.

And to do that you had to know the draw at 11am today? A few days is not going to make or break anyone.

The NRL could have announced it next week and people would have been none the wiser it was late, it's hysteria. They only found out it would be released today at 11am because they announced it yesterday. No one who wants to get to a game is going to miss out because of it, games aren't for a month yet ffs, a few days at most won't make a difference.

Utter rubbish. People are entitled to be upset if they choose to be. As others have said, flights and hotel prices change regularly the closer a date gets. Also, when events are scheduled in certain locations and these businesses get wind of it, they jack up the prices - the sooner a fan can get onto it the greater their chance of avoiding it.

It's basic stuff and people are entitled to complain about it. Saying it's whingeing for whingeing's sake is the same backward attitude that holds our game back. Why not encourage an attendance culture by being forward, proactive and professional when it comes to fixturing? FFS other codes set release dates and stick to them...

At what point was SYD v STG ever scheduled for Friday night? The release they had to hold back earlier today featured it on Saturday night - it wasn't part of the issue. The key issues were between Sun/Mon R23 and Thu/Fri R24, both Manly and Tigers had four day turnarounds which will reportedly be rectified with the release tomorrow.

In the future they can get rid of this short turnaround rubbish by putting matches only on Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Oh bullshit, they hold it back less than 24hrs, and you carry on as if they won't release it until a week out from the game. Calling people out for generating mass hysteria over something so trivial is not the display of a backward attitude at all, nor does it 'hold the game back'. It's about being a rational mature adult and not making out that Christmas has been cancelled because a draw is released a day later than promised. If anything, the hysteria over something completely innocent and trivial mirrors the substance of a telegraph backpage, which is more warranted with the tag of 'holding the game back'.

But they were wiser as the NRL made a big thing of pre-announcing it you idiot.

I am going to assume you live in Brisbane as you clearly have no idea what its like to support a team in another city. I have had to arrange travel for games interstate and every day does count.

If it had not been announced by the NRL then people would be upset, but the DID. Get it through your clearly thick skull.

This is amateur hour, initially scheduling 2 teams for 4 day turnarounds is scandalous not an oversight.

According to Gus our last 6 goes.

Home games: Cowboys, Storm Monday night. Warriors Sunday night.

Away games: Bulldogs Friday night. Dragons, Manly Sunday 3pm.

Our home game timeslots have been poor. 4 Monday nights. 0 Sunday or Sat night games.

I'm not carrying on like anything, nor is anyone else. People are making the observation it's unprofessional, amateur hour, and there are stakeholders who are frustrated (fans are among them) because they have already been waiting quite a while to plan away trips, book in leave, flights, accommodation etc.

As for "generating mass hysteria" - looks like it's the SMH back page that's gone the way of well, everyone except you:

Suggesting people aren't "mature adults" because they dare have an opinion on the way the NRL has run things in this particular instance is borderline petty. People are entitled to an opinion, let them have it. Don't like it, close the window, eh?

Seeing as part of this issue is the broadcaster which a certain SMH writer works for you would think they'd go a bit easy

Individual writers don't always write the headline for the article. It is usually the Editors and sub-editors who do that.

The article itself though does make clear what the problems are in some detail, and it is not all Channel 9's fault -

NRL draw's release quickly turns farcical

The NRL's attempt to turn the release of the draw for the final six rounds into an event ended in embarrassment after the announcement was deferred due to a wrangle between the game's broadcasters over matches involving Wests Tigers and Manly.

Despite the official Twitter accounts of the NRL and clubs promoting the unveiling of the remaining schedule of matches at 11am, the draw still had not been finalised on Thursday night. The reason for the delay centres around the Tigers and Sea Eagles being given just four-day turnarounds between their round 23 and 24 matches; NRL policy states that all teams must have a minimum five-day break after each game.

A draft copy of the draw sent to clubs had Manly scheduled to play Gold Coast on Sunday, August 17, and Parramatta on Thursday, August 21. Wests Tigers were drawn to play Sydney Roosters on Monday, August 18, and Canterbury on Friday, August 22. After being made aware of the issue by Tigers and Sea Eagles officials, the NRL advised clubs at about 10.45am that the release of the draw would be delayed and it was eventually deferred until Friday.

An NRL spokesman said the announcement had been delayed to ensure a five-day turnaround between games to protect players in the game.

''The schedule for the final six rounds of the Telstra Premiership has been finalised and will be released tomorrow,'' a statement said on Thursday night. ''This has now been satisfied and the schedule for rounds 21 to 26 will be released tomorrow.''

At the heart of the problem is the way the broadcasters choose the matches, Channel Nine getting the first, second and fourth picks and Fox Sports having the third, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. Under the previous television agreement, the NRL would devise a draw based on the requests of clubs but leave just the kick-off times to be determined by the broadcasters. The current $1 billion deal gives Nine and Fox Sports almost total say.

Nine initially wanted the round-23 match between Parramatta and Canterbury at ANZ Stadium to be played on Thursday, August 14, but Eels officials complained that their team would have only three days to prepare as they were playing in Darwin the previous Saturday and then hosting an NRL fan day before returning to Sydney.

As a result, the Eels-Bulldogs match will now be played on Friday, August 15, after Nine agreed to swap it with the South Sydney-Brisbane game.

However, Fox Sports then chose the Tigers-Roosters game, which is also scheduled to be played at ANZ Stadium but cannot be played there on Saturday, August 16, due to the Bledisloe Cup rugby union Test between Australia and New Zealand. As a result, Fox Sports opted for the Tigers-Roosters game to be played on the Monday night, which caused a knock-on effect for the following weekend's matches as Nine had chosen Tigers-Bulldogs as their Friday night match.

Fairfax Media understands the Gold Coast-Manly match had initially been scheduled for Saturday, August 16, but was chosen as Nine's Sunday game after Fox Sports used their third pick to claim the Tigers-Roosters clash.

It is believed Tigers officials won't announce a venue for the match against the Roosters after Fox Sports decided to schedule it on the Saturday and they will seek compensation after forgoing the financial incentives for playing at ANZ Stadium. The Tigers have an agreement to play four games a year at Campbelltown and Leichhardt.

''First and foremost the four-day turnaround is just not fair and reasonable so I have no doubt it is causing some grief but then you add the complexity of venue availability and other sporting schedules, and I am sure they are facing some very difficult decisions,'' Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer said. ''From our point of view, we are more than happy to be advised by the game about what needs to be done as long as the club and our stakeholders are not disadvantaged.''

You're making a concerted effort to be obstinate, learn to read or try making an effort to understand what was typed.

He's saying a couple of days could add a few hundred dollars to a trip he wants to organise. I can understand his concerns. It's a simple enough concept for someone to understand, then again..............

His concerns are over dramatic, 24hrs will have very little impact.

Well the flight prices have risen considerably from Wellington to Auckland for the weekend of 23 August. I could have booked flights yesterday for Warriors vs Roosters had I known time & date. The complete lack of knowledge, organisation & common sense from the NRL costs fans money!

NRL's website is reporting they will announce the draw on their site at mid-day today. Though after yesterday's efforts I can understand if people have a healthy dose of scepticism as to whether that will eventuate.
